Chapter 673 Twin Rebirth: Nan Zhiyun's Resolute Determination

Looking at the little girl beneath him, whose tears had already dried, Yu Jingchen finally regained his senses. He had hastily bandaged Nan Zhiyun's hand wound, but the tears had already seeped through during their earlier exchange.

This was the first time, and Yu Jingchen didn't continue. He reached out and gently stroked Nan Zhiyun's eyes: "Nan Zhiyun, my patience is limited... Why won't you listen?" Nan Zhiyun remained silent; he no longer had the strength or the will to speak.

Seeing Nan Zhiyun's current state, Yu Jingchen clenched his fist. The incense in the room had all burned out. Could burned incense reignite? The incense met a spark, burning continuously until finally, the incense burned out completely, and the fire went out...

Yu Jingchen pulled the blanket over her and said, "I'll have the imperial physician come in and take a look." After saying this, Yu Jingchen called out, "Summon the imperial physician!"

Fortunately, Xinglai had been waiting outside. Upon hearing this, Yu Jingchen quickly led the imperial physician inside. The mess and smell inside the room indicated what had just happened. Xinglai and the imperial physician lowered their heads, not daring to say anything. Yu Jingchen pulled down the bed curtains, covering the scene inside.

The imperial physician knelt beside the bed. Nan Zhiyun lay on the bed, completely unresponsive. Yu Jingchen held her hand and asked the physician to take her pulse: "She has cuts on her hands. Can you tell if these injuries are serious?"

After examining her pulse, the imperial physician looked at the injuries on her hands and said, "Your Majesty, the injuries on Consort Shu's hands are nothing serious. She just needs to apply the medicine on time. As for her health... Your Majesty, Consort Shu needs to take good care of herself. She should not overexert herself or worry too much."

"Go and get the medicine," Yu Jingchen said. The imperial physician took out the wound medicine first, and then went to get the medicine to recuperate.

Yu Jingchen ordered someone to bring a first-aid kit, and then dismissed everyone: "I'll apply the medicine for you." He sat down next to Nan Zhiyun. Nan Zhiyun hadn't reacted at all from the beginning, letting Yu Jingchen do as he pleased, just like a puppet on a string.

Yu Jingchen looked at the scratches on Nan Zhiyun's hands. They weren't particularly deep, but they looked quite horrifying. Nan Zhiyun was naturally afraid of pain, and Yu Jingchen couldn't imagine under what circumstances she would be so cruel to herself. But what followed was anger; these scars fueled the fire in his heart, making him unable to control himself.

After treating Nan Zhiyun's hand injuries, he put down the ointment. Given what had just happened, she still bore many marks on her body, and Yu Jingchen prepared to apply medicine. The purplish-blue marks on her body were his so-called punishment; in fact, if one looked closely, they would notice that Yu Jingchen's hands were trembling as he applied the medicine to Nan Zhiyun.

He regretted what he had just done, and his current behavior was merely a facade because he didn't want Nan Zhiyun to find out. Since he had already spoken, he couldn't simply let it go. What good was his regret? The deed was done; was there any room for reversal?

He didn't know what had gotten into him just now; he completely lost control and just wanted to vent. Perhaps it was Nan Zhiyun's behavior that had angered him.

Looking at the shocking injuries on Nan Zhiyun's body, Yu Jingchen felt a pang of regret, but... it was all in vain.

Nan Zhiyun remained silent throughout. Yu Jingchen wondered if it was just his imagination, but seeing Nan Zhiyun like this, he suddenly felt a sense of panic.

"Why aren't you saying anything? Weren't you just making a fuss?" Yu Jingchen asked, clearly also feeling uneasy. Unfortunately, Nan Zhiyun showed no intention of answering.

Yu Jingchen looked at her. Nan Zhiyun in this state... really looked like a doll that had been patched up. This realization made Yu Jingchen feel as if she could disappear completely at any moment.

Yu Jingchen remained silent, simply applying the medicine to Nan Zhiyun. After finishing the first area, there were other places to treat. When Yu Jingchen reached out, Nan Zhiyun trembled.

She finally reacted, but it was out of fear. Yu Jingchen noticed, glanced at her, and stopped what he was doing.

“Afraid? It’s just applying medicine, what’s there to be afraid of? You weren’t afraid when you cut yourself and hurt yourself just now, were you?” Yu Jingchen said, and then continued with the next step.

The moment she was touched, Nan Zhiyun's body trembled uncontrollably. She was trying her best to hold on, but Yu Jingchen could feel the deep fear in her heart through her expression and movements.

"That's all for applying the medicine, I won't do anything else." Yu Jingchen was silent for a few moments before finally speaking. Compared to before, his tone was much better now, much softer.

Although he was angry just now, he didn't really go overboard and punished her; he kept his strength under control. As for the injury, it wasn't that serious.

However, Nan Zhiyun's fear of such things wasn't entirely about the pain; she was afraid of the act itself. So even such a small movement would startle her.

Yu Jingchen wanted to comfort her, apologize, and reassure her not to be afraid. But… remembering what had just happened, Yu Jingchen ultimately held back. He himself couldn't tell why he wasn't doing that now—was it out of fear or anger?

Yu Jingchen quickly applied the medicine to prevent Nan Zhiyun from becoming frightened. After finishing, he tidied Nan Zhiyun up a bit and pulled the blanket over her again.

"I'll have someone replace these things on you, and I won't leave any sharp objects behind anymore. If you really need anything, just let me know." Yu Jingchen dared not put any more sharp objects like hairpins on Nan Zhiyun.
