How come you're full after barely eating anything?
"You've only eaten so little? You're already full?" Yu Jingchen asked, then picked out another piece of fish and put it into Nan Zhiyun's bowl.
"Eat a little more, it's too little," Yu Jingchen said. It wasn't that he wanted to force Nan Zhiyun to eat, but rather that Nan Zhiyun had only taken a few bites.
Nan Zhiyun naturally dared not refuse repeatedly, so after glancing at it twice, she slowly ate it. The fish was cooked very tenderly, with a crispy outer skin, but the meat inside had absorbed a lot of the broth, so the taste was quite good.
"If you like anything, just have someone order it and have it made," Yu Jingchen said after seeing that Nan Zhiyun really didn't want to eat any of the dishes on the table.
"I don't have anything I particularly like, so there's no need for the imperial kitchen to trouble themselves," Nan Zhiyun replied.
"Nothing you like? I remember you used to like eating fish, didn't you?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
Nan Zhiyun paused slightly, her expression unreadable. She looked at Yu Jingchen and asked, "When did Your Majesty realize that I enjoy eating fish?"
“I’ve noticed you’ve been picking up a lot of fish when we’ve eaten together before,” Yu Jingchen replied.
"The 'before' Your Majesty mentioned seems to refer to the time before Your Majesty became emperor..." Nan Zhiyun realized she had misspoke as she said this.
"Your Majesty, please forgive me!" Nan Zhiyun lowered her head.
"It's alright, just keep talking. Whatever you have to say." Yu Jingchen's expression remained unchanged.
"Your Majesty...aren't you angry? I just spoke carelessly, I didn't mean anything by it. I..." Nan Zhiyun was still a little uneasy.
Because it was something Yu Jingchen didn't want to bring up, especially when he brought it up himself. Every time he mentioned their past, Yu Jingchen would get angry.
"I know, no need to explain," Yu Jingchen said with a hint of helplessness.
Nan Zhiyun remained silent, but perhaps because she was thinking about the past, tears welled up in her eyes again, though they did not fall.
Yu Jingchen put down his chopsticks and bowl, then picked up a handkerchief from the side and wiped his hands before looking at Nan Zhiyun.
"Nan Zhiyun, look up," Yu Jingchen said softly.
Upon hearing this, Nan Zhiyun slowly raised her head.
In a daze, Nan Zhiyun seemed to hear Yu Jingchen sigh.
"Are you never going to stop crying? Why are you always crying?" Yu Jingchen took the handkerchief from Nan Zhiyun and stuffed it into her hand: "Wipe it yourself. I'm too lazy to wipe it for you now."
Tears welled up in Nan Zhiyun's eyes and fell. She actually listened to Yu Jingchen's words and began to wipe away her tears herself.
“I’ve never seen you like this before. Why do I see you crying every time I come these past few days? Are your eyes filled with a whole river? No matter how much you cry, the tears just won’t stop,” Yu Jingchen said.
However, what he said wasn't entirely untrue. Even when Yu Jingchen treated Nan Zhiyun that way before, he hadn't seen her cry this often. At most, she would feel wronged in the beginning, but later she would always hold back her tears. But recently, it seems she's gone back to how she was at the beginning.
But Yu Jingchen couldn't do anything about it, so he could only say, "Stop crying, it won't do you any good if you cry too much."
Nan Zhiyun didn't want to, but she seems to have become much more pretentious lately.
