Chapter 78 Overcoming

The two lay on the bed, with Nan Zhiyun completely encircled in Yu Jingchen's arms. The room was so quiet that they could even hear each other's breathing. This was a feeling Nan Zhiyun had never experienced before.

Even so, it couldn't overcome Nan Zhiyun's fear of the surrounding darkness. Her hands began to clutch Yu Jingchen's clothes, but perhaps because she was still a little hesitant, she only dared to tug at them slightly.

"It's alright," Yu Jingchen said, putting one arm around Nan Zhiyun and taking her hand in his. He then noticed that Nan Zhiyun's palms were sweating.

"Don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen didn't know why Nan Zhiyun was afraid of the dark, nor did he know how to comfort her.

Perhaps as she gradually got used to Yu Jingchen's embrace, Nan Zhiyun became bolder and even took the initiative to snuggle closer to him.

Yu Jingchen naturally embraced her, and Nan Zhiyun's body trembled slightly with fear. However, it was also possible that she was consciously controlling herself because Yu Jingchen was there.

Upon sensing this, Yu Jingchen gently patted Nan Zhiyun's back with the hand that was around her, trying to ease her fear.

"There's nothing to be afraid of, don't be so nervous," Yu Jingchen reassured him.

This method seemed to be effective, so Nan Zhiyun gradually relaxed. Her tightly closed eyes slowly opened, though her hands remained firmly in place.

Yu Jingchen's embrace was warm, and there was a strange sense of security in it. Perhaps it was just psychological, but Nan Zhiyun's fear slowly disappeared. However, it was impossible for her to be completely free of fear.

"Still afraid?" Yu Jingchen asked.

"Hmm..." Nan Zhiyun's voice was very soft, and if you listened carefully, you could hear the tremor in her voice.

"Why are you so scared?" Yu Jingchen asked him.

“I was afraid of the dark when I was little, very afraid,” Nan Zhiyun replied to Yu Jingchen.

"No reason?" Yu Jingchen asked.

Nan Zhiyun did not answer this time.

"Unwilling to answer?" Yu Jingchen's tone was calm, and he didn't seem angry that Nan Zhiyun was unwilling to answer.

"Your Majesty, please forgive me," Nan Zhiyun said, which meant she was unwilling to talk about it.

"Alright, I won't force you. Go to sleep." Yu Jingchen didn't pressure Nan Zhiyun to say it.

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun said, nestled in Yu Jingchen's arms, her voice muffled.

Yu Jingchen didn't say anything more, but he didn't let go of Nan Zhiyun's hand. She was quite tired today, and without the fear from before, Nan Zhiyun fell asleep quickly.

Yu Jingchen gradually became sleepy, but in the middle of the night, he was woken up by Nan Zhiyun.

Nan Zhiyun's breathing was somewhat disordered, and she was clutching her abdomen; something was wrong.

"Nan Zhiyun?" Yu Jingchen called her name.

But Nan Zhiyun did not answer.

"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen asked, then slightly propped himself up.

"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun's voice trembled as she spoke.

"What's wrong? Does your stomach hurt?" Yu Jingchen looked at Nan Zhiyun, who was curled up in a ball, seemingly in some pain.

"Someone, light the lamps!" Yu Jingchen shouted to the outside, and immediately someone came in.

After the lights were turned on, Yu Jingchen could clearly see the cold sweat on Nan Zhiyun's forehead, which had even soaked her hair. She was also clutching her abdomen, looking like she was in great pain.
