Upon hearing Yu Jingchen's words, Nan Zhiyun's heart skipped a beat, and she began to feel nervous.
"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun wanted to explain.
"Just answer, there's no need to say anything else," Yu Jingchen said calmly.
“Yes…” After Nan Zhiyun finished speaking, she snuggled closer to Yu Jingchen and hugged him even tighter.
"Your Majesty, could you please not be angry?" Nan Zhiyun pleaded humbly.
"Am I questioning you?" Yu Jingchen did not push Nan Zhiyun away.
"I'm sorry," Nan Zhiyun apologized, her tone tinged with unease.
Yu Jingchen felt a strange sensation upon hearing Nan Zhiyun's words, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He just felt that Nan Zhiyun shouldn't be like this.
"You can just say it next time," Yu Jingchen suppressed his chaotic feelings.
"I'm afraid Your Majesty won't like it," Nan Zhiyun replied.
“If you’re going to use these methods to let me know every time, you might as well just tell me directly,” Yu Jingchen said, his tone unchanged.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun replied.
"Then... was His Majesty angry this time?" Nan Zhiyun asked cautiously.
Before Yu Jingchen could answer, Nan Zhiyun continued, "This concubine did not do it on purpose, nor did she intend to deceive or take advantage of Your Majesty."
"If I were to blame you, do you think you could still stay here like this?" Yu Jingchen added after saying that, "But I also told you, this is a one-time exception."
“Yes…” Nan Zhiyun’s mood eased slightly.
"Okay, go to sleep," Yu Jingchen interrupted the conversation.
The room suddenly fell silent. Nan Zhiyun had been tense the whole time, so she finally managed to fall asleep late into the night.
When Nan Zhiyun woke up the next day, Yu Jingchen had already left again. Moreover, Qianxia came to tell her that Yu Jingchen had dealt with the people in the Imperial Household Department and then sent over some new charcoal.
Nan Zhiyun listened without speaking, only gently pursing her lips. The current Yu Jingchen filled her with some joy, but even more so with unease and fear. She didn't know if this was just a temporary illusion, and what if things reverted to their original state one day? What if she couldn't accept that?
“Qianxia, I’m really worried,” Nan Zhiyun said.
"Do you think this will continue indefinitely?" Nan Zhiyun asked.
"Could it be because the Empress Dowager is about to return that His Majesty is acting this way?" Perhaps because she had experienced so much in the past, Nan Zhiyun dared not believe it anymore.
“How could you think that way, Consort? His Majesty certainly doesn’t need to,” Qianxia replied.
“But he suddenly became different from before, why is that?” Nan Zhiyun asked.
"Why do you think so much, Jieyu? It's good as it is now. No matter what the reason, the ending is good in the end," Qianxia comforted her.
"But I'm afraid all of this is just a pipe dream, and it will all disappear in a couple of days. Qianxia, if that's the case, I might not be able to bear it," Nan Zhiyun said softly.
"Consort Qianxia" squatted down next to Nan Zhiyun: "Everything is slowly getting better. This servant knows that Consort has suffered too much in the past, but His Majesty's attitude towards Consort is really different now than before."
“No matter what happens in the future, we don’t need to think about those things now. This is something even Jieyu didn’t expect, so we should enjoy the present moment,” Qianxia said.
She knew that Nan Zhiyun was afraid of the pain, so she dared not do it again.
