Chapter 159 Storybook

Seeing that Nan Zhiyun seemed to like him quite a bit, Yu Jingchen's anxiety gradually subsided. He was just worried that Nan Zhiyun wouldn't eat again.

"Is it alright?" Yu Jingchen asked.

Nan Zhiyun nodded. This kind of porridge felt warm and comforting after being drunk.

"Want some more?" Yu Jingchen's mood suddenly improved when he saw that Nan Zhiyun liked it.

After hesitating for a moment, Nan Zhiyun nodded: "Is that okay?"

"Yes, of course." Yu Jingchen couldn't quite express his feelings upon hearing this, but suddenly felt a pang of pity. He had suppressed everything before admitting it, but now that he had, everything burst forth.

"Come here," Yu Jingchen took the small bowl from Nan Zhiyun's hand and filled it for her.

"If you like it, I'll have the imperial kitchen prepare it for you every day from now on," Yu Jingchen said, while serving food to Nan Zhiyun.

Xinglai: "..." Even if you like it, you'll get tired of eating it every day, right?

Nan Zhiyun simply ate her food without answering.

Nan Zhiyun had a small appetite; after eating those two bowls of porridge, she couldn't eat anything else. She could only watch as Yu Jingchen piled food onto her plate…

Nan Zhiyun remained silent for a moment, then picked up her chopsticks and slowly began to eat. But…

"If you can't eat it, then don't eat it. Do you want to throw up like before?" Yu Jingchen took the food from in front of Nan Zhiyun.

"Didn't I tell you this last time? Why don't you listen?" Although Yu Jingchen said this, there was not much blame in his tone.

“But you still haven’t eaten enough,” Yu Jingchen said, starting to eat directly from Nan Zhiyun’s bowl. Nan Zhiyun was somewhat shocked.

"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun called to him.

"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen asked.

“It’s dirty,” Nan Zhiyun replied.

"It hasn't been touched yet, how can it be dirty?" Yu Jingchen didn't care. Nan Zhiyun wanted to say something, but in the end she chose to remain silent.

After breakfast... well, after lunch, Yu Jingchen showed no sign of leaving. Nan Zhiyun, seeing this, naturally didn't dare say anything, and could only sit quietly, neither making a fuss nor causing a scene.

Yu Jingchen was handling memorials nearby, but he had been keeping an eye on Nan Zhiyun. Seeing her sitting there so obediently, Yu Jingchen felt a pang of unease. He felt that Nan Zhiyun had changed... more silent, more quiet, more well-behaved.

"You don't have to sit there all the time. Do whatever you want, be more relaxed," Yu Jingchen reminded him.

"I'm fine," Nan Zhiyun replied. Yu Jingchen looked at Nan Zhiyun for a few seconds, then stood up and walked to her side.

Nan Zhiyun nervously clenched her hands, which Yu Jingchen noticed.

"Don't you find it boring to just sit here like this?" Yu Jingchen asked her.

“I used to be like this too,” Nan Zhiyun said. Used to… those words pierced Yu Jingchen’s heart. Had she often been like this before?

"Then find something to do to pass the time. Is there anything you like?" Yu Jingchen asked, then gently took Nan Zhiyun's tightly clenched hand.

Nan Zhiyun panicked and tried to dodge, but Yu Jingchen's strength was too great and Nan Zhiyun couldn't dodge.

"What are you hiding in your hand? Why are you holding it so tightly?" Yu Jingchen asked, with a hint of teasing. He was just trying to keep Nan Zhiyun from being too nervous, so he said it on purpose.

“No…” Nan Zhiyun said uneasily.

"Okay, no, come on, get up." Yu Jingchen knew she was scared, so he didn't tease her too much and just helped her up.

Nan Zhiyun didn't know what Yu Jingchen wanted to do, but she still stood up following his pull. Whether intentionally or not, Yu Jingchen suddenly pulled her, so Nan Zhiyun lost her balance and bumped into his arms.

"See? Who told you to eat only such a small amount? Now you can't even stand up straight," Yu Jingchen said.

"Your Majesty's strength is too great, and I lost my footing. Please forgive me, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun replied.

"From what you're saying, do you think this is still my fault? Even so, it's because you're not eating, so you don't even have the strength to stand up. You're so thin, you'd fall over with just a gentle pull." Yu Jingchen raised an eyebrow.

Nan Zhiyun didn't want to continue the argument, so she didn't say anything more.

Xinglai: "..." Rolling his eyes to the sky.

"Come here," Yu Jingchen said, leading the person to the side where he was reviewing memorials, and then pulling the person to sit down.

Nan Zhiyun was somewhat bewildered; she didn't know what Yu Jingchen wanted to do.

"I noticed you enjoyed reading storybooks before, so I had someone find some for you. You can read them if you're bored," Yu Jingchen said, glancing at Xinglai. Xinglai immediately understood and turned to fetch the storybooks.

Fortunately, he placed all the storybooks he had found in front of Nan Zhiyun and added, "Please take a look and see if you like them. His Majesty saw that there were many storybooks in your room and knew that you liked to read them, so he asked me to find them all."

Nan Zhiyun was somewhat shocked; she hadn't expected, nor could she have imagined, that Yu Jingchen would do such a thing. Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen, who didn't speak, but simply picked up a book and handed it to her.

"See if you like them. If you do, we can have someone look for them later," Yu Jingchen said.

Nan Zhiyun looked at the book in her hand, still feeling like it was all a dream.

"Take a look yourself first," Yu Jingchen casually patted Nan Zhiyun's head before continuing to process the memorials.

Nan Zhiyun looked at the huge stack of books on the table. When would she ever finish reading them? But she really liked these books, so even though she was a little nervous, she continued to sit next to Yu Jingchen and read.

As a result, Nan Zhiyun gradually became engrossed in the story. Yu Jingchen had been watching Nan Zhiyun closely, and seeing that she seemed truly absorbed, he breathed a sigh of relief. He had been worried nonetheless; he feared that Nan Zhiyun wouldn't enjoy the book.

Seeing how focused Nan Zhiyun was on the document, he felt relieved, and a handsome smile even appeared on his lips. Yu Jingchen then turned his attention to the memorial.

But the good times didn't last long. Soon after, Yu Jingchen heard soft sobbing coming from beside him. He looked over and, sure enough, saw Nan Zhiyun crying.

"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen's heart tightened.

Nan Zhiyun shook her head and wiped away her tears somewhat awkwardly.

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I didn't mean it." Nan Zhiyun's tone was somewhat unnatural.

Yu Jingchen didn't know what was wrong with Nan Zhiyun either, and thought that she was feeling unwell again.
