Chapter 664 The Twin Rebirth: The Child Is Gone

Upon hearing this, the Empress Dowager looked at the palace maid in disbelief, her steps faltering, and An Xin helped her up.

"Quickly summon the imperial physician! Consort Shu has hanged herself!" The palace maids shouted repeatedly, and Zichen Palace was thrown into chaos, with even the guards terrified.

"Your Majesty, are you alright?" An Xin asked, looking at the Empress Dowager with concern.

"Let me in!" The Empress Dowager finally lost her temper and flew into a rage. The guards exchanged glances, some no longer daring to stop her.

"Get out of the way!" The Empress Dowager simply took action, pushing the guards aside; they did not continue to block her. An Xin helped the Empress Dowager into the room, and upon entering, they saw Nan Zhiyun lying on the bed, her lips pale.

The Empress Dowager was so frightened she couldn't speak. Trembling, she went towards her. Nan Zhiyun had just said she wanted to rest, so she had the maids lower the curtain. Because of Yu Jingchen's orders, none of them dared to leave Nan Zhiyun's side, so even so, they didn't leave and all stayed by her side.

Unexpectedly, Nan Zhiyun actually took the medicine... If it weren't for the palace maid's skill in detecting that Nan Zhiyun's aura was not right, perhaps... The palace maid was startled when she discovered this and ran outside without delay to find the imperial physician.

"Yun'er..." The Empress Dowager's hands were trembling. But Nan Zhiyun remained expressionless, showing no reaction whatsoever.

Yu Jingchen heard the news of Nan Zhiyun's suicide by poison before the morning court session had even ended. Upon hearing this, he disregarded the morning court and rushed to Zichen Palace. Fortunately, he followed along, but couldn't keep up at all.

No one could imagine what Yu Jingchen was feeling along the way. When he arrived at Zichen Palace, the imperial physician also came, and the Empress Dowager was beside him, her face looking extremely pale.

Looking at the fragile Nan Zhiyun on the bed, who seemed as if a gust of wind could blow her away, Yu Jingchen felt an uncontrollable pain in his heart.

"What happened?" Yu Jingchen asked the servant in a hoarse voice.

"Your Majesty, spare us! We didn't even notice that Consort Shu obtained the medicine from somewhere. Her Highness..." The palace maids were also terrified, after all, they knew Consort Shu's current status.

“Fortunately…” Yu Jingchen’s expression was unreadable.

"This servant is here." Fortunately, I know that Your Majesty is now...

"Take them away. Kill all those who served Consort Shu today." Yu Jingchen's voice was as light as if it could be blown away by a gust of wind, but it weighed a ton.

"...Yes." Xinglai couldn't believe the order, but dared not ask any more questions. The Empress Dowager watched from the side, offering no words of advice.

"How is Consort Shu?" Yu Jingchen asked the imperial physician. The imperial physician had also heard what the other physician had just said and was now trembling with fear.

"Your Majesty, the medicine Consort Shu took wasn't a lethal poison, and she's out of danger now. However… Your Majesty, please spare her life, the child in Consort Shu's womb… the child couldn't be saved," the imperial physician said. Upon hearing this, Yu Jingchen closed his eyes. Indeed, this child was not meant to be.

"Go find out where she got her medicine, then everyone leave," Yu Jingchen said. He was clearly in a bad mood, but no one dared to say anything more. Even though Xing Lai was worried, she could only leave.

The Empress Dowager and An Xin were the only ones left in the room. Yu Jingchen didn't speak, and after a moment of silence, the Empress Dowager walked up to Yu Jingchen.

Yu Jingchen looked at her, and the Empress Dowager's eyes were complicated: "Yun'er... hurt you?" the Empress Dowager asked.

"Yun'er is a little angry, I will coax her," Yu Jingchen replied. The Empress Dowager opened her mouth but didn't say anything. After a while, she spoke up: "Yun'er's current behavior... she wouldn't do it if she hadn't reached a point of despair. You... Your Majesty, don't force her, okay? Also... she's probably frightened, don't take your anger out on her anymore." In the end, the Empress Dowager was still a little worried.

Yu Jingchen didn't answer. The Empress Dowager sighed, glanced at Nan Zhiyun who was still unconscious on the bed, and finally left. It wasn't that she didn't want to stay, but Yu Jingchen wouldn't allow it, so why waste her time?

The Empress Dowager left some space for the two of them, but she herself did not leave. Instead, she went outside to keep watch, because she was still worried about them.

Yu Jingchen walked to Nan Zhiyun's side and slowly squatted down at the head of the bed. He reached out and gently took Nan Zhiyun's hand, held it, and then brought it to his lips. Tears... fell down. Yu Jingchen cried.

Seeing Yu Jingchen with red eyes, holding the little girl's hand with a devout expression, this scene had never been seen before.

"Are you really in such a hurry?" Yu Jingchen asked the little girl, but unfortunately, no one answered her question. Yu Jingchen waited there for more than an hour, and Nan Zhiyun finally showed signs of waking up.

Upon realizing this, Yu Jingchen immediately sat up straight, his eyes fixed on Nan Zhiyun without even blinking. Fortunately, as expected, Nan Zhiyun slowly opened her eyes and finally woke up.

"Yun'er?" Yu Jingchen leaned forward, but Nan Zhiyun didn't respond. Although she had woken up and opened her eyes, she didn't react at all, just staring blankly at the spot above her head.

"How are you feeling? Are you still in pain? Can you say something?" Yu Jingchen's tone was gentle, without any hint of anger, but Nan Zhi remained silent, staring at the ceiling without making a sound.

Perhaps knowing Nan Zhiyun's feelings, Yu Jingchen didn't pressure her. He simply held her hand and asked, "Why did you do this? Where did the medicine come from? Hmm?" He parted his lips slightly and asked Nan Zhiyun.

However, Nan Zhiyun naturally couldn't answer him. Perhaps it was this attitude that finally made Yu Jingchen angry, but... he didn't take it out on Nan Zhiyun.
