Nan Zhiyun stared longingly at Yu Jingchen, but Yu Jingchen seemed to be deliberately teasing her.
"Your Majesty, what are you referring to as 'but'?" Nan Zhiyun hadn't touched these things in a long time, but before she got married, she liked them. Perhaps it was hereditary? After all, Nan Su loved wine the most.
When he was little, he even dipped chopsticks in wine and gave it to Nan Zhiyun, who was only a few years old, but he was punished by the Empress Dowager.
“But… you have to change how you address me. If you do, you can drink.” Yu Jingchen put down the cup.
Nan Zhiyun: "..." Did she hear that right?
"Didn't you hear me?" Yu Jingchen asked her... Hmm, why does it feel like he has ulterior motives?
"Wine can easily intoxicate, and since we are outside the palace, I will follow Your Majesty's wishes and refrain from drinking." Nan Zhiyun lowered her head.
Yu Jingchen raised an eyebrow. Was he just going to give up like that?
"This wine is quite different from what I usually drink; it's rather unique. It must be a new product." Yu Jingchen took another sip. The aroma of the wine was enticing, and Nan Zhiyun's cravings seemed to be unable to be suppressed. Yes, it was her cravings that couldn't be suppressed, not that she couldn't suppress them.
“Your Majesty…” Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen.
Yu Jingchen looked at it but didn't say anything. Nan Zhiyun hesitated for a while... tsk, she still couldn't bring herself to call out.
"Is it really that difficult?" Yu Jingchen said helplessly.
"Alright, I won't tease you anymore. If you want to drink, have a glass, but don't overindulge." Yu Jingchen poured Nan Zhiyun a glass.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun said, her tone much lighter.
Yu Jingchen smiled but didn't speak. Nan Zhiyun picked up the cup, then took a small sip. The wine wasn't strong; it was quite mild, with a faint aroma and even a hint of sweetness. It was perfect for a woman, and it seemed like it was specially prepared for Nan Zhiyun.
"Is it good?" Yu Jingchen asked.
Nan Zhiyun nodded.
"If you like it, have someone send it to He'an Palace later. Just don't drink too much. You might not feel much of a difference while drinking this wine, but drinking too much is bad for your health," Yu Jingchen said.
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Nan Zhiyun was genuinely happy; she truly loved the flavor.
She'd been taking too much medicine these past few days, and her mouth tasted like medicine. Now, drinking this wine, she felt like all the astringent and bitter taste in her mouth had been washed away.
"Alright, let's eat quickly, it'll get cold." With that, Yu Jingchen started serving food to Nan Zhiyun. Actually, Nan Zhiyun also secretly glanced at Yu Jingchen several times later, or more accurately, at the wine next to his hand.
However, Yu Jingchen seemed blind and didn't see it, so in the end Nan Zhiyun gave up the idea of drinking just a little bit more.
After finishing her meal, Nan Zhiyun was almost sleepy because... neither Nan Zhiyun nor Yu Jingchen had spoken a word during the meal.
The room was warm, and there were thick, soft blankets on the seats, making it perfect for sleeping. Nan Zhiyun started to feel lazy. Although she really wanted to go out, it was so comfortable here that she didn't want to move.
"Not going out?" Yu Jingchen looked at Nan Zhiyun with amusement. He had just forgotten to mention that this wine had another characteristic, which was... well, it had a bit of an aftereffect.
"Come on, get up." Yu Jingchen stood up and then extended his hand to Nan Zhiyun.
Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen's outstretched hand and gave it to him. Yu Jingchen pulled her up with a forceful tug, and whether intentionally or not, his strength was quite strong. Nan Zhiyun, feeling dizzy, lost her balance and bumped directly into Yu Jingchen's arms.
"You wanted to drink so much, but you only drank a small cup and still got drunk?" Yu Jingchen teased.
"No," Nan Zhiyun retorted softly, but... she really did feel a little weak and unsteady on her feet.
"How come it's gone? What happened if she's drunk?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"Do you want to continue shopping?" Yu Jingchen asked.
"Yes..." Nan Zhiyun's head was spinning. Now that she was out, how could she not go out for a stroll? She couldn't let such a good opportunity go to waste, could she?
"Okay, then go out. Just don't stray too far from me, understand?" Yu Jingchen said.
"Mmm, okay..." Nan Zhiyun's voice was soft and weak, probably because she had been drinking, and... it even had a sweet taste from the alcohol...
Looking at Nan Zhiyun like this, Yu Jingchen's heart melted. He reached out and took Nan Zhiyun's veil to put it on her, but...
"It feels so heavy on my head..." Nan Zhiyun felt like her head was being pressed down and she couldn't lift it up after wearing this.
Yu Jingchen really wanted to say, "It's because you drank alcohol..."
Nan Zhiyun pushed the hat away: "Can I take it off now?" she asked.
Yu Jingchen looked at her actions with some helplessness, and when he heard her words, he couldn't refuse, so he said, "Then I won't wear it, but I still need to wear the veil."
He then put the veil on Nan Zhiyun. He had prepared this in advance, just in case Nan Zhiyun wouldn't want to wear the troublesome veil. Now it really came in handy.
Yu Jingchen helped Nan Zhiyun tidy up, and finally took her cloak and dressed her before leading the others out.
"Young Master" Xinglai quickly stepped forward after seeing Yu Jingchen and the others come out.
"Let's go," Yu Jingchen said without further ado, keeping his arm around Nan Zhiyun the whole way. Qian Xia knew Nan Zhiyun well, so she noticed her unusual behavior.
“Young master, Miss…” Qianxia was a little worried.
"It's nothing, I just had some wine and got a little drunk." Yu Jingchen said this while looking at Nan Zhiyun, his tone carrying a hint of doting affection.
"Drunk? Then..." Qianxia was a little confused by the answer.
"Alright, don't worry, let's go. Also, she's not a young lady, she's a madam, remember that." Yu Jingchen didn't want to say anything more.
Qianxia obediently withdrew without saying anything more. The group quickly left the restaurant, but no one noticed that Xinglai had just taken the two of them away for a short while.
Since they planned to explore the area, Yu Jingchen and Nan Zhiyun didn't take a carriage this time. However, Nan Zhiyun... seemed to be constantly nestled in Yu Jingchen's arms.
"Where are we going?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"Going to buy things," Nan Zhiyun replied quickly, immediately continuing the conversation.
"What are you buying? Jewelry?" Yu Jingchen asked, his hand still resting on Nan Zhiyun's waist.
"Buy everything, buy everything." Nan Zhiyun was a little dizzy and didn't even know what she was saying.
"Want everything? So greedy?" Yu Jingchen found Nan Zhiyun's behavior somewhat amusing.
"Yes, Her Majesty the Empress Dowager said that girls should buy more things, and they don't need to choose. Just buy whatever is available," Nan Zhiyun said.
Yu Jingchen chuckled and asked, "So, what do you want to buy first?"
"Hairpins, bracelets, earrings..." Nan Zhiyun listed them one by one.
