Chapter 657 Dual Rebirth: I Like You

Nan Zhiyun didn't respond, and Yu Jingchen, seeing this, said nothing more, simply holding her. Outside, a thunderstorm raged, as if foreshadowing an extraordinary storm.

Nan Zhiyun didn't say a word, just stood there blankly curled up in Yu Jingchen's arms. She was terrified, but it was unclear whether she was frightened by the dream or by the thunder and lightning outside.

"Yun'er, be good, don't be afraid. I'll tell you a story, okay?" Yu Jingchen hoped to distract her by telling her some stories.

But Nan Zhiyun shook her head: "Don't listen..." Nan Zhiyun shrank into Yu Jingchen's arms. Her mind was full of the images she had just thought of, and she couldn't get them out of her head.

"Is there anything Yun'er wants to do right now? I'll do it with you, okay?" Yu Jingchen didn't want him to continue dwelling on his current emotions.

But Nan Zhiyun didn't respond at all. How could Yu Jingchen not be worried? But he didn't know what to do.

"Shall I help you wipe yourself down and then rest with you?" Yu Jingchen asked her gently.

"I don't want to sleep..." Nan Zhiyun's voice trembled noticeably.

"But it's already very late, you should rest, you know?" Yu Jingchen tried to comfort him.

"No... you'll still dream when you're asleep..." Nan Zhiyun said.

Her words made Yu Jingchen's heart tremble slightly. He pulled Nan Zhiyun closer to his arms and said, "Let's just stay like this. It's okay, I'm always here. Don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen gently coaxed her. Nan Zhiyun was clearly not fully recovered yet. The things in her dream seemed to be slowly fading away, and her memories were becoming blurry. However, the fear in her heart had not dissipated.

And so, Yu Jingchen held Nan Zhiyun in his arms for almost the entire night. Thunder roared and rain poured outside, and Nan Zhiyun couldn't fall asleep until late at night when she finally managed to drift off.

Yu Jingchen probably realized that Nan Zhiyun was very sleepy, but she was just too scared to sleep. He held her in his arms and patted her gently, saying, "Don't worry, if you're sleepy, just sleep, okay? I promise you I won't go anywhere today."

Nan Zhiyun did not respond. It was unclear whether Yu Jingchen's words had an effect, or whether Nan Zhiyun simply couldn't hold on any longer, but she slowly closed her eyes.

Yu Jingchen didn't dare to make any big movements, afraid that he might wake the little girl up again if he wasn't careful, and it would be difficult to get her back to sleep.

Once Nan Zhiyun had almost fallen asleep, Yu Jingchen finally breathed a sigh of relief. The little girl in his arms was breathing softly and steadily. Yu Jingchen looked over and saw that the little girl's face was flushed, probably because she had just cried. So even in her sleep, she was letting out a long breath. She was very cute, but also very endearing.

He held the little girl tightly without letting go, and took out a clean handkerchief from the side to gently wipe Nan Zhiyun's face.

"Yun'er, don't think about those things..." Yu Jingchen murmured. Those memories were a bomb that could be detonated at any time for Yu Jingchen, while for Nan Zhiyun, they were all painful things.

It is true that she made mistakes in her past life, but if these memories were put back into Nan Zhiyun's mind, it would only be another form of torment for her.

“Those things were bad, I know I was wrong, and I will make up for it in the future, but… Yun’er, I really want to be selfish just this once, so don’t think about it.” Yu Jingchen gently traced Nan Zhiyun’s outline with his hand.

If Nan Zhiyun remembers, will she... forgive him? Yu Jingchen didn't dare take the risk. Although there might be unfairness involved, having already lost Nan Zhiyun once, he didn't have the courage to face her a second time.

If Nan Zhiyun remembers everything, will she want to leave? If that day really comes, how could he possibly let go? Whenever he and Nan Zhiyun have such a conflict, Yu Jingchen will never be able to convince himself to compromise. So… if Nan Zhiyun really becomes stubborn, what if she ends up hurting him?

Sorrow and hesitation filled Yu Jingchen's eyes... He apologized; he could spend the rest of his life repenting. But... he absolutely could not let Nan Zhiyun leave him again; he wouldn't be able to control himself living like that...

Yu Jingchen's eyes slowly reddened, whether from sadness or some other emotion, it was unclear. At a certain point, Yu Jingchen suddenly had the thought of imprisoning the little girl forever, but he knew that was wrong. Doing so would only push Nan Zhiyun further away and cause her even greater harm.

He couldn't sleep a wink that night. The commotion outside was too great, and Yu Jingchen felt uneasy... Perhaps he should go find Gu Yin...

The next morning, when Nan Zhiyun woke up, she found herself being held in someone's arms; it was Yu Jingchen.

Nan Zhiyun dared not move. She secretly glanced at Yu Jingchen, who was still fast asleep. Today was really strange. He didn't wake up and didn't have to attend the morning court session?

Nan Zhiyun looked at him. To be honest, Nan Zhiyun had never looked at Yu Jingchen so seriously before. At this moment, he did not seem so sharp, nor did he give people a sense of pressure as usual.

Nan Zhiyun was held in his arms, barely daring to breathe. Yu Jingchen… actually, Yu Jingchen was quite handsome, very good-looking. The two most handsome men in Yuan Dynasty were the Imperial Advisor Gu Yin and the current Emperor Yu Jingchen.
