Inside the hunting grounds, Nan Zhiyun wandered aimlessly, her body still aching. It was getting dark, but she couldn't find the exit, nor did she know where those people had mentioned.
She suppressed her fear, holding back all her tears. She knew crying wouldn't help. There was no sound from her, and she didn't know if they would ever find her.
Nan Zhiyun was a little tired; it was completely dark now. If she had been in such a pitch-black environment before, she probably would have been too frightened to control her emotions, since she had even felt scared when she slept with the candles out. However, because Yu Jingchen would always extinguish the candles and comfort her, telling her not to be afraid, Nan Zhiyun wasn't so afraid of the darkness now.
But this only meant she was less afraid of the dark; her current situation was far more complex than just the darkness. Nan Zhiyun wanted to find a place to rest; she had no idea where she was now.
But at that moment, Nan Zhiyun suddenly heard some noise, probably the panting of some animal. Nan Zhiyun's heart immediately started pounding, filled with fear and tension.
Sure enough, Nan Zhiyun turned her head and saw a pair of green eyes...
Awoo
It looked like a wolf, and Nan Zhiyun panicked instantly. She wanted to run, but she felt like she couldn't move; her body seemed to be frozen in place.
The wolf seemed to sense that someone was there, so it started to walk towards them. Nan Zhiyun was so frightened that she could hardly stand, her legs were trembling, and she kept herself from screaming. She took a step back.
The vegetation here was so lush, and Nan Zhiyun was rather flustered, so she tripped and fell.
"Ah!" Nan Zhiyun couldn't help but exclaim.
The wolf, perhaps startled, followed her. Nan Zhiyun scrambled to her feet. What to do? She was terrified, yet utterly helpless. Was she going to die here today? Or be eaten by this wolf…? Her mind raced with wild thoughts.
Just then, the wolf pounced, and Nan Zhiyun screamed in fright. She then raised her hand to cover her eyes, too afraid to look.
"Awooo!" the wolf howled in pain.
Nan Zhiyun waited until she felt no pain, then slowly lowered her hand and looked over. She saw a feathered arrow stuck in the wolf's body, lying motionless, whimpering.
Nan Zhiyun's heart was still pounding; the scene before her had terrified her. She looked up, thinking someone had found her or that Yu Jingchen had arrived, but after looking around, she couldn't see a single person.
But where did this arrow come from? Who is protecting her? Nan Zhiyun comforted herself with these thoughts, and only then did she feel somewhat at ease.
But Nan Zhiyun couldn't worry about that now; she got up and was about to run. What if another wolf came? But this was deep in the mountains, and it was nighttime—how could she get through?
Just as Nan Zhiyun was wondering what to do, another arrow was shot at her, this time hitting a tree not far in front of her.
What does this mean? Nan Zhiyun didn't understand. Was it giving her directions? She walked in the direction indicated with a skeptical attitude.
