She truly never imagined that because of her words, she would not only lose her position but also be punished.
Yu Jingchen ignored her pleas for mercy and left, leaving Min Shi alone behind, wailing in pain.
Yu Jingchen stayed outside for quite a while, only turning back after Xinglai said Nansu had left Zichen Palace. But fate had other plans... ah, no, it should be said that it was just in time; the two happened to run into each other.
"This old minister greets Your Majesty." Nan Su bowed.
"General Nan must be tired from your journey. Please go back and rest. You have rendered great service. I will hold a banquet to welcome you back another day and bestow further rewards upon you," Yu Jingchen said.
Nan Su smiled gently: "It is my duty, I dare not claim credit."
"General, there's no need to belittle yourself. I'll send someone to escort you back to the palace." Yu Jingchen clearly didn't want to continue arguing.
Nan Su, showing no hesitation, didn't press the matter further. However... as he left, Nan Su said, "Your Majesty... Yun'er has grown up."
Yu Jingchen didn't understand the meaning behind it, but he could guess what Nan Su wanted to express.
"General, it's time to leave the palace." Alright, Yu Jingchen has already made his stance clear. Nan Su nodded and left the palace with the help of palace servants.
Yu Jingchen watched his departing figure, his expression becoming complicated. But it was only for a fleeting moment before he withdrew his gaze and headed towards Zichen Palace.
Nan Zhiyun hadn't rested yet, since Yu Jingchen hadn't returned. She stayed outside until he came back.
When Yu Jingchen arrived, he saw Nan Zhiyun sitting alone outside. He seemed to see loneliness in her... it was heartbreaking. The moment she saw him, Nan Zhiyun stood up.
"Why are you sitting outside?" Yu Jingchen walked up and stopped her as she was about to bow.
"Wait for His Majesty to return," Nan Zhiyun replied softly.
Waiting for me to come back? Yu Jingchen felt as if something had suddenly touched his heart.
“You don’t need to wait outside next time,” Yu Jingchen said, then looked at her feet: “Can you go in by yourself?” he asked.
Nan Zhiyun nodded, but... after taking only two steps, she felt a slight pain in her feet.
Yu Jingchen was right next to her, so he clearly felt her movement and immediately lifted her up sideways. Nan Zhiyun gasped in surprise, but she was already quite used to it and wasn't too surprised. Yu Jingchen carried her back to the room, and Nan Zhiyun was placed on the bed and seated.
"You've cried." Yu Jingchen said this not as a question, but as a statement. Nan Zhiyun remained silent, perhaps afraid to speak rashly.
"I'll have someone help you wash up. You can rest now." Yu Jingchen straightened up.
Nan Zhiyun nodded gently. Yu Jingchen called in the palace maid, but... after Nan Zhiyun changed her clothes... the clothes she wore were rather revealing.
When she was helped out by the palace maid, she felt very uncomfortable. She didn't know if it was because the water was too hot when she bathed, which made her cheeks red, or for some other reason. Now her face was completely flushed. Yu Jingchen glanced at her and his eyes darkened slightly.
“There’s nothing else here…” Nan Zhiyun explained, since it wasn’t He’an Palace, so there weren’t many of her things here.
"Have someone bring it over tomorrow. Let's leave it like this for today. It's fine." Yu Jingchen seemed unconcerned.
Nan Zhiyun stood still, head down. Yu Jingchen walked over, and because of his height, he could see Nan Zhiyun's snow-white skin as soon as he looked down.
Putting aside the relationship between the two of them and Nan Zhiyun's fear of Yu Jingchen, Yu Jingchen is unlikely to actually do anything, after all, Nan Zhiyun is currently pregnant.
"Are you cold?" Yu Jingchen asked her, and Nan Zhiyun shook her head.
"Go to sleep." Yu Jingchen didn't respond with anything else.
Nan Zhiyun pursed her lips and stood still without moving. Yu Jingchen looked at her with some confusion. What did she mean by this?
"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"I bumped my foot while I was taking a shower just now." Nan Zhiyun said this with a little lack of confidence. Yu Jingchen frowned slightly upon hearing this.
"Why couldn't you be more careful? You knew you had a foot injury, yet you were still so careless." Yu Jingchen said this with a hint of helplessness. He picked the person up and bounced them around in his arms.
"Have you become addicted lately?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
Nan Zhiyun blushed and lowered her head, it was hard to tell if she was acquiescing or genuinely embarrassed.
Looking at her like this, Yu Jingchen's eyes flickered slightly. He had to admit that he had never seen her like this before. And now, holding her so close, a burning sensation immediately spread throughout his body.
Yu Jingchen quickly suppressed his thoughts and, somewhat coyly, carried the person towards the bed.
But... just as Yu Jingchen was about to put her down and stand up, Nan Zhiyun did not let go.
“…I’m scared…” Nan Zhiyun said.
When Yu Jingchen heard Nan Zhiyun say this, he was puzzled: "What are you afraid of? Is it still that dream you had at noon today?" he asked.
"Hmm..." Nan Zhiyun hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"Didn't I tell you? It's just a dream. If you're really scared, just close your eyes and don't think about it. I won't leave, and I'll leave you a candle, so don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen took Nan Zhiyun's hand and then took it away.
