Looking at the silent Nan Zhiyun, Yu Jingchen felt a sense of helplessness. It seemed that she no longer trusted his words.
"Alright, if you want to be alone for a while, I won't bother you now. How about I give you half an hour to sort out your feelings? After half an hour, I'll come and have dinner with you, and then we can go to Cining Palace, okay?" Yu Jingchen asked Nan Zhiyun for her opinion.
"Cian Palace?" Nan Zhiyun didn't know why she suddenly had to go to Cian Palace.
"Her Majesty the Empress Dowager knows you're pregnant, so she wanted to see you and was worried about you. She was originally going to come too, but I saw that you've been staying cooped up in your room these past few days, so I told her that I'll take you with me this time, so you can get some fresh air." Yu Jingchen explained to Nan Zhiyun that he was anxious because she hadn't been going out much these past few days, and wanted to find a way to get her out for some fresh air.
Nan Zhiyun's expression clearly showed resistance, but this time she didn't refuse. After all, the main purpose was to go to Cining Palace, so it wasn't something she couldn't accept.
Yu Jingchen didn't disturb her any further; he meant half an hour. He left the room, while Xinglai remained outside to keep watch.
"We must keep a close eye on things these days, and absolutely no mistakes can be made. The Imperial Kitchen no longer needs to send anything over. All of Consort Shu's meals will be prepared by a dedicated person in the kitchen of Zichen Palace. All the supplies used should also be replaced with new ones. From now on, Zichen Palace should no longer use incense, and Consort Shu is not allowed to use any perfumes on herself." Yu Jingchen gave these instructions, showing that he had taken care of every aspect.
Fortunately, no one had expected that His Majesty would consider so many things. However, these things had become very simple for Yu Jingchen. In his previous life, Nan Zhiyun was in poor health and her pregnancies were always unstable, so she had to be extremely careful every time she became pregnant. Having been by Nan Zhiyun's side for a long time, he had come to understand these things.
"Yes," Xinglai replied cautiously. In truth, when he first learned that Consort Shu was pregnant, even he thought that His Majesty disliked the child, or even wouldn't allow it to be born. But now it seemed that His Majesty wasn't as indifferent to the child as he appeared, but rather looked forward to it.
"Keep a close eye on things secretly. If anyone tries anything, deal with them immediately." How could Yu Jingchen allow his subordinates to do anything to Nan Zhiyun and the child?
After his rebirth, Yu Jingchen seemed to have become much gentler in some ways, and was no longer as cold and unapproachable as before. However, when it came to Nan Zhiyun, he was never ambiguous about anything concerning her. If anyone was involved in Nan Zhiyun's safety, he would still not hesitate, and might even be more ruthless than before.
"Alright, go down now," Yu Jingchen said.
"Yes," Xinglai replied and withdrew. His Majesty's feelings for Consort Shu were truly different now than before. Which direction should he take in the future? His Majesty seemed to have fallen in love with Consort Shu, but how could His Majesty allow himself to truly fall in love?
Xinglai became bewildered by the current situation. He shared the same thought as everyone else: His Majesty, no matter who he had feelings for, would never be interested in Consort Shu, since His Majesty had always been a very rational person. But now… things seemed to have spiraled out of control, developing in an increasingly unpredictable direction.
Yu Jingchen sat outside for most of the day; he promised half an hour, and he really did stay for half an hour. After half an hour, Yu Jingchen returned to the house, where Nan Zhiyun was lying on her side, seemingly asleep.
Yu Jingchen raised an eyebrow and walked over, then sat down next to Nan Zhiyun: "Are you asleep?" he asked with a smile, but it was just a question. How could he not know whether Nan Zhiyun was asleep or not? If she were really asleep, he wouldn't have asked that question.
“Hmm…” Nan Zhiyun said.
"Half an hour has passed. I'll pick you up, then you can eat and take your medicine, okay?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"Mmm," Nan Zhiyun didn't refuse. Yu Jingchen smiled, patted her head, then picked her up, placed a pillow on his lap, and let her sit on his lap.
People outside gradually brought out Nan Zhiyun's food, all according to her preferences.
"From now on, just tell the people below what you want to eat. You don't need the imperial kitchen anymore. Zichen Palace has set up a small kitchen now. You can have them make whatever you want to eat. It will be safer that way," Yu Jingchen told her.
"And we don't need to use incense or anything like that anymore, because we don't know what's in it or what might be mixed in. We might not even be able to detect it. Your condition is special right now, so it's better to be careful." Yu Jingchen knew that his behavior earlier had made Nan Zhiyun uneasy. She felt that he didn't care about the child, so he wanted to give her more reassurance in this way and tell her that he also wanted the child to be safe.
"And... Yun'er, you're pregnant now, so you need to be careful in everything you do and never leave someone's side. Other places aren't very safe, but Zichen Palace is much safer than other places, so please stay here peacefully, okay?" Yu Jingchen returned to this topic.
Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen, but did not give a direct answer.
