Qiu Yun helped Yu Wan'er sit down opposite Nan Zhiyun. They didn't talk much throughout, but thankfully Yu Wan'er was sensible and ate quietly without causing any trouble.
After having breakfast, Yu Wan'er obediently returned to the side hall. Before leaving, Nan Zhiyun told her that she no longer needed to come and pay her respects.
This little episode ended quickly. Nan Zhiyun was still feeling a bit unwell, so she was too lazy to move. "Why am I feeling so uncomfortable this time?" Nan Zhiyun complained softly.
"Niangniang" refers to Jiang Ji.
"Jiang Ji? It's Lingdang who brought it back." Nan Zhiyun quickly noticed the cat he was holding.
"Yes, His Majesty ordered that the bell be returned to the Empress." Jiang Ji replied respectfully.
"Bring it here." Nan Zhiyun was delighted.
"Yes," Jiang Ji knelt down and handed the bell to Nan Zhiyun. His hand was still scratched by the bell.
"Why don't you stand up?" Nan Zhiyun took the bell from her.
"Yes... thank you, Consort Shu." Jiang Ji stood up.
"Is your hand injury still not healed?" Nan Zhiyun asked casually as she teased the cat.
"Thank you for your concern, Your Highness. I am much better now, thanks to the ointment Your Highness bestowed upon me," Jiang Ji said. After he was injured, Nan Zhiyun had someone bring him the medicine.
"That's good." After saying that, Nan Zhiyun didn't say anything more, just kept teasing the cat. But... why did Lingdang seem so strange today? Why did it look unhappy? It was just lying there.
"What's wrong with the bell? Why does it look unhappy?" Nan Zhiyun asked.
"Replying to Consort Shu... His Majesty previously instructed that the bells..." Jiang Ji hesitated before speaking.
"Huh?" Nan Zhiyun looked completely bewildered. His Majesty had previously ordered Jiang Ji to take away the things belonging to Lingdang because he was worried there might be something wrong with them. But now it seemed like things weren't quite the same...
"Your Majesty, His Majesty has ordered that Lingdang be sterilized," Jiang Ji replied.
Sterilization?! Nan Zhiyun was shocked.
“It…” Nan Zhiyun looked at the bell in her arms in disbelief.
Well… I feel sorry for her. Nan Zhiyun gently stroked the bell. She's so pitiful…
"Why didn't Your Majesty tell me beforehand?" Nan Zhiyun was unaware of this matter.
Jiang Ji didn't speak, but Nan Zhiyun noticed something amiss when she looked up.
"What's wrong with you?" Nan Zhiyun frowned.
"Your Majesty, this servant is alright." Jiang Ji lowered his head.
But Nan Zhiyun had already seen it, so it was impossible for her to give up just like that.
"Who slapped you in the face?" Nan Zhiyun asked. Jiang Ji's face was red and swollen, with some handprints still on it.
Qianxia had just noticed him. Jiang Ji was usually taciturn, and he always kept his head down in front of Nan Zhiyun, so she hadn't paid attention to him.
“Yes…Princess.” Jiang Ji knelt down.
Princess?
"Yu Yan'er?" Nan Zhiyun asked.
“Yes,” Jiang Ji replied.
"Your Highness, Princess Yu brought the princess to the palace today," Qianxia said.
"Why would she attack you?" Nan Zhiyun asked her.
“This servant returned the bell today as His Majesty instructed. On the way, I met Princess Yan. The princess said that this servant was blocking her way, so…” Even though she didn’t finish her sentence, Nan Zhiyun knew what had happened.
