Nan Zhiyun was somewhat bewildered. The voice was familiar, but... she didn't know who it was. Who would comfort her like this?
Nan Zhiyun was in a daze, and Yu Jingchen was anxious, so he simply squatted down beside her: "Yun'er? Are you awake? Hmm?"
This time, Nan Zhiyun heard it. She tried hard to see the scene in front of her, and then she saw Yu Jingchen. At that moment, the shadow in her heart overshadowed all her emotions. She hid behind him. Perhaps because she was too scared, her subconscious reaction was a little too strong. So when she hid behind him, she accidentally touched her wound.
"It hurts so much..." Nan Zhiyun was in so much pain she couldn't make a sound. Yu Jingchen was also startled by her condition and quickly went to pull her back.
"Be careful, you're hurt." Yu Jingchen pulled her into his arms. Nan Zhiyun tried to hide, her body trembling.
"Don't be afraid, it's alright..." Yu Jingchen's heart was in turmoil. What should he do? What should he do?
"No...don't hit me...I didn't hurt her child...don't hit me..." Nan Zhiyun said. Yu Jingchen heard her clearly. He also felt guilty and wanted to hit himself, but there was nothing he could do; what was done was done.
"No, I won't hit you anymore, don't worry, no one will hit you. I know, I know you're innocent, it's all my fault, I couldn't tell right from wrong, I didn't protect you. It's all my fault, don't be afraid, okay? I know I was wrong, don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen patted her back, trying to comfort her.
Nan Zhiyun was so frightened that she couldn't control her body. Yu Jingchen was holding her, so he knew how terrifying her physical reaction was. This time, she was truly terrified...
"I didn't hurt her... Don't hit me, it hurts so much... Have mercy..." Nan Zhiyun kept saying these few words. Yu Jingchen felt sorry for her, but he could only use these few words to comfort her.
"It's over, it's alright, it's all in the past, don't be afraid."
Yu Jingchen carefully avoided touching her wounds, letting Nan Zhiyun nestle in his arms. He didn't know if it was from fear, pain, or something else, but Nan Zhiyun was crying again. Yu Jingchen could feel a warmth spreading through his arms.
Nan Zhiyun couldn't calm down, so Yu Jingchen could only wait for her to calm down. But how could Nan Zhiyun's condition possibly improve so quickly? So, fearing that she might have other problems, Yu Jingchen looked down at the person in his arms and said, "Don't be afraid, okay? Look at me, hmm?" Yu Jingchen coaxed her gently.
Nan Zhiyun wouldn't listen and just wanted to hide. Yu Jingchen cupped Nan Zhiyun's face in his hands, and when Nan Zhiyun looked at him, the fear in her eyes was impossible to hide.
"Don't be afraid, it's over. No one will hit you anymore. I know you were wronged today. It's all my fault. I was wrong and couldn't tell right from wrong. Don't be scared, okay? You're still injured. If we touch your wounds again, it will hurt." Yu Jingchen helped Nan Zhiyun tidy her hair. Nan Zhiyun's body had been wiped several times today, and the injured areas were on her back, so she was basically naked.
Nan Zhiyun stared at the scene in disbelief, as if she couldn't quite process what was happening. Was this person... Yu Jingchen?
"I didn't hurt her... I didn't want to hurt your child... I didn't deny my guilt..." Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen humbly, her eyes brimming with tears that blurred her vision. Seeing the despair in her eyes was like falling into a bottomless black abyss, as if the surrounding air itself was weeping...
"I know," Yu Jingchen said, patting her head with a soothing tone, though his heart ached as if pricked by needles.
"I know you've been wronged. It was my fault this time. I apologize to you, okay? Or you can hit me to vent your anger when you're better. Don't be afraid, okay?" Yu Jingchen coaxed her patiently.
Nan Zhiyun didn't speak, her heart still mostly filled with fear, but... why did he seem like a different person? When she was being punished today, was it he who ordered her to stop? But... it was clearly him who wanted to punish her.
It hurt so much when the board hit her. She thought she was going to die there, but... but compared to her current state, she wished she could just die already. She felt there was no point in continuing. She had long since given up on life, and this was the final blow. She... didn't have the courage to go on living.
"Give me death...please? I want to die...let me die..." Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen, and when Yu Jingchen heard her say this, his whole face crumpled up.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Don't say it anymore. It will be alright, don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen wiped away her tears.
Nan Zhiyun shook her head: "Please... I don't want this anymore, I beg you, grant me death."
"Alright, stop talking, or I'll get upset. These words aren't nice to hear, don't think about them." Yu Jingchen said gently, pulling her back into his arms. "Once you're better, you can do whatever makes you feel better, but you can't say those things. Be good." Yu Jingchen patiently persuaded her. Nan Zhiyun didn't know why Yu Jingchen had suddenly become like a different person, but this side of him terrified her even more.
"Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat? Is there anything you'd like to eat? Tell me, and I'll have someone bring it over, okay?" Yu Jingchen tried to divert Yu Jingchen's attention.
Nan Zhiyun did not answer, and Yu Jingchen was not annoyed. For Nan Zhiyun, what she needed most right now was comfort, and he could only be patient with her.
"Eat something. You haven't eaten in a long time. Are you hungry?" Yu Jingchen placed a hand on Nan Zhiyun's stomach. "Your stomach is telling me it's hungry, so what do you want to eat?" Yu Jingchen whispered in Nan Zhiyun's ear.
