Chapter 13 [Please add to your favorites]
A smile appeared on Song Ying's face, making him look more approachable. "There's nothing to congratulate you on. It's seven days in total. Remember to go to the front of the village for dinner every night. There's a large open space there, perfect for a banquet."
Lin Leyou: "No problem, I'll definitely go if I can get a free meal, so I don't have to cook for myself."
Song Ying: "That's good."
Lin Leyou's eyes flashed, and he said casually, "An old lady just told me about this, I didn't expect you to come in person..."
Song Ying was taken aback. "Really? Who is it?"
Lin Leyou briefly explained the grandmother's situation, and Song Ying smiled and said, "Oh, so it's her. I see."
After Song Ying finished speaking, he left, as if he had only come to tell him about this and to invite him to dinner.
Lin Leyou recalled Song Ying's smile from earlier and felt something was off; it seemed to be a sarcastic sneer.
Judging from Song Ying's attitude and tone, he seemed not to care much about this matter, but in fact he probably still valued becoming the village chief.
They took it so seriously that they personally came to notify a temporary small business owner who had only been working in the village for seven days.
Although he didn't know the specifics, Lin Leyou didn't intend to meddle. In any case, no matter how much bloodshed there was, it wasn't aimed at him.
This is his first job in the endless world, so it's best to be cautious. Even if he wants to take further action, he should wait until he is familiar with this world.
Time passed by, and soon it was five o'clock. He calculated his gains for the day. The players' spending power was indeed quite good, but... the number of players was decreasing day by day.
He remembered that some players had bought fruit knives from his shop, but he didn't know if they would ever be able to use them.
He closed and locked the door. If he goes there at five o'clock now, he shouldn't have to wait long to eat, right?
He strolled leisurely along the village road. To be honest, this village is indeed a place that has developed into agritourism destinations. The stone path looks really picturesque, and the houses of the surrounding villagers have also been simply decorated.
Both roads are lined with flowers and some pretty green plants, and at first glance, it really does feel like a paradise.
The village itself wasn't very big. He hadn't walked far when he saw the flat area that Song Ying had mentioned in front of the village, with a huge locust tree at the edge.
The branches are lush, and many lanterns hang from the branches. Of course, lanterns are also hung all around, making it look very festive.
Although he didn't know why there were no electric lights, it wasn't too dark with so many lanterns hanging. He slowly walked over, and many villagers who had been to the store before recognized him and greeted him very warmly.
"The young boss is here. Come and sit here. This is your seat. Don't forget it. You can sit here every time you come. If you forget, remember to ask someone."
Lin Leyou glanced at her seat, which was on the outermost side of the table, easy to remember. "I understand, thank you. By the way, when are we eating?"
"Don't rush, we'll be eating in half an hour."
Lin Leyou said, "That's good. I'm starving. This is a great thing for the village chief. I should eat more."
Not far from his location was a makeshift stove built of bricks, where several large pots were cooking meat, which smelled delicious.
The villagers who were busy working all smiled kindly when they heard him say that.
"Of course! Everyone should eat more and have a good time!"
After waiting for about half an hour, the banquet really did start. Lin Leyou looked at both sides of him. On one side sat the old lady who had come to inform him earlier, while the other side was empty. What was going on? Were there still people who hadn't arrived?
But once the meal started, why was everyone just sitting there without eating? He didn't think too much about it; they must have their reasons for not eating, so he just followed suit.
Song Ying appeared at that very moment.
The table was laden with fine wine and food, and Song Ying stood at the front, smiling broadly as he spoke to everyone, saying that he would do his best for the village in the future.
He didn't say much, finishing in about three minutes.
Lin Leyou thought that he could eat after he finished speaking, but to his surprise, his gaze shifted and stared at the empty seat next to him for a few seconds. His expression changed from joy to gloomy in an instant.
There were lanterns hanging all around, and there were many of them, but the area was so large that many places were still quite dark. In addition, it was already dark, which made many people look gloomy.
Most importantly, no one in the room spoke; there was complete silence, as if all other sounds had been shut out at that moment.
This terrifying silence lasted for half a minute. Song Ying's eyes actually darted in opposite directions for a moment before returning to normal. He then asked coldly, "Who's sitting in this seat?"
Lin Leyou, of course, didn't know that he was new, but he didn't say anything.
On the other side, the old lady was trembling, and Lin Leyou, sitting next to her, could almost hear her teeth chattering.
No one spoke, but everyone's eyes were simultaneously drawn to Lin Leyou's side.
Although he wasn't looking at himself, the old lady next to him was very close, which made him feel a chill down his spine.
Song Ying took two steps forward, bent down, brought his face close to the old woman's, and asked softly, "Grandma, where is your son?"
The grandmother didn't say anything, but Lin Leyou was starting to suspect that she might have Parkinson's disease from her trembling.
And then, he suddenly noticed that the old lady was looking at him. Huh? What did that mean? Was she looking at him for help?
Should I ask him for help?
Are you kidding me? He's a complete noob right now, barely surviving on his own, how could he possibly help others?
He pretended not to see it and looked away.
Song Ying grinned, "Grandma! Why are you looking at the young boss? He's not your son!"
"Even a temporary worker here knows to give me face, but I didn't expect your son to be so arrogant. He's really hard to invite. I went to ask him myself, but he still wouldn't come. Is he trying to antagonize me?"
"Or... is it that... he... wouldn't want me to be the village chief?"
Changing the subject, Song Ying added, "Or perhaps... he wants to be the village chief?"
The old woman, in a panic, finally spoke up, "No, no, everyone is happy that you've become the village chief. How could we look down on you? My son just stayed up all night playing and overslept. He didn't have any other intentions."
Before Song Ying could even finish speaking, a man's arrogant voice came from behind, "What? Overslept? I just don't agree to you becoming the village chief, what can you do about it?!"
Song Ying blinked, then turned around with a smile to look at the man who appeared in front of everyone, his expression very kind.
