Zhou Wenshu walked aimlessly until dark, then sat down by a small river and continued to stare blankly.
Shen Qianxue had Shen Xi drive him around, and did nothing else, nor said anything else.
It rained in Fanping yesterday, and it was quite cold late at night.
Shen Xi lit a fire on a flat area and sat around it with Shen Qianxue and Su Jinxia, warming themselves by the fire and sighing.
"Su Jinxia, I now agree with your opinion. This guy is a coward! And a brute!" Shen Xi cursed.
Su Jin shook her head. "What a coincidence, I don't think so anymore?"
Chen Xi: "Huh?"
Su Jin smiled and said, "He was willing to stand up for Zhou Lian, so he has some backbone, doesn't he?"
"That may be true, but if we don't act today, he's doomed." Having guts is useless without ability; the young master is counting on him to plot important matters!
Su Jin glanced at the somewhat hunched figure, then suddenly stood up and said, "I can't wait any longer. Let me go over and teach this idiot a lesson!"
Shen Qianxue did not stop her.
Su Jin walked down and sat down next to Zhou Wenshu.
"What are you thinking about? Do you want me to scold you a couple more times?"
Su Jin was extremely arrogant, as if scolding you was an honor.
Zhou Wenshu already knew Su Jinxia's temperament, so he wasn't angry. Instead, he choked up with shame and said, "Go ahead and scold me. I deserve to be scolded."
Su Jin scoffed, "You have no backbone. I don't even want to scold you. If you want to repent, then take revenge and kneel in front of Fang Ling's grave for three days and three nights. What's the point of being here looking so dejected?"
Zhou Wenshu's shoulders twitched slightly, and he covered his face, two lines of clear tears spilling from between his fingers.
“I… I just remembered too many things I dared not think about before. She clearly warned me that Lin Que was not a good person, but I thought she was just being narrow-minded. In the month before she died, she was depressed and often hesitated to speak, but I was focused on the provincial examination and never asked her what was wrong. I killed her, I… killed her!”
Zhou Wenshu pounded his chest, overwhelmed with remorse!
Su Jin was deeply moved. She had always felt that she was foolish, which was why she had died so tragically in her previous life.
It turns out that even smart people can make mistakes and cause irreparable consequences.
"No one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes. At least you are fundamentally different from villains like Lin Que. Instead of dwelling on the past, you should think about how to make amends."
"When the world is in chaos, the evil in people's hearts can no longer be suppressed and begins to grow wildly, and tragedies are happening everywhere."
Su Jinxia said everything she needed to say and returned to Shen Qianxue's side.
Not long after, Zhou Wenshu composed himself, walked over, bowed deeply, and said, "I will never forget your life-saving grace today."
The three of them quickly stood up, and Shen Qianxue returned the greeting, saying, "It was nothing, sir, you don't need to worry about it."
"May I ride in Young Master Chen's carriage back to the city?"
Zhou Wenshu's gaze was resolute; it seemed he had figured out what he should do.
Shen Qianxue nodded gently.
Back in the city, it was already midnight, so everyone went to their rooms to rest.
The next morning, Zhou Wenshu presented Shen Qianxue with two petitions that had been written overnight.
Su Jin glanced at it from the side.
The petition detailed Lin Que's misdeeds over the years and was to be submitted to the Dali Temple in Kyoto.
"Are you going to file a complaint with the emperor?"
Zhou Wenshu nodded.
Su Jinxia looked a little worried. "Although I don't understand the court, I know that everything must be based on evidence. Can you convict Lin Que with just this one complaint?"
The key issue is the lack of empirical evidence!
If Lin Que doesn't die by then, Zhou Wenshu will be silenced first.
Su Jin was momentarily confused. Zhou Wenshu, what is it about you that made Old Master Lin personally recommend you?
Shen Qianxue put down the petition and said softly, "Leaving aside whether anyone in the court will take care of this matter, your petition may not even be able to leave the territory of Fanping."
Zhou Wenshu remained expressionless and calmly said, "I know."
Then, Zhou Wenshu lifted his robe and knelt before Shen Qianxue.
Su Jin was so frightened that she moved away a little.
Shen Qianxue received a great gift for no reason, and her expression became even colder.
"It seems Mr. Zhou has some plans. Please stand up and speak."
Zhou Wenshu shook his head, "I know it's impossible for me to bring down Lin Que, or even the City Lord's Mansion behind him, on my own. So I implore Young Master Shen to lend me a hand."
Shen Qianxue gave Shen Xi a look, and Shen Xi stepped forward to help Zhou Wenshu up.
Shen Qianxue then asked, "What is your plan, sir? What can I do for you?"
Zhou Wenshu's gaze gradually deepened as he explained his plan in detail.
That evening, two petitions, one filed openly and one secretly, were sent to the capital.
Those in the open were intercepted before even leaving the city, while those in the shadows were escorted by two top assassins from the Phoenix Pavilion.
They were ambushed en route.
But as the saying goes, "the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind," Shen Qianxue sent others to ambush and wipe out all the enemy assassins.
The petition failed to stop them, and General Xu Zhou flew into a rage inside the city lord's mansion.
Look what you've done!
Lin Que was given a severe scolding.
"General, please calm down. They have no evidence. Even if they appeal to the capital, the Dali Temple will not accept the case!" Lin Que was still trying to defend his evil deeds.
Xu Zhou's anger only intensified. "How do you know they didn't find any evidence? Zhou Wenshu's backing is very powerful; they wiped out my elite ten-man squad!"
Moreover, even without evidence, if this news reaches the Emperor's ears or falls into the hands of Xu Zhou's enemies, it will bring great disadvantage to Xu Zhou.
Lin Que clenched his fists; he had underestimated Zhou Wenshu.
"General, rest assured, give me two days, and I will definitely resolve this matter," Lin Que promised.
