With a heavy heart, Su Jin came down to the edge of the forest.
Although it was the dead of winter, the forest remained lush and dense.
Shen Qianxue and the disciples of Phoenix Pavilion led the way, while Su Hu and the disciples of Liuli Society protected Su Jinxia and the nun and followed behind.
Fortunately, there were fewer mosquitoes in winter, and Shen Qianxue had scouted the route in advance and marked it, so everyone's journey went relatively smoothly.
I walked all day, and time seemed to pass very slowly.
"Ah Jin, are you alright? I'll carry you." Su Hu asked Su Jin the same question for the fifth time.
Su Jin slowly exhaled, forcing herself to stay upright.
To be honest, she hadn't walked this many miles in over half a year, and she didn't even realize she didn't have that much stamina left.
But Su Jinxia shook her head. "I can."
After walking for another hour, night finally fell.
The disciples skillfully started a fire, cooked, and set up tents, all with great efficiency and discipline.
Su Jin drank some hot soup but lost her appetite, so she went into her tent to rest alone.
Once inside the tent, with no one around, Su Jin clutched her aching chest and took a long time to recover.
After the stinging pain subsided, Su Jin lay down in bed, staring blankly into the darkness.
A moment later, the nun came in carrying a dim oil lamp.
The nun travels frequently and loves adventure, so entering and leaving such places is not difficult for her; she is even more energetic than some of her disciples.
The nun immediately touched Su Jinxia's wrist and took her pulse.
In the dim light, Su Jinxia saw her frown, then take out the medicine from her bosom and hand it to Su Jinxia.
Su Jin obediently ate it.
The nun didn't speak, but silently lay down next to Su Jinxia, turning her body to gently embrace her and give her warmth.
Su Jinxia's heart stirred slightly, and she reached out her slender arms to hug the nun.
"I thought the nun would scold me for being too stubborn."
The nun stroked Su Jin's hair. "Silly girl, how could that be? There are many things in this world that are more important than life and death."
For example, self-esteem.
For example, freedom.
For example, so many things...
Being with the nun always brought her peace of mind. With a smile on her face, Su Jin gradually drifted off to sleep.
Outside the tent, Shen Qianxue gazed at the figures huddled together for warmth under the lamplight, and a rare sense of peace settled over her.
Shen Qianxue, Su Hu, and many disciples took turns keeping watch, and the night passed peacefully.
However, this is only the edge of the forest; there is still a long way to go before the withered and flourishing trees.
The next day, as dawn broke, Shen Qianxue led several disciples to scout ahead.
After waking up, Su Jin rested and ate something with the nun before waiting for Shen Qianxue to return so they could set off together.
However, as dawn broke, the white fog grew thicker and thicker, quickly obstructing visibility.
Su Hu immediately went on alert, and all the disciples surrounded the nun and Su Jin.
"There's poison in the fog, everyone take your medicine." The nun quickly took out small pills and distributed them to everyone.
"Roar~"
Suddenly, a strange roar rang out, and it was extremely close.
But the surrounding white fog was so thick that it was impossible to see what was making the roar or how many there were.
"Roar~"
"Roar~"
One roar after another rang out, and there were quite a few of them.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a huge thing rushed towards the crowd. Su Hu kicked it away, and the thing made a loud thud as it crashed to the ground.
Su Hu shook his numb legs and shouted, "Be alert! Protect the master! Protect the nun!"
As Su Hu finished speaking, more big guys rushed over, and everyone had to fight back. Their formation gradually broke apart in the midst of the fighting.
"It looks like a person!"
Su Jin could vaguely see that the thing attacking them had long arms and legs.
Suddenly, Su Jinxia's arm was gripped tightly. Su Jinxia asked in confusion, "Master?"
The nun did not respond.
"Su Hu?" Su Jin asked again.
The roars from all around were deafening, and Su Jin's voice wasn't very clear, so no one answered her.
Su Jin suddenly realized that something was wrong.
"ah!"
Suddenly, Su Jin was dragged away with great force, and her petite body flew out.
"Ah Jin!"
Upon hearing Su Jin's scream, Su Hu immediately shouted anxiously.
"Brother Tiger!"
Su Jin was dragged along the ground, frantically calling out to Su Hu.
Su Hu kicked away the obstacle in front of him and ran wildly toward the source of the sound, but he only chased for a short distance before losing all contact with Su Jinxia.
"Ah Jin! Ah Jin! Answer me!" Su Hu panicked completely and shouted desperately.
However, there was no sound from Su Jinxia around.
Su Jinxia's arm was gripped by a pair of large, pincer-like hands, and the other person dragged Su Jinxia along, making her dizzy from the jolting.
Su Jin suddenly realized that this thing might be the legendary wild man who lived in this forest.
The fact that these wild men could survive in such a harsh environment speaks volumes about their strength and vitality.
Most importantly, savages are cannibals!
Wild men do not attack people without reason unless they are looking for food.
Fear surged into Su Jinxia's heart.
Su Jin gritted her teeth and used all her strength to stretch her arm to reach the short knife tucked in her leg.
"Sizzle!"
Su Jinxia finally drew her short knife and slashed fiercely at the hand that was holding her arm.
"Roar~"
The savage cried out in pain, its piercing roar echoing through the forest, as it mercilessly flung Su Jin away.
Su Jin flew a distance of ten feet before landing on the ground and rolling several times.
Here, the fog thinned, and Su Jin finally saw the huge thing.
