Chapter 1 She went to pick up trash again

The bell rang and she ran out of the classroom like a flash. Everyone looked at the door with disdain... There was only one thought in her mind.

Rodin went to pick up trash again.

Not a question, but an affirmation.

She used to be a gentle girl, but she has completely changed since she had a serious illness last time.

Picking up trash as soon as school is over every day... How useless and shameful.

A small figure next to the trash can was putting empty bottles one by one into the bag and folding the paper shells together.

She doesn't know what others think of her, nor does she care what others think of her.

After she fell ill, she cherished her present life more than anyone else. A good life must be created by oneself, and it is impossible to live without money!

A bottle costs one cent, and a pound of cardboard costs fifty cents. Although it is not much, it is also a way to make money.

The year was 1983. Many people's source of income was cultivating the one-third acre of land at home. Perhaps they didn't think about anything else?

Some people think that picking up trash is shameful, but for Rodin, this is an opportunity. The first thing he does after school every day is to pick up bottles and cardboard.

Then I took it to the recycling station in town and sold it.

It’s the same today. I’m lucky today. There are a lot of bottles and cardboard.

"Uncle, I'm here."

Dragging the heavy bag into the recycling station, Rodin gave the uncle a big smile.

"Xiao Dan is here. You've got a good harvest today. You should actually go collect the goods and trade them for something or buy them with money. It's much easier to make a profit than this."

The uncle said this because he really felt sorry for the girl. At such a young age, she already knows how to make money by picking up trash. How many children are still playing in the mud at home?

"I know, uncle. I'm going there on Sunday. It's going to cost a little money."

Rodin smiled, took out all the bottles from today, and finally earned two dollars.

Don’t underestimate these two dollars. There are many people who can only earn 20 or 30 dollars a month at this time.

"Yeah, that's right."

"Yeah, thank you, uncle."

After coming out of the recycling station, Rodin went home. It took him an hour and a half to walk from the medical town to his home.

Rodin was already familiar with it.

She met some classmates on the way, but they all looked at her with disgust.

"Don't be with her. She's so shameless. Picking up trash is so embarrassing."

Even her deskmate, who had always been nice to her, pretended not to see her.

Rodin didn't care, they were just a bunch of kids.

She used to care so much about what others thought of her, and ended up living a life of frustration. Now, she doesn't want to think about anything else and just wants to live happily and freely. With money in her pocket, she doesn't feel anxious.

No matter when, it is better to rely on yourself than on others.

After returning home, Rodin went to the kitchen to help cook. It was a simple meal of corn buns and some boiled cabbage.

Rodin's parents are farmers. They go out early and come back late every day to work for the corn and rice in the fields. The family's food and drink are not a problem, but the question is whether they have any savings.

Only my grandma knew that the financial power of the family lies in her hands and she has the final say on everything.

She has an older brother and a younger brother. Her brother is currently helping someone slaughter pigs, while she and her younger brother are still in the second year of junior high school.

After cooking, she went to call her grandmother.

My grandmother said that she should enjoy her life at the age of fifty. She does nothing at home, but she controls everything.

"Grandma, it's time to eat."

"Your brother is bringing his girlfriend home today. Go get some bacon and cook it. Only one piece is allowed. Don't eat anything secretly. I'll tell you how many slices you can cut. I know the limit."

The old lady is so calculating that she can clearly plan how many slices a piece of meat is cut into.
