Chapter 17 A Doting Gaze

The man, lost in lust, breathed his hot, scorching breath into my nostrils.

He froze when he heard me say "see you".

In the dim light, I could clearly see the two burning desires in his deep eyes, which were extinguished in an instant.

Sure enough, that sentence was like a trump card.

In an instant, he lost all desire for me.

Last time it was Shi Xia, this time it's a child.

He stared at me blankly, his eyes dark and gloomy. I looked back at him, the corners of my lips slowly curving upwards in a sarcastic smile.

He clearly stopped his beastly act.

My chest felt heavy and painful, with a faint sense of loss and resentment.

"Sheng Qiaoqiao..."

He looked at me, called my name softly, hesitated, and then quickly got out of bed.

I rolled over and curled up.

Soon, I heard the sound of the sliding door to the balcony.

Fu Yanshen went to the balcony outside.

I closed my eyes and forced myself to fall asleep, but I just couldn't.

My mind is a jumbled mess, filled with painful memories of the past...

After an unknown amount of time, the large bed sank, and Fu Yanshen returned, bringing with him the chill of the night and a strong smell of tobacco.

I didn't continue the futile struggle with him.

Soon I was lost in a bizarre and fantastical dream...

I knelt on the damp, moldy, and dilapidated floor, my arms were tied behind my back, and my mouth was sealed with black duct tape.

The blond, blue-eyed kidnapper with a full beard pointed a gun at me.

He spoke in a thick London accent, "Little beauty, don't blame us, someone wants you dead."

"Such a beautiful Asian girl, what a pity..."

"Stop talking nonsense, bearded man, shoot!"

I closed my eyes tightly, held my breath, hunched my shoulders, trembled all over, and waited desperately for death to come.

I also prayed that the shot wouldn't miss, because I was afraid that if I wasn't completely dead, I would feel pain.

I waited for a long time, but instead of gunshots, I heard a cacophony of wails and fighting sounds.

When I opened my eyes again, all the kidnappers were lying on the ground.

Someone helped me up from the floor. I was unsteady and landed in a strong and reassuring chest.

"Miss, I am someone sent by President Sheng."

I looked up, and the incomparably handsome man said this.

There are also some fragmented images.

On campus, I was harassed by white people; in the streets and alleys, my bag was snatched; in the chaotic streets of Europe, stray bullets were flying everywhere...

In every fragment, there is a man who sheltered me.

"Fu Yanshen, thank you. This watch is for you. I had to order it for a long time before I could get it."

"Young Miss, protecting you is simply my duty."

...

It's just a duty, but I'm obsessed with that safe and secure embrace.

In my dreams, I was always enveloped by this sense of security.

When I woke up, it still felt so real.

I was in a daze for a long time before I realized that I was curled up in Fu Yanshen's arms.

I gently tilted my head up and met a pair of doting eyes filled with smiles.

It must be my imagination, I'm not fully awake yet.

I blinked and saw that he looked impatient.

That's right, that's the real Fu Yanshen.

"Get up, you're pressing on my arm..." His brows furrowed with impatience, and his voice was cold.

He was angry that I used his arm as a pillow.

I silently got up, threw off the covers, and got out of bed.

While it was still early, I washed up and got dressed, then headed straight to the kitchen to make breakfast for my dad.

...

"I am fortunate to have Yan Shen."

My dad drank the millet porridge I had simmered in a clay pot over a low flame, and smiled as he looked at Fu Yanshen.

"Dad, I made this breakfast especially for you."

He still thought I was cooking for Fu Yanshen every day, like before.

“If it weren’t for Yan Shen, would you, someone who’s never lifted a finger in the kitchen and is so pampered, even know how to cook?” my dad said again.

"Before you got married, you probably didn't even know how to boil an egg, right? Now, this millet porridge you've cooked has a thick layer of rice oil on it, better than the cook in the house." The old man said as he scooped up the thick, golden porridge with a spoon.

I glanced at Fu Yanshen across the table.

He was eating his porridge at a leisurely pace.

He has a bad stomach; he developed stomach problems from drinking alcohol during social engagements.

I heard that millet porridge is the best for the stomach, so I followed cooking videos to learn how to make it and cooked for him myself.

The food outside is too oily and salty, so I learned to cook... I practically raised him like a son.

The problem is, they don't appreciate it.

"Dad, if you like it, I'll make it for you often from now on."

In my past life, I was so focused on Fu Yanshen that I never properly took care of my parents, and they were even dragged down by my love-struck mind.

In this lifetime, I want to take good care of them.

"No need for that. I have plenty of cooks. Your cooking skills are nothing compared to what you've said."

My dad was talking while watching Fu Yanshen, who was eating with great relish.

I:……

"Qiaoqiao, just live your life with Yan Shen well, and I'll be content," he said earnestly.

My dad left after only a few bites.

"Your dad doesn't appreciate your efforts at all; he just wants you to keep me calm."

When only Fu Yanshen and I were left in the restaurant, he suddenly said something.

He probably couldn't stand seeing our father-daughter relationship being good, so he was trying to sow discord between us.

That person is absolutely despicable.

He clearly can't leave my home.

I rolled my eyes at him.

He didn't even look up, just kept eating the breakfast I made, and seemed to have a good appetite. It didn't seem like Lin Xiao had said that he had a stomach ailment.

I said goodbye to my dad in a sweet and intimate way with Fu Yanshen. As soon as I left the yard, I left him behind, got into my car, and drove away.
