The man's warm fingers pinched the back of my neck, lifting me from the chair like a pet, forcing me to tilt my face up and face him.
I took several deep breaths to relieve the dizziness.
"Fu Yanshen, what's wrong with you now?" I regained my strength and angrily questioned him.
His face was ashen, his thin lips pressed into a straight line, and his eyes were fixed on me.
"Who gave you the right to reveal Shi Xia and Lu Ming's relationship to the police on your own? Now that everyone knows, how is she supposed to face anyone after this?"
He spoke, coldly accusing me.
It turns out he was upset about his precious childhood sweetheart, which is why he snapped at me.
He actually protected that disgusting woman like she was the apple of his eye.
I thought he had already fallen for Shi Xia.
"She did something so disgusting, and I'm not even allowed to talk about it? Besides, I didn't use a loudspeaker to announce that she was having an affair with a married man, did I?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat and raised my voice in a sarcastic tone.
"Furthermore, what's wrong with me providing the police with the information I have? It's my civic duty!"
Fu Yanshen's face darkened and he released my neck, looking extremely impatient.
"What information do you think you have?"
He took out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, lit it, and spoke with a disdainful tone.
I adjusted my posture and exhaled a sigh of relief.
“I caught them having an affair once and heard it with my own ears. My cousin also told me this later. Shi Xia had always known about his embezzlement of public funds. She was the one who helped him avoid the financial audit. They were in cahoots.”
Upon hearing this, Fu Yanshen looked at me and curled his lips into a smile. "Sheng Qiaoqiao, do you think the company's supervision is a joke? If Shi Xia did that, we would have exposed her when we cooperated with the police investigation a few days ago!"
He refuted me.
"What I said is true, or perhaps Shi Xia has the means to clear herself of any wrongdoing," I replied confidently.
Fu Yanshen took the ashtray, flicked the ash off his cigarette, and sneered, "What reason do you think Shi Xia has to betray me and collude with that Lu Ming?"
His tone was sarcastic.
The implication was that Shi Xia could not possibly betray him and help her cousin steal money from the company.
“Because she blackmailed Lu Ming and conspired with him to frame me. It was the time when Lu Ming sexually harassed her. They plotted against me together.” I looked him straight in the eye and said seriously.
Fu Yanshen glanced at me indifferently. "Sheng Qiaoqiao, you've lied so much that you can't even remember what you said. Do you want me to help you remember?"
His tone was extremely sarcastic.
I know what he meant was that I personally admitted that I had instructed Lu Ming to harass Shi Xia that time.
"At that time, I didn't know Lu Ming's true colors. I took the blame for him because my cousin's wife was heavily pregnant." I looked at him and told the belated truth.
Just thinking about this makes me feel aggrieved.
He still believes that I asked Lu Ming to harass Shi Xia.
"What a joke! Would the arrogant and domineering Miss Sheng allow herself to suffer such a loss in silence?" He sneered, mocking me.
Even now, he still doesn't believe me, blindly believing in and protecting Shi Xia.
“Fu Yanshen, I’m telling the truth! My cousin had already promised to tell you everything. He didn’t want to die at all, but he suddenly jumped off a building. I suspect Shi Xia killed him to cover it up!”
"Now that my cousin is dead, there's no way to verify anything!"
I vehemently refuted him.
Upon hearing this, Fu Yanshen's temple veins suddenly bulged. He forcefully stubbed out his cigarette, stretched out his long arm, grabbed the back of my head with his large hand, and pulled me toward him.
The man gripped my chin with his thumb and forefinger, his handsome, livid face oppressing me.
"Sheng Qiaoqiao, I'm warning you one more time, don't slander Shi Xia again." His tone was cold and full of anger.
Seeing the way he looked like he wanted to kill me, a chill ran down my spine. Then I heard him say:
"As for your cousin, he deserved to die."
Hearing this, I felt a chill run down my spine.
Fu Yanshen released me, and my body slumped into the chair. A chill ran through my body from my heart, and I felt cold both physically and mentally.
He deserved to die.
His words kept echoing in my mind, as if my brain was sending me a signal—
My cousin was killed by Fu Yanshen.
I couldn't help but shiver, and my teeth chattered.
My whole body went numb and cold.
I don't know how much time passed before I finally calmed down a bit.
Fu Yanshen had already gotten out of the car to wait for his precious childhood sweetheart.
I hugged myself tightly, speechless with emotion.
Or was I just too naive!
I actually thought he was infatuated with Shi Xia, but it turns out that not only did he not hate her, but out of jealousy, he quietly got rid of her lover.
That's true, how could he possibly dislike Shi Xia?
They were a couple in their past lives, and no matter what happened along the way, the ending will not change.
I never expected that he loved Shi Xia so deeply, to the point of being crazy and obsessive.
Recalling his warning to me, I belatedly felt a sense of fear.
I'm really afraid that he'll kill me in order to protect Shi Xia.
Shi Xia is his bottom line.
I just argued with him so confidently, saying so many bad things about Shi Xia, really pushing my luck on his bottom line.
If I weren't still of some use to him, he would have killed me long ago.
I got out of his car as if I were fleeing.
...
Two days later, the police issued a death certificate, and as expected, Lu Ming died by suicide by jumping off a building.
There were no rumors or gossip about his death; all that was known was that he was suspected of economic crimes involving a large sum of money and committed suicide out of fear of punishment.
At the funeral, I kept thinking, if I hadn't taken revenge on Fu Yanshen and Shi Xia, would my cousin have survived?
In the end, I indirectly harmed him.
At that moment, there seemed to be a commotion outside the mourning hall. I kept my head down, not lifting my eyelids, and held my cousin's hand tightly beside me.
"A bow!"
"A second bow!"
"Three bows!"
Some people came to pay their respects in front of their cousin's portrait.
"I am sorry for your loss."
A familiar male voice rang out above my head, carrying a hint of cold indifference.
"Thank you, Mr. Fu."
The cousin-in-law, who was kept in the dark, said gratefully.
"Cola, come here and call him uncle."
"Hello, Uncle."
Listening to the attitude of the mother and son towards him, I felt very ironic. I clenched my hands tightly, swayed, and leaned back.
Just then, an arm caught my lower back.
"What happened?"
When I looked up, I met the man's deeply etched face, his brow furrowed.
“President Fu, since Lu Ming’s accident, Qiao Qiao has been with me. She hardly eats or drinks, and spends her nights keeping vigil with Kele at the mourning hall. She refuses to go to sleep, and she won’t listen to any advice I give her.”
"You should try to persuade her."
"Sister-in-law, I'm not tired." I snapped out of my daze, quickly broke free from Fu Yanshen, and didn't even glance at him.
The next instant, my feet were dangling in the air as Fu Yanshen scooped me up in his arms and carried me out of the mourning hall.
