Chapter 41
As Jiang Zhuoyan entered the door, she smelled the faint aroma of food.
She looked up and saw a familiar slender figure in the spacious open kitchen.
The man turned around at the sound, his eyes curved when he saw her, and a gentle smile appeared on his face. "You're back."
Chen Fengni was wearing loose home clothes. The sunset light cast a gentle golden edge on her profile. The pot on the stove behind her was emitting wisps of steam, which blurred the smile on her face.
It is the most common fireworks in the world.
The scene that I dared not even imagine in my dreams has now become a daily occurrence.
Jiang Zhuoyan's eyes felt slightly sore, and she wished she could walk up to him right now, hug the person she had been thinking about day and night, and tell him that she missed her very much, every day.
But not yet.
So she just smiled softly and put the small box on the dining table. "I bought a matcha cake. It's not sweet."
"Okay, let's eat together after dinner." Chen Fengni stirred the food in the pot with a long-handled wooden spoon and said apologetically, "I got off the air a little late today, so I didn't have time to prepare anything. I only made beef curry."
Jiang Zhuoyan said, "It's already very good."
She paused, then casually added, "First day back live streaming, is everything going well?"
Shen Fengni blinked, as if thinking about something.
"It went pretty smoothly." After a moment, she answered truthfully, "Yu Qian came and caused some trouble, but it was resolved in the end. It didn't have much of an impact."
To say that it has no impact is actually not accurate.
After deducting the platform's share from Yu Qian and Zhezhi's spending, she could pocket about 100,000 RMB. This figure was already quite impressive for Shen Fengni, exceeding her combined income from livestreaming in the previous few months.
Moreover, the platform's promotion also helped her gain a lot of fans. Several fan groups were constantly joining, and the managers were chatting enthusiastically with the newcomers, and the news never stopped.
After living a new life, Shen Fengni had very little desire for material things, but the money she earned today did help her out in an emergency.
She planned to use the money to rent a suitable house and then buy Jiang Zhuoyan an expensive gift as a token of her gratitude.
Jiang Zhuoyan didn't ask any more questions: "That's good."
When she went upstairs to change her clothes, she glanced in the direction of Shen Fengni. She was typing on her phone with a focused expression.
Then Jiang Zhuoyan's phone vibrated slightly.
Feng Ni: I’m getting ready to eat, so let’s stop chatting.
Feng Ni: See you at the game tonight
Jiang Zhuoyan's heartbeat suddenly accelerated. She looked at the two lines of words and felt a little uneasy.
She walked quickly into the bedroom and locked the door from the inside, then she breathed a sigh of relief and took out her cell phone.
Zhezhi: Got it. Eat well.
Zhezhi: See you later.
When I changed my clothes and went downstairs, two servings of curry rice were already on the table, steaming hot.
Perhaps Chen Fengni felt that the dishes were too monotonous, so she also made a vegetable salad and washed some fresh fruit to cut.
In fact, there is no need to go to such great lengths.
Jiang Zhuoyan looked at her busy back and thought to himself.
As long as she is with Chen Fengni, she is happy no matter what she eats.
"Come and have dinner." Shen Fengni greeted Jiang Zhuoyan with a smile when she saw her coming down. "Would you like something to drink? We have juice, soda, and wine."
After spending a few days together, the atmosphere between her and Jiang Zhuoyan became more casual and no longer as polite as it was at the beginning.
She felt like she was visiting a friend's house and felt much more relaxed.
Jiang Zhuoyan thought for a moment and said, "Juice, please."
The drinks were bought by Shen Fengni the last time she went to the supermarket. They were arranged in two rows in the refrigerator. Jiang Zhuoyan didn't particularly like drinks, and they were dispensable, but every time she opened the refrigerator and saw them, she would be in a good mood.
The abundant food in the refrigerator that was replenished in time, the cute ornaments everywhere, the coat belonging to another person on the hanger... everything reminded her that Shen Fengni was by her side and she was no longer alone.
While eating, Shen Fengni couldn't help but share what happened in the afternoon.
Originally, she just wanted to briefly talk about what happened, but Jiang Zhuoyan was such a qualified listener that she couldn't stop herself and started talking.
"...Later, Zhezhi said, 'Do you want to go alone, or should I take you there?' She was so domineering, I almost wondered if she was some kind of domineering CEO."
"With things getting to this point, Yu Qian was too embarrassed to stay any longer and left without saying a word. From what I know about her, she probably won't be coming back in the near future."
"I really want to see what expression Yu Qian had on her face at that time."
Chen Fengni's eyes sparkled with a smile as she gestured with her hands, "And Zhezhi's post at the time was a supreme comment, the kind that stayed at the top of the livestream for 30 seconds, so everyone could see it clearly."
After two lifetimes, this was the first time she had heard the word "broken branch" from Shen Fengni's mouth. Subtle emotions spread wantonly, like a huge rock thrown into a lake, causing ripples in her heart.
Jiang Zhuoyan took a sip of orange juice to hide the unnatural expression on her face.
She commented: "It was wonderful, but it's a pity I wasn't there."
"It's okay. If there's something fun happening next time, I'll secretly call you over to watch the fun."
Chen Fengni was amused by her own thoughts, the corners of her lips curled up, and she turned to praise Zhezhi, "It's a good thing Zhezhi is here today, otherwise I don't know how this would end."
It was Zhezhi who turned a farce into a refreshing story. Because the plot was extremely comfortable, some people even suspected that it was a script designed in advance.
Jiang Zhuoyan paused holding the spoon and suddenly asked, "Are you and Zhezhi close?"
"If we talk about our relationship..." Chen Fengni tilted her head, choosing her words carefully. "I consider Zhezhi a very important friend, but I don't know how she sees me."
Jiang Zhuoyan's eyes softened slightly and he lowered his head to avoid her gaze.
She whispered, "You must be very important to her, too."

"Dealing with the cancellation of the engagement will probably take up a lot of my energy, so my livestream schedule won't be very regular lately, and I won't have much time to play games with you."
Chen Fengni looked into the eyes of the white-robed heroine and said apologetically, "You've seen that my ex-fiancée is a very difficult person."
The sky is still clear over the rivers and lakes, and beneath the blue sky are rolling mountains, lush and green, full of vitality.
The sun shines on the soft lawn, with unknown flowers interspersed among them, colorful as if a paint can had been overturned.
"Take care of your own business first, it's fine with me."
Zhezhi shook his head and said gently, "I'm here in the live broadcast room, so nothing will go wrong. If there's anything else you need help with, just let me know."
Seeing Zhezhi's consideration for her, Shen Fengni felt she had nothing to offer in return. In all their time together, Zhezhi's only request was to play games together, something she couldn't fulfill.
She said guiltily, "Once I'm done with this, I'll be able to go online anytime."
Zhezhi said, "Okay, but don't be in a hurry. Take your time."
The wind blew gently, and the veil stuck to her face, revealing a hint of a smile.
Shen Fengni responded and asked, "Are there any other tasks you want to do?"
The time spent playing games with Zhezhi always passed very quickly. Before I knew it, it was almost midnight, and it was almost time for the two of them to log off.
Zhezhi was silent for a moment, then brought up the topic again, "Marriage mission."
Shen Fengni was stunned for a moment, "Nothing else?"
Zhezhi said, "No."
Her tone was stubborn, like a child who insisted on having something. Even if others wanted to use other things as a substitute, they would be rejected outright.
People who are usually cold and aloof can look very cute when they show this childish side.
Shen Fengni was amused and was about to speak when she heard the child's additional explanation: "I know it's not possible now, but I just want to remind you not to forget."
"I haven't forgotten, I haven't forgotten." Shen Fengni softened her tone unconsciously and made a joke, "Do you really want your partner's exclusive pendant and outerwear so badly? You won't divorce me immediately after getting them, will you?"
Zhezhi's expression paused for a moment, then he suddenly looked up at her with deep eyes.
She said, “No.”
"What's wrong with you?" Shen Fengni looked at Zhezhi's suddenly serious expression and thought that she had said something wrong and made him angry. "I was just joking, don't be upset."
A few birds flew lightly over the branches, causing the leaves to tremble slightly and the mottled light and shadows on the ground to sway.
She heard Zhezhi's voice: "What if I said it wasn't for some exclusive pendant."
Shen Fengni's heart also trembled, and a sour and astringent feeling surged up, making her chest feel stuffy.
She opened her mouth and whispered, "That's..."
"It's getting late, let's log off and rest."
Zhezhi interrupted her and returned to his calm expression, as if nothing had happened just now.
She said, "Good night, have a sweet dream."
After coming out of the game cabin and returning to the bedroom, Shen Fengni sat on the bed in a daze for a long time.
She is an adult with emotional experience. Even if she was a little confused at the time, she could understand the meaning of Zhezhi's words after calming down.
Chen Fengni knew very well that she had feelings for Zhezhi, but because she was busy with her engagement, she had no time to think about it.
But didn't Zhezhi have someone he loved in his previous life? Could it be that he hasn't met her yet?
So if Zhezhi meets that person in the future, will he regret completing the marriage mission with her?
What should she do then?
A mess of thoughts popped up one after another, and Shen Fengni felt that his brain was not enough.
"Boom, boom."
There was a light knock on the door, which brought Shen Fengni out of her tangled thoughts.
She opened the door, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
"Mr. Jiang?"
Jiang Zhuoyan stood at the door, wearing a V-neck silk nightgown, revealing a small patch of snow-white skin at her neck. The dress had a nice drape, swaying softly at the knees.
She asked, "Did I disturb your rest?"
"No, I haven't lain down yet." Shen Fengni immediately denied it and asked, "Why are you here so late? Is there something urgent?"
Her gaze shifted, sweeping across Jiang Zhuoyan's slightly messy long hair and slightly tilted neckline, and she became even more curious.
Jiang Zhuoyan now looked as if he had just crawled out of bed and ran over to find her.
She couldn't think of anything that could make the usually calm Jiang Zhuoyan behave like this.
Soon, Shen Fengni got the answer.
"Just now, I received a message from Xu Weiyi."
Jiang Zhuoyan unlocked her phone and showed the text message dialog box on the screen to Shen Fengni. "She said she has thought about it and is willing to talk to us."
