Chapter 107 Facing the Challenge

Xiao Yujian recalled seven years ago, "Ever since my brother left, my mother has been bedridden. At first, I visited her every day, talked with her, comforted each other, and encouraged each other. My brother was only temporarily leaving the capital for Northern Qi and would be back in a few years. He was so smart that he wouldn't be bullied."

"At that time, I wanted to be with my mother every day. Seeing her illness getting worse and worse, I was extremely worried and fell ill myself. When my condition stabilized a little, my grandfather and his family came to visit my mother and even left a female doctor with her to take care of her."

"I remember very clearly that after my grandparents came to visit my mother, her temperament changed. She became very cold towards me. She no longer comforted me or loved me like before. She only blamed me."

Xiao Yujian still felt sad when he thought about the situation back then. "Later, when I went there again, my mother wouldn't see me anymore, not even my father. Without her permission, I wasn't allowed to set foot in her yard. The doctor said that my mother's condition was recurring and she needed to rest, so we shouldn't disturb her."

"My mother didn't come out. She just kept saying cruel things in the house. She said she wanted to recover from her illness and wait for my brother to come back. She said my father was cruel and sent his best son as a hostage just to kill her. She asked why it wasn't me, why my brother."

Xiao Yujian was sad for a long time and his condition became worse and worse. However, he wanted to find his mother to explain, so he asked the servant to get a ladder and secretly climb into his mother's yard.

Xiao Yujian sneered, "Brother, do you know what I saw? I saw my mother, full of energy and with a rosy complexion, humming a song in the room. She didn't look sick at all. She wasn't sad, she was very happy."

Amu's heart tightened, "You weren't discovered by them at that time, right?"

"I was discovered when I was leaving, but I said I had just climbed to the top of the wall and wanted to go in to see my mother." Xiao Yujian was thankful that he was in such a sad mood at the time that his mind was still clear, so he lied, "They scolded me and sent me back.

After that, my mother asked my father to send me to Lingshan with a very firm attitude, as if I had to live in this family without her.”

Xiao Yujian leaned on Amu's shoulder and said, "Brother, I'm not sad anymore since I started doubting mother. I just miss you so much. I have a lot to tell you."

Amu felt sorry for his younger brother, a six-year-old child who needed the care and love of his family, but he was sent to Lingshan and lived alone for seven years.

"Ajian, you have suffered so much over the years. It's because I was useless and failed to protect you."

"Brother, don't say that. You have no choice. Even if you don't tell me, I know that your life in Northern Qi must be very difficult and hard." Xiao Yujian said, "Father sends so many things to Northern Qi every year, but he says that very little reaches you. I know you are not doing well."

It's not just bad, it's hell on earth.

Ah Mu said, "It's all in the past. The most important thing is now, we have to make things clear."

Ah Mu told his brother that he had escaped from Northern Qi and disguised himself as a beggar at the gate of Duke Dingguo's mansion. He also mentioned his mother's attitude towards him. "Now that I think about it, she shouldn't be our mother. I was so anxious to see you, firstly to tell you that I'm still alive, and secondly because I was afraid that you would be harmed by that woman, so I wanted you to be more vigilant."

"I didn't expect you to have noticed something was wrong so early. That surprised me. They thought you were young and easy to fool. They didn't know you were so observant."

Xiao Yujian's mood brightened up, "It's all thanks to my brother's good teaching."

"That's great! After going through so much hardship, you're still so outgoing." Seeing that his brother didn't become depressed, Amu was happy for him. "Don't show any signs when you go back. Keep your distance from her. I guess everyone in her compound has problems."

"Brother, I know." Xiao Yujian's breathing became smoother, and he sat up straight. "However, we can't let her continue to roam freely in the Duke Dingguo Mansion. We must let father know and arrest them."

"Well, father can only give him some pointers and let him discover the problem himself." Amu said, "Originally, the female doctor was brought to the mansion by the Shunyang Marquis. Later, the woman became estranged from father and wouldn't let him get close. I'm afraid she was afraid he would discover the problem. She often stays at the Shunyang Marquis' mansion, which means there are problems there as well."

Xiao Yujian said bitterly, "These people are truly despicable. They destroyed our family and now want to overthrow the entire court."

"I can't take care of other things for now. Let's get rid of the spies in our house first. As for Shunyang Marquis Mansion, hand it over to father when the time comes." His parents have a deep relationship. If anything happens to his mother, he will not let Shunyang Marquis Mansion go.

Amu didn't understand. His mother was their biological daughter. How could they have the heart to do such a cruel thing? Even a tiger wouldn't eat its own cubs.

Xiao Yujian said, "Perhaps they are spies that Northern Qi had planted in Jing Dynasty a long time ago. Mother is just their pawn. If this pawn doesn't obey, then we have no choice but to get rid of it."

Yes, their parents had a deep bond, and their mother loved them very much, so how could she bear to hurt them? She was murdered because of them.

The brothers were heartbroken. Regardless of their mother's status, she was the one they loved and respected the most. They had killed their mother, and this vengeance must be avenged.

The two brothers of the Su family, who had been listening for a long time, lamented the difficulties faced by the two brothers. Northern Qi had wolfish ambitions, and they were not the only ones who suffered.

Su Jinrui said, "I didn't know about this before, but now I know. Don't worry, I will help you investigate secretly."

"Thank you, brother."

Ah Mu asked Su Jinyao, "I have to ask my second brother to tell my father about Linlang's presence in the capital, so that he can come and ask Linlang to treat Ah Jian as soon as possible."

Su Jinyao patted his chest and said, "Leave it to me, it's a small problem."

The two brothers talked for a while. It was getting late and the dew was heavy. Ah Mu was worried about his brother's health. "We will have many opportunities to meet in the future. Let's stop here today. Ah Jian, go back and rest."

"Brother, take care."

"You too, protect yourself."

Amu hugged his younger brother, and the two brothers said goodbye reluctantly and were each sent back by the Su brothers.

After returning, Amu and Xiao Yujian had trouble falling asleep. It felt unreal that the two brothers actually met.

They were all thankful that they were alive.

Ah Mu rested his head on Linlang's shoulder. "My dear, I have never been so grateful. Thank God for letting me meet you. Thank you for saving my life. It is because of you that I have the opportunity to see my family and take responsibility for you and your son."

Linlang said softly, "Our meeting is all fate. We had such a hard time before, so God took pity on us and decided to compensate us. You have to cheer up, because you have a tough battle ahead."

"Yes." At this point, we must face the challenge head-on. This chapter has been read (please click on the next chapter to continue reading!)
