Chapter 36 The County Magistrate Arrives

The young couple had lunch at the villa before returning. On the way, they discussed buying an ox cart so that they would have more convenience in traveling in the future.

From a distance, they saw a lot of people gathered at the door, including the county yamen runners. The two looked at each other and wondered if a big case had happened and they were here to take their father to the county town to solve it?

The two of them hurried to the door and looked inside. It was the county magistrate, who was talking to the old man in a friendly manner.

Are all county magistrates so approachable?

Rong Bowen saw Linlang and Amu and quickly waved them in. "Master Zhao, this is my daughter Linlang and my son-in-law Xiao Yushu."

"I greet you, sir."

"The student has met the adults."

"Excuse me, excuse me." Lord Zhao raised his hand and asked them to sit down and talk, but his eyes were fixed on Amu, looking him carefully.

Finally, his gaze stopped at Amu's face. Lord Zhao was visibly excited. "It's truly an amazing skill. There are no scars on his face anymore. He looks just like a normal person."

A young man standing next to him muttered quietly, "What? Normal people, no different? Obviously, better looking."

Lord Zhao glanced at him and introduced him to Linlang and Amu with a smile, "This is my son Zhao Yuning."

Then he scolded Zhao Yuning, "Why don't you come over and see the miracle doctor?"

Zhao Yuning bowed to Linlang, "Hello, female doctor."

Linlang quickly returned the gift, knowing that Lord Zhao was bringing his son to see him for a checkup.

At first, Lord Zhao didn't believe that a woman could have such excellent medical skills and could restore a burned person's appearance to its original state. After seeing Amu, he believed that his son's stuttering could be cured.

Soon, the people at the door were driven away, and they were the only ones left in the house. Lord Zhao stated the purpose of his visit, "Doctor Rong, do you think there is any hope of curing my son's stuttering?"

Linlang would not arbitrarily say whether it could be cured or not. "Let me take a look at Mr. Zhao's condition first."

The examination results showed that the meridians under Mr. Zhao's tongue were adhered and he needed a minor surgery. "After the surgery, Mr. Zhao will need to practice, but I don't know if he can endure the hardship."

When Zhao Yuning heard that he could be saved, he immediately said, "Don't worry, doctor, I can endure the hardship."

It is better to endure hardship than to be laughed at for stuttering.

Lord Zhao followed suit, "Don't worry, Doctor Rong, we will all follow your instructions. Just tell us what you need us to do."

It was just a minor operation, so there weren't any instructions required. Linlang asked Zhao Yuning to stay there first, and she would treat him when she was ready.

Of course, even minor surgeries have risks, and patients and their families must be informed and have a signed consent form.

Linlang dictated and Amu wrote, and soon two copies of the consent form were placed in front of Lord Zhao. He hesitated.

When Zhao Yuning was still young, the doctor had examined him. The adhesion was so severe that he couldn't move freely, otherwise he might become mute.

It's better to stutter than to be dumb. He only has this one son.

"Dad, I believe in Dr. Rong's medical skills. Please sign it."

Zhao Yuning has made up his mind. "I've been laughed at and bullied for my stuttering since I was a child. I've had enough. If anything goes wrong, I won't blame you or Doctor Rong. It's just my bad luck, and I accept it calmly."

Lord Zhao knew his son's pain very well. He had sought medical help everywhere over the years, but they all said the same thing: Rong Linlang was their last hope.

"Okay, I'll sign."

Lord Zhao and his son stayed in the town, and Linlang was scheduled to have surgery tomorrow.

Zhao Yuning and the Rong family were in a very calm mood, eating and sleeping well. Only Lord Zhao couldn't eat or sleep. When he finally made it to the next day, he looked haggard.

After doing a good job of disinfection, it only took two or three cuts to kill Zhao Yuning. It was so fast that both Lord Zhao and Zhao Yuning felt like they were dreaming. Is it over already?

Linlang gave Zhao Yuning several packets of medicine and the doctor's instructions. "Take the medicine as directed. Follow the doctor's instructions strictly. If you're worried, you can stay here for a few days for observation."

"Then I'll stay here for a few days to observe." Zhao Yuning was eager to stay. "Thank you, doctor, for taking me in."

Then he said to Lord Zhao, "Father is busy with official duties, so please go back first. I will go back when I am better."

Lord Zhao knew that it would be safer for his son to stay here with Divine Doctor Rong taking care of him than to go back with him. "Okay, then you can stay, but you must follow Divine Doctor Rong's instructions."

Lord Zhao bowed to Rong Bowen and Linlang, "I'm sorry to have caused you so much trouble."

"It's not a trouble, not a trouble." Rong Bowen didn't dare to say it was a trouble, because he had to serve his immediate boss's son well.

Master Zhao had to pay for the consultation and medicine, as well as Zhao Yuning's living expenses, in the amount of eight taels of silver. Linlang accepted a note for five taels of silver. They couldn't let him think that medical skills were worthless.

It just so happened that Chen Dong returned to the county town today, and the wing room was vacant for Zhao Yuning to live in.

After Zhao Yuning sent Lord Zhao away, his true colors were revealed. He was a face control and thought that this family was too good-looking. Even the little Mo'er was so pretty and cute.

Since Linlang was a girl, he didn't dare to get close to her. Amu and Mo'er became the ones he followed. After knowing that they were literate and that Amu was going to take the Tongsheng exam, every time he tried to get close to them, it became asking about their studies.

However, they were really discussing the imperial examination, and the three members of the Rong family did not disturb them.

Three days later, Linlang handed Zhao Yuning a few clean pebbles and said, "From now on, keep them in your mouth when you talk or read. Take them out when you eat, drink, or sleep. They might scratch your mouth, so be prepared."

"Doctor Rong, as long as you can cure me, I can endure the hardship." He was going to take the imperial examination. How could an official who stuttered and had no prestige convince the people?
