Zhu Jiayu smiled and said, "Jiayu is very grateful for your kindness, but—" She changed the subject and looked distressed, "Looking at the dishes in front of me, I suddenly remembered the crystal eggs I had in Heling, and I can't help but miss them."
Someone else chimed in, "That's no problem at all. Miss Zhu, please wait a moment, and I'll have someone go and find a chef in Heling to make these crystal eggs for you."
The man speaking was confident and composed, as if there was nothing he couldn't accomplish in Heling. Indeed, he had the confidence to back it up; his family owned two mines, making him incredibly wealthy with inexhaustible resources.
His family background meant there was nothing he couldn't do; after all, money makes the world go round, let alone something as simple as making a small crystal egg.
However, Zhu Jiayu only managed a forced smile and explained, "I doubt even an ordinary chef could make this dish. I did hear about the recipe at my uncle's house. First, you use the broth of a large bluefish, along with chicken, duck, ham, fish maw, sea cucumber, shark fin, bird's nest, and the like, and simmer it until it's very thick. Then you filter out the fine residue, and boil the remaining broth into a paste. Next, you make a small hole in an egg, pour out the egg liquid, and clean the inside with silk floss. You coat the inside of the eggshell with sesame oil, put the previously cooked meat broth inside, seal it, and then put it in a well to chill overnight. Only after these complicated steps can you make a crystal egg."
Upon hearing this, the smiles on the faces of the crowd instantly turned slightly cold.
This is just one dish, yet it requires so many precious ingredients, which shows how picky Miss Zhu's taste is. It is said that one should marry a virtuous wife. If one were to marry such a woman, it is likely that she would squander all the family's wealth within a few years.
But she wasn't finished yet. After a while, she spoke again: "However, I know that this may be a small matter for you gentlemen. But this crystal egg has extraordinary significance for me. I once ate this dish, which my aunt made for my uncle in Heling. They were originally a family-arranged marriage, and they were not in love at first. Later, my aunt cooked this dish for my uncle, and their relationship gradually grew closer, eventually becoming an enviable couple."
"Later, I made a vow before Buddha that in this life I would find a husband who could cook crystal eggs for me, otherwise I would never eat this dish again. So, even if you gentlemen have a way to find a chef to cook for me, please forgive me, I cannot accept your kindness."
Pretentious.
That's so pretentious.
After she finished speaking, the remaining few who hadn't backed down all shook their heads inwardly. How could they dare to marry her if she was so pretentious?
