Chapter Nine: There are plenty of ways to make their lives impossible.

After the banquet, the Zhu family embroidery workshop became famous, and almost everyone in Suiping City with connections knew that the Zhu family had hired a highly skilled embroiderer.

In no time, orders from various fabric and clothing shops poured into Zhu Family Embroidery Workshop like snowflakes.

Meanwhile, inside Jingyue Pavilion.

Wei Shenglan poured a cup of tea and handed it to Zhu Congjian with both hands: "Brother Zhu, to be fair, I've been extremely kind and righteous to you. Don't blame me for what happened the other day; everyone needs to eat, right?"

Zhu Congjian looked at him indifferently, without making a comment.

He was drinking tea in the courtyard when he suddenly received an invitation from Wei Shenglan.

And then this scene unfolded.

Just a few days ago, when the embroidery workshop was facing financial difficulties, he was still firm in his attitude and spoke without any reservations when he went to Wei Shenglan for help. However, in a short period of time, he suddenly changed his attitude, which made Zhu Congjian wary.

He didn't intend to speak until he figured out what Wei Shenglan was really up to.

Seeing Zhu Congjian's attitude, Wei Shenglan sighed heavily:

“Brother Zhu! We’ve known each other for decades, and my Wei’s Cloth Shop has helped your embroidery workshop quite a bit, haven’t I? I know that the prices of your embroidery workshop’s orders will soon rise sharply. So, I won’t bring up the past. Let’s be business as we are. I’ll raise the prices by 20% compared to before—”

Seeing that Zhu Congjian's expression remained indifferent, he gritted his teeth: "No! Thirty percent! How about that?"

Zhu Congjian appeared calm and collected on the surface, but inside he was in turmoil!

A 30% increase is a very favorable price. It's just unclear why Wei Shenglan continues to seek cooperation with him. Could something have happened in the city that he's unaware of? And judging from Wei Shenglan's attitude, this matter is very likely related to the embroidery workshop?

Just as he was pondering, a clear female voice suddenly rang out from outside the door: "Uncle Wei is joking. Thirty percent? Your news is too slow. The price of orders from my embroidery workshop has already increased more than threefold."

Zhu Congjian paused, and together with Wei Shenglan looked in the direction of the sound, and saw his beloved daughter walking in with a smile on her face.

Zhu Jiayu walked to her father's side, looked at Wei Shenglan, and said with a smile, "In my opinion, there is no affection between our two families. You have been helping my family's embroidery business, but over the years, haven't you been using this help to keep driving down the price of my embroidery products? If there was any affection, it would have been crushed away long ago."

With a smile on her lips, she reasoned with him slowly and deliberately, neither blaming nor cursing. She appeared extremely polite, and anyone who saw her would praise her as gentle and virtuous.

But Wei Shenglan blushed at her words, and stammered, "Niece, we can't talk like that, if it weren't for..."

"If it weren't for the orders from your fabric shop, my embroidery workshop would probably be gone by now, right?" Zhu Jiayu asked gently.

Zhu Congjian was afraid that his daughter had been tricked by the old fox, so he hurriedly tried to speak, but Zhu Jiayu noticed and quietly squeezed the back of his hand, thus stopping him from speaking.

Wei Shenglan exclaimed "Ah!" as if she had regained some confidence, and straightened her back slightly: "That's exactly right!"

Zhu Jiayu remained calm and smiled gently, "Then can I understand it this way: my father could have closed the embroidery shop long ago and found another way to do business, but because of your large volume of low-priced orders, it has been delayed year after year, which is why the embroidery shop has become what it is today, unable to continue operating and unable to close down."

Wei Shenglan finally shut up, not daring to say another word.

After a long while, he seemed to finally realize that Zhu Jiayu was a tough nut to crack. With her here, he couldn't possibly say a word to Zhu Congjian. So he sadly withdrew his hand, drank the tea in his cup in one gulp, and asked indignantly, "According to my niece, this matter can't be discussed?"

Zhu Jiayu frowned: "Why would Uncle Wei think that way? Of course we can talk," she said firmly, "but since Uncle Wei wants to talk, shouldn't he show some sincerity?"

"Doing business boils down to four words: the highest bidder wins. What do you think, Uncle Webber?"

Zhu Jiayu smiled gently and harmlessly, but after a few witty exchanges, Wei Shenglan realized that she was not an easy girl to deal with. She secretly cursed in her heart, "The old saying is indeed true, a barking dog doesn't bite."

Who would have thought that Miss Zhu, who looks as delicate and frail as a little white flower, would be so tough in the business world? She said all sorts of nice things and bad things, but still wouldn't let anyone take advantage of her!

"Let me think about it some more..." Wei Shenglan smiled wryly. Although his expression wasn't pleasant, his words this time carried a rare sincerity:

“Niece, let me be frank with you. In recent years, the major fabric shops in the city have been fiercely competing. In order to sell their fabrics well, they have driven prices down as low as possible. Don’t be fooled by their high asking prices these days. Whether they will actually pay you after the subsequent orders are completed is another matter entirely!”

Upon hearing this, Zhu Jiayu's smile remained unchanged: "Thank you for the reminder, Uncle Wei. I'll remember your words." She paused, then added sinisterly, "However, if they want to skip out on my bill, they'll have to see if they have the ability!"

“A person cannot stand without integrity. Anyone who dares to owe me money or delay my payments will be made unable to survive in Suiping City.”

Upon hearing her words, Wei Shenglan instinctively wanted to laugh, but quickly remembered the rumor she had heard that morning: Zhu Jiayu, in front of Madam Wang, without saying a word, pushed her precious son into a basin of water, almost drowning him! Madam Wang was so frightened that she didn't dare to utter a sound!

Considering the current momentum of the Zhu Family Embroidery Workshop, Wei Shenglan suddenly felt that it wasn't impossible, especially if it were the woman in front of her.
