Chapter 213 Enlightenment of the Past

He spat: "You?"

He left the prison grumbling, but then began to ponder the matter again. He was the one who had been guarding the prison during the day; this prisoner had been brought in by the Minister and Miss Zhu together…

The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. Fearing that he might delay things, he finally decided to go to Zhaohua Lane.

Upon receiving the news, Zhu Jiayu initially didn't want to pay attention, but after much deliberation, she felt she should still go and see Rong Heng.

Wearing a veiled hat, she rode in a carriage to the Ministry of Justice prison, and then stood alone outside his cell door: "I heard you wanted to see me?"

Her voice was flat and devoid of any emotion.

In her eyes, Rong Heng was already a dying man, and she no longer felt any hatred towards him.

When Rong Heng saw her arrive, a carefree smile appeared on his lips: "I know everything. Zhu Jiayu."

“After you died, I regretted it. I went to a high-ranking monk and asked for a second life for us.”

"In the years you don't know, I loved you as deeply as you loved me back then. But we were never meant to be. I could barely beg for a second life for you, but I couldn't beg for your love."

Zhu Jiayu stood in the dim light, looking at him with a mixture of amusement and detachment.

So what?

"There's no point in saying this now," she said softly. "Even if what you're saying is true, you must be in a lot of pain, right?"

"But Rong Heng, I loved you too. You destroyed all of this with your own hands. Everyone has the right to feel pain, sorrow, and regret, but you don't. You don't deserve it. Can your pain now even compare to one ten-thousandth of what I felt back then?"

"Besides, I don't believe what you say at all. I'd rather believe that you only love me for who I am now, and what if I changed my personality? Would you then discard me like trash? Rong Heng, your love is shallow and frivolous. I disdain it and don't want it."

Rong Heng shook his head. He wanted to say that it wasn't like that. Even if she hadn't developed such cunning and scheming in their past life, he still loved her. It was just that he realized it too late... too late. Everything was already beyond redemption. He could only sacrifice his life to pray for a next life for them.

But he couldn't bring himself to say it.

For the first and last time, he understood so clearly how much she hated him, how deeply she hated him.

So this is life, everyone has their own destiny, that saying is true. He died at her hands, and he died a worthy death.

"You came to see me so late at night, didn't you prepare a cup of wine for me?" he asked with a smile.

Zhu Jiayu shook her head.

She said, "You haven't confessed yet, and you want to drink? Wait until another day."

After she finished speaking, she turned and left the prison.

A tall, elegant figure stood at the door. In the chilly early spring night, that person was as aloof and refined as thin snow on a branch or the bright moon in the clouds.

When he turned around and saw his beloved, he fell into the mortal world and became a fallen peach branch, wishing only to adorn her hair, to be with her in perfect harmony, and to see her year after year.

Zhu Jiayu walked over and took his hand: "Have you been waiting long?"
