Tao Yao awkwardly entered the house and came to Zhu Jiayu. She kept stealing glances at the man in the house, not daring to speak.
She didn't know his identity and was afraid that speaking rashly would bring trouble to her and Zhu Jiayu.
Zhu Jiayu, resting her chin on her hand, sat under the lamp and said to Tao Yao, "We're all family here, so just tell me what's on your mind."
Tao Yao was relieved and looked at her, saying, "I want to be with you."
Zhu Jiayu sat up slightly.
She remembered that Tao Yao hadn't been this enthusiastic before.
"What's the reason?"
Tao Yao said with a straight face, "There's no reason."
“But I can help you a lot. I’m familiar with the area, and I know people among those goods. We can work together with him from the inside. I only have one condition: you have to rescue him.”
"Him? Who?" Zhu Jiayu asked, "What's the name of that person you know? He's also..."
"Chu Yun, his name is Chu Yun, he is my... savior. He was also abducted here and is now working as a beggar under Hu Yanwang. I told you about this before, those who can't escape, those who aren't chosen by buyers, will be tortured like that and then taken to the streets to beg."
Tao Yao said somewhat anxiously.
She was determined to save Chu Yun; without Chu Yun, she wouldn't be where she is today.
If Chu Yun hadn't helped her back then, she would have been the one who died, not that boy.
Zhu Jiayu nodded: "Don't worry, tell me what happened."
After listening to her words, Tao Yao gradually calmed down and told her about what had happened that night. She then said softly, "I will do whatever you want me to do."
As long as Chu Yun can be rescued, that's what she owes him.
Zhu Jiayu glanced at Wei Qinglou, thinking about what they had just discussed. She turned to Tao Yao and said, "In that case, arrange to meet him tomorrow night and ask him two questions. First, whether they can find a temporary hiding place; second, whether there are any small paths nearby that lead out of the mountains."
Tao Yao asked, "Is there anything else?"
Zhu Jiayu thought for a moment and replied, "Also, take good care of yourself."
Tao Yao clenched her fists and said in a harsh tone, "Stop pretending to be a good person!"
Noticing the icy gaze cast upon her by the seemingly insignificant man, Tao Yao flinched, but still refused to back down. She pouted and said, "That's how it is."
However, she was sensible enough not to say anything more. After asking Zhu Jiayu if there was anything else, she left and returned to her room.
...
The next day, Tao Yao placed a stone on the windowsill.
That evening, Chu Yun indeed found an opportunity to come over.
"Hidden place and the path out of the mountain? Tao Yao, why are you asking this? I told you, you should leave here immediately." Chu Yun pursed her lips anxiously. "It's not safe here."
“I’ve said before that I want to help you get out of here. I’m not afraid of danger,” Tao Yao said softly, standing on tiptoe.
"The person who came with me is very capable. She... is a good person. If we follow her, we can definitely leave this dark and hopeless place. Think about your family, Chu Yun. Don't you want to go home and see them?"
She remembered Chu Yun saying that he was the youngest child in the family, and his parents doted on him.
Chu Yun's face darkened when her family was mentioned.
How can he go back now that he's become such a grotesque figure? It's better for his parents to just consider him dead.
Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly heard a rustling sound from the side. His expression changed, and he made a "shh" gesture, mouthing to Tao Yao, "Someone's here."
Tao Yao's heart skipped a beat, and she mouthed to Chu Yun, "Grab him."
Chu Yun nodded, turned his head and saw a dark, inky shadow on the open ground behind the wall at the corner. He suddenly jumped up and pounced on the person like a rabbit and a falcon, pinning him to the ground.
Hearing the noise, Tao Yao stepped onto a low stool, climbed onto the windowsill, and jumped down. She ran over and saw that Chu Yun was already wrestling with that person, but both of them were afraid of making a scene and being punished, so they were not fighting fiercely. Their goal was just to suppress each other.
Seeing that the man had his hair disheveled and covered his face, Tao Yao took advantage of Chu Yun's advantage again and pulled his hair aside, revealing his appearance.
Chu Yun was stunned: "It's you?"
"Do you know him?" Tao Yao asked.
The man had already given up like a defeated rooster, turning his head to the side, and did not react even though he heard the two talking.
Chu Yun looked slightly uneasy: "His name is Tiancheng."
Since arriving here, these people have seemed to be trapped in a quagmire from which they can never escape. So some of them spontaneously united, helping and supporting each other, just to draw some warmth and the courage to continue living in this dark and gloomy place.
However, some people, in order to live a better life, gravitate towards those in charge and turn their backs on the weaker ones.
Tiancheng was the latter. He was originally inconspicuous because he was neither clever nor good-looking, and had little presence among the "goods" - clever people always have a way to please others, and good-looking people can earn more money than others by playing the victim.
But Tiancheng had nothing, so he learned to tattle to the manager, reporting the "goods'" outrageous words and actions to the manager, which earned him the manager's respect.
Often, someone would curse King Yama a few times one day, and the next day they would be dragged out and beaten until they were barely alive before being dragged back.
Later, Tiancheng even went further. Even though they became much more obedient and stopped talking about the manager and Hu Yanwang, he would still pin charges on them.
