Qiu Lingyan was furious!
However, Zhu Jiayu did not give her a chance to speak again, and said with a charming smile, "It's getting late, cousin, you should go back and rest early."
Qiu Lingyan stared in disbelief at her departing figure, nearly losing her balance in anger.
What kind of attitude is Zhu Jiayu?
She meant well. It's better to give her a hint now and make her give up on the idea than to have her mother force her to break up with her brother later.
She was furious with Zhu Jiayu. She stood in front of Chunshan Residence for a while to calm herself down before turning around and heading to her fourth brother's courtyard.
Qiu Songdao was sitting in his study, but unlike the other young masters' studies, there were no stacks of books on his desk. He did have writing brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones, but they were all piled up in a corner. Large empty spaces were filled with his treasured items, such as hand-woven crickets, wooden carriages, and clay figurines.
The same was true on the display shelf next to him; antiques were piled up in the corner, while his beloved bonsai were placed in a prominent position.
It may seem elegant, but it's also true that it's not doing one's proper job.
Qiu Lingyan stormed into his study, sat down, took a big gulp of tea, and coldly held out her hand: "Where is Young Master Song's painting?"
Qiu Songdao knew she was coming to find him and was already prepared. He glanced at the painting vat in the corner and gestured with his chin, "It's in there. The newest one is his."
As he spoke, his gaze finally shifted from the straw cricket to his third sister: "Who made you angry?"
His third sister was the most temperamental and an unreasonable person, as everyone in the household knew. No one dared to offend this lady.
"She's just a cousin of the Zhu family! So what if she's a little prettier? What's she so arrogant about!"
Qiu Lingyan angrily opened the scroll, and after confirming that it was what she wanted, she put it away and looked at her fourth brother:
"What are you looking at? Do you also think she's pretty? Let me tell you, there's no way you two can be together. Your second aunt won't let you marry a pitiful girl who's no good to the Qiu family. You'd better give up on that idea!"
She dared not say such things to her own brother, but she had no such reservations when speaking to Qiu Songdao.
Qiu Songdao smiled and said, "Third sister, what are you talking about? I never thought of that."
He's still young, but he's never thought about getting married so early. Isn't being single fun? Do you really need two people to make a living?
However... Zhu's cousin is indeed beautiful.
His gaze lingered on Qiu Lingyan's face for a moment before he said, "Third Sister, do you want to teach her a lesson?"
Qiu Lingyan looked at him warily: "What do you want to do?"
She does have a fiery temper, but she wouldn't do anything bad to retaliate against Zhu Jiayu. What difference would that make from a bitch like Song Jiangmei?
Qiu Songdao had an idea and smiled:
"It just so happens that my second brother and I are going back to the academy tomorrow afternoon, and the teacher has also arranged to take us to the bookstore to listen to Mr. Zhuang's lectures on the classics. My classmates all know that the third daughter of the Qiu family is intelligent, beautiful, and gentle, and they have been wanting to meet you for a long time. Why don't you take my cousin with you to the academy tomorrow, so that my cousin can see how popular you are?"
Qiu Lingyan looked at him suspiciously: "Really?"
"Really!" Qiu Song said solemnly, almost as if he were swearing an oath to the heavens.
"Let me think about it..." Qiu Lingyan pursed her lips, not rushing to agree, but it was clear that she was somewhat tempted.
Qiu Songdao knew that haste makes waste, so he didn't rush her. He simply said, "Third Sister, think it over carefully. It's not too late to give me an answer tomorrow."
He paused, then said, "I also made an appointment with Mr. Song to go together tomorrow. Before I came back today, he was very curious about which of my sisters liked his paintings so much."
Qiu Lingyan stroked the painting: "Okay, let's talk about it tomorrow."
She threw down those words and excitedly returned to the Snowfall Pavilion. After putting down the painting, she began rummaging through the chests and cabinets. Finally, with the help of her maid, she managed to find two sets of clothes, both gorgeous and exquisite. One set was a green robe with silver cloud patterns and an apricot-yellow skirt, while the other set was a smoky pink robe with gold embroidered lily patterns and a light purple skirt.
"Which outfit do you think looks best on me?" Qiu Lingyan couldn't make up her mind for a long time, so she turned to ask her maid for her opinion.
After considering for a moment, the maid noticed that her mistress's eyes lingered on the smoky pink dress and smiled, "Miss is pretty and gentle, and smoky pink suits you perfectly!"
"That's right. Send this green set to Chunshanju and tell Miss Biao that I'll take her out for a stroll tomorrow."
Qiu Lingyan was used to throwing her weight around in the Qiu family mansion. She ordered her maid to send the clothes over, never considering that Zhu Jiayu might refuse her.
Zhu Jiayu, of course, would not refuse.
It seems that she won't be leaving Heling anytime soon. Since that's the case, she can't stay in the Qiu residence and be ignorant of the world. Even if Qiu Lingyan doesn't invite her to go out, she will find an opportunity to go out and see the situation in Heling on her own.
The next morning, Qiu Lingyan hurriedly finished breakfast and went to Chunshan Residence to urge Zhu Jiayu. When Zhu Jiayu slowly came out of the courtyard, she stared at him with wide eyes.
Zhu Jiayu did not wear the dress she had given her. Instead, she simply wore an apricot-white short-sleeved shirt and a primrose-colored pleated skirt. However, with her eyebrows lightly painted and a touch of rouge on her face, her delicate features seemed to glow, as beautiful and gentle as an apricot blossom that was about to bloom at this time of year.
Whether lightly or heavily made up, she looks good.
Qiu Lingyan glanced at her secretly, thinking that she finally understood the meaning of the poem.
Why isn't she the one who's so beautiful?
But she still frowned: "Why are you dressed like this?"
