Chapter 109 Meng Huaiyan's Warning

Meng Huaiyan instructed Qingyang to investigate whether Lu Zhao and Shen Tang had any relationship. Qingyang has been busy with this matter for the past two days, telling Meng Huaiyan in detail about everything that has happened to Shen Tang in the past five years.

Shen Tang was not lying to him; she and Lu Zhao maintained only a normal friendship.

However, when Qingyang mentioned that Lu Zhao occasionally ran into Shen Tang at the school and would walk home with her and Manman, Meng Huaiyan's jealousy and disgust towards Lu Zhao surged up again.

Although he and Shen Tang had not crossed any lines, his feelings for Shen Tang were genuine. Whenever he thought about how this person had always coveted Shen Tang, he couldn't help but feel malicious.

They wanted Lu Zhao to disappear from this world forever.

He wanted to hide Shen Tang from everyone else, so that she would only need to see him.

Meng Huaiyan's face was gloomy, and his expression was somewhat distorted.

But he couldn't do that, or Shen Tang would get angry.

She was already dissatisfied with him, and if he did something to upset her, she would only drift further and further away from him.

Meng Huaiyan suppressed the surging evil thoughts in his heart and forced himself to calm down.

Shen Tang had finally promised her that she wouldn't leave, and she couldn't let herself ruin it.

Meng Huaiyan finished his shift on time today as usual. Although his subordinates felt that he had been acting strangely these past two days, they were all very happy that he would finish his shift early.

They quickly forgot about that bit of curiosity.

Shen Tang has received a lot of help from his neighbors over the past few years, so Meng Huaiyan instructed people to prepare some money and gifts to send to them as a token of gratitude.

It's also more about asserting his sovereignty.

Aunt Chen and Granny Wang's families took the most care of Shen Tang, and Meng Huaiyan personally went to thank them.

Looking at the tall, handsome, and well-mannered young man in front of her, Granny Wang couldn't stop smiling.

"It's fate that two people can come together. How can a couple not bicker and have some friction in their daily life? Especially since you have children. Even for the sake of the children, you can't be willful and divorce at the drop of a hat."

Meng Huaiyan nodded, looking very pleased with what she heard, and explained it to her.

"We separated because of a misunderstanding; we never divorced."

Grandma Wang was taken aback for a moment, then laughed and said, "That's good. It's good that the misunderstanding has been cleared up. You should live a good life from now on."

After exchanging a few more words, Meng Huaiyan took his leave, but before leaving, he suddenly said to Granny Wang.

"I hope Granny Wang will stop playing matchmaker in the future."

Granny Wang stood there, momentarily stunned, unable to grasp the meaning behind those words.

Her daughter-in-law was watching from the side when, for some reason, she suddenly remembered something as if it had been struck by lightning: a while ago, her mother-in-law saw Madam Shen and Lu Zhao returning together at the gate of the courtyard and jokingly said that the two of them were a good match and should become a family.

She looked at the person in front of her, a faint smile on her lips, but that smile was somewhat chilling.

She quickly chimed in, "My mother-in-law is old and likes to talk nonsense. She won't do it again. Please forgive her."

This person is quite perceptive. Meng Huaiyan nodded after hearing this, then turned and left.

The gifts from Aunt Chen were exceptionally generous; she had never seen so much money in her life, and she repeatedly waved her hands in refusal.

There's no reason for Meng Huaiyan to take back what he's given away; he had a smile on his lips, but his attitude was resolute.

“Shen Tang is my wife. You have taken good care of her and Manman over the years. As their husband and father, this is what I should do.”

"Please don't be so polite, Aunt Chen, just accept this."

Aunt Chen took care of Shen Tang only because she saw that it wasn't easy for a woman like her, raising a child alone, and she felt sorry for her.

The two families lived close by, so they took extra care of each other.

She wasn't doing all this for any reward. She'd always been honest and upright her whole life, and suddenly being given so much money made her feel uneasy.

Although the young man had a smile on his lips, his attitude was unquestionable, and he remained unmoved no matter what she said.

Meng Huaiyan was preoccupied with Shen Tang and did not want to linger here any longer, so he said to Aunt Chen, "I have other matters to attend to, so I will take my leave now."

He had just stepped out of the courtyard gate when he unexpectedly ran into Lu Zhao, who had just returned from his shift.

Meng Huaiyan's gentle and smiling demeanor towards Aunt Chen vanished instantly, replaced by a cold and hostile gaze as he looked at Lu Zhao.

Lu Zhao was also taken aback when he saw Meng Huaiyan, and then respectfully bowed to him: "Lord Meng".

Meng Huaiyan nodded indifferently.

Lu Zhao knew that Meng Huaiyan disliked him, so after saying hello, he didn't linger and headed towards his door. However, as he passed by Meng Huaiyan, he was stopped by Meng Huaiyan's voice.

"Officer Lu, I am very grateful to you for saving Shen Tang and her daughter. For their sake, I will let you go."

"Please keep those inappropriate thoughts in your heart from now on and don't cross that line, otherwise I don't know what I might do."

Upon hearing Meng Huaiyan's threatening words, Lu Zhao's face turned pale, and a dull, aching pain shot through his heart.

Lord Meng is overestimating him. In the past few years, when he was not around, he was too timid to express his feelings for Shen Tang.

Now that he's here, how can he possibly do anything out of line knowing that Shen Tang has a husband?

"Thank you for the reminder, Lord Meng. I will remember it."

Meng Huaiyan hummed in response and took a step to leave when Shen Tang's somewhat nervous voice suddenly came from behind him.

What are you doing?

Shen Tang had just finished her business at the shop when she unexpectedly saw two familiar figures at the alley entrance.

She still remembered the last time Meng Huaiyan tried to kill Lu Zhao, and now that she suddenly saw the two of them together, she was afraid that Meng Huaiyan would go crazy and do something else.

His tone inevitably carried a hint of tension and fear.

Upon hearing Shen Tang's voice, Meng Huaiyan quickly suppressed the hostility on his face and turned to Shen Tang.

"I just happened to run into Officer Lu and we chatted for a bit. He saved you and Manman last time, and I'm thanking him."

Shen Tang looked at Meng Huaiyan suspiciously. He was thanking Lu Zhao?!

Did she hear that right?

When did Meng Huaiyan become so generous and understanding?

Meng Huaiyan naturally saw the doubt in Shen Tang's eyes, but he remained calm and said to her.

"Is it true? If you don't believe me, ask Officer Lu."

Lu Zhao couldn't help but glance at Meng Huaiyan, and saw that he had a kind smile on his face at the moment, where was the cold and stern look he had just had when facing him?

He suppressed his shock and said to Shen Tang, "It's true."

Although Shen Tang still had some doubts, seeing that Lu Zhao had already said so, she didn't say anything more.

Meng Huaiyan didn't want her to have too much contact with Lu Zhao, so he half-turned to block Lu Zhao's view, then took Shen Tang's hand and said to her, "Let's go home."
