Chapter 37 Do you want me to feed you myself?

Chapter Thirty-Seven: Do you want me to feed you myself?

"I heard you were sick, so I came to see you."

Thinking back to how we had argued before because I wasn't eating properly, I can't help but feel a little embarrassed by how quickly he's proven me wrong.

"It's just a minor ailment, don't worry about it."

Meng Huaiyan hummed in response and said nothing more, only clapping his hands in the direction of the door.

Hearing the noise, Ayun pushed open the door and came in, carrying a bowl of medicine in her hand.

Shen Tang frowned as she looked at the bowl of medicine: "Didn't I say I wouldn't drink it? I'm all better now."

Ayun glanced timidly at Meng Huaiyan, and was about to speak when Meng Huaiyan interrupted her.

"How can you not take medicine when you're sick? Are you still a child?"

Shen Tang was somewhat dissatisfied: "But I'm already better, why do I still need to eat? I know my own body."

Meng Huaiyan glanced at her: "If you had known better, you wouldn't have gotten sick today."

"......"

Sure enough, he's still holding a grudge about what she said a few days ago.

Shen Tang felt a little annoyed and turned her face away, not wanting to talk to him.

Meng Huaiyan tested the temperature of the medicine bowl with the back of his hand; it was just right. "Come and drink your medicine."

Shen Tang did not move.

Meng Huaiyan then asked, "Do you want me to feed you?"

Who would have thought he'd feed her? Shen Tang looked at her speechlessly.

But then she saw Meng Huaiyan get up and walk towards her with a bowl of medicine in his hand.

Before she could react, Meng Huaiyan took a sip of medicine, held her chin with one hand, and leaned in to kiss her.

Shen Tang instinctively tried to back away, but Meng Huaiyan grabbed the back of her head with his other hand. The force was so great that she couldn't break free at all.

Meng Huaiyan forcefully pried open her lips and teeth with his soft tongue, and the bitter medicine instantly filled her entire mouth. He lifted her chin and, with a "gulp," fed her a large mouthful of medicine.

Shen Tang wanted to curse. Who feeds medicine like that?!

But Meng Huaiyan didn't give her a chance to react at all.

After repeating this several times, the bowl of medicine was finally emptied, and Meng Huaiyan finally released her.

"If you don't take your medicine properly next time, I don't mind feeding you like this."

Shen Tang: "......"

After feeding her the medicine, Meng Huaiyan got up and left, as if he had come specifically to supervise her taking the medicine.

Shen Tang stared at his departing figure, wiped her lips hard with a handkerchief, and cursed him in her heart.

Time flew by like water, and half a month later, the princess and her entourage returned from their summer retreat at the villa.

Shen came to visit her as soon as she returned, and Meng Huaiyan's people did not stop her.

Looking around her courtyard, Shen saw that it was full of unfamiliar faces, and that she was locked in this small courtyard and couldn't get out.

His eyes were filled with worry: "Tang'er, are you alright?"

"Aunt, I'm fine, don't worry." Shen Tang's words were not a lie. Apart from not being able to leave the courtyard, Meng Huaiyan did not mistreat her in terms of food, clothing and daily necessities.

Madam Shen couldn't help but sigh, "What kind of mess is this?"

Tang'er had been pestering Meng Huaiyan for two years, but he remained unmoved.

Tang'er had finally let go of her worries and got engaged smoothly, but unexpectedly, Meng Huaiyan suddenly interfered and ruined the marriage.

Given Shen Tang's background, the eldest princess would never agree to her becoming the heir's wife. Meng Huaiyan was clearly aware of this as well, and thus quietly went to ask the emperor for a marriage decree.

In the past, she would definitely have been happy for Tang'er.

But now Tang'er clearly doesn't like him anymore, and even wants to leave the Duke's mansion to get away from him.

Now, however, an imperial decree has forcibly bound her to Meng Huaiyan.

Madam Shen frowned, unsure how to comfort her.

Not wanting her aunt to worry, Shen Tang quickly changed the subject, asking, "How are you doing at the other residence, Aunt? Has anything interesting happened?"

Before Madam Shen could speak, Qinghe quickly interjected, "Second Madam has been forced to kneel by the Old Madam recently, and her knees haven't healed yet."

"Qinghe!" Madam Shen shouted sternly, "What nonsense are you spouting!"

Qinghe immediately knelt down, tears streaming down her face from heartache.

Upon hearing this, Shen Tang immediately leaned over to lift Shen's skirt, but Shen tried to stop him without success.

As soon as her skirt was lifted, Shen Tang was so shocked by the scene before her that tears streamed down her face.

My aunt's knees were swollen like steamed buns, with bruises spreading from purple to blue over a large area, and traces of blood on them, making them look particularly horrifying.

Shen Tang's heart clenched, and she said in a trembling voice, "Aunt, I'm sorry, I've dragged you into this..."

"That's not true." Madam Shen lowered her skirt and said calmly, "You know perfectly well that the Old Madam has never really liked me."

Shen Tang naturally knew that her aunt's marriage to Second Master Meng Yunzhou had been strongly opposed by the old lady.

Regardless of anything else, her background alone made her very dissatisfied.

As far as the Meng family is concerned, they need to find someone from a scholarly and distinguished family, if not someone of equal social standing.

However, the Shen family had been commoners for several generations, and some of them were even merchants. His brother, as the only scholar in the Shen family, was only a minor official.

I am truly unfit to be a woman in the Meng family.

However, at that time, the Second Master was determined to marry his aunt, which caused a great unpleasantness between him and the Old Madam, and he became even more dissatisfied with Madam Shen.

The Meng family used underhanded tactics to demote the Second Master to the desolate An County, hoping to make him suffer and submit.

Without saying a word, Second Master took Shen to An County, where they stayed for three years.

It wasn't until the old Duke fell critically ill that the Second Master took Madam Shen and their child back to the capital.

Perhaps out of consideration for the child, or perhaps because he was his own son, the old Duke gave his dying wish to allow Madam Shen to enter the family.

After Shen entered the family, the old lady found fault with her in every way. If she was even slightly dissatisfied, she would be punished by kneeling in the ancestral hall or standing in a proper manner.

During one of her punishments of kneeling, Shen suddenly experienced vaginal bleeding, and the fetus she was carrying, less than two months old, was lost. The doctor informed her that she might never be able to conceive again.

That incident caused a great uproar. The Second Master was heartbroken and threatened to separate from the family and move out of the Duke's mansion. The clansmen came to comfort him, and in the end, they did not separate. The Old Madam finally relented.

Since then, although she still disliked the Shen family, she did not make things difficult for them anymore.

Unexpectedly, this time, because of her, her aunt was targeted with anger.

Shen Tang felt both ashamed and heartbroken, and tears streamed down her face.

Shen didn't seem to care much, after all, this kind of thing was commonplace.

After offering a few words of comfort, and once Shen Tang had calmed down a bit, the two aunt and niece chatted for a while longer before Shen left.

Since things had come to this point, there was no point in saying more. Shen could only pray in her heart that Meng Huaiyan truly loved Tang'er and would protect her after marriage.

Otherwise, given the princess's temperament, Tang'er's married life would likely be very difficult.
