Chapter 130 Triumphant Return

That night, Su Yi was awakened by the numbness in his hand. When he woke up, he saw someone sleeping on his hand.

He frowned in displeasure and was about to make a move when the person beside the bed stirred, revealing a familiar face. Overwhelmed with excitement, he instantly froze.

Once the person was sound asleep, he slowly withdrew his hand, got up, and carried the person onto the narrow bed to continue sleeping.

Su Cheng, who happened to be standing nearby, was also awake. When he saw this scene, his mouth was agape.

What did he see?

His second brother was actually holding a servant boy?

hiss!

Doesn't he like Huanhuan? How could this be?

After getting up slightly, he noticed that his second brother seemed to be kissing that little girl.

His jaw dropped in shock, and he quickly lay down, afraid that Su Yi would discover him.

I kept thinking to myself, I never expected my second brother to be that kind of person, I really saw through him.

I must tell Huanhuan when I get back; I can't let her be kept in the dark.

I drifted off to sleep again.

Su Yi knew that Su Cheng was awake, but Liu Huan was asleep at the moment, and he didn't want to talk and wake her up.

Seeing that she had painted her fair face black again, I was both annoyed and amused.

He kissed her affectionately, then happily held her close and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, Su Cheng woke up to find only a back view on the bed next door, clearly indicating that Su Yi, who had been sleeping outside, had left.

Ignoring his foot injury, he angrily sat up, and after confirming the situation, he reached out and yanked back the blanket next to him. "Hey, get up! How long do you plan to sleep in my brother's bed?"

Su Yi happened to enter the tent and saw this scene. He limped over and quickly covered her with the blanket.

What's wrong with you?

Su Cheng felt disillusioned. "Am I going crazy?"

He angrily shouted, "Second brother, how can you do this to Huanhuan?"

The person on the bed turned over and slowly opened their eyes. "What are you all yelling about? It's so noisy."

Su Cheng looked over and saw that the person on the bed was Liu Huan. His eyes lit up. "Huanhuan, it's you!"

Liu Huan said irritably, "Then who do you think it is?"

She slept in her clothes yesterday, so she didn't need to get up to change. Liu Huan sat on the edge of the bed wrapped in a blanket, her face still tired, clearly not having slept well.

After sitting for a while and fully waking up, she asked, "How are your legs? Do they still hurt?"

Su Cheng laughed and said, "Hey, it seems you've come to your senses now that you've started asking questions."

Seeing the sorrow in her eyes, he quickly said, "It's nothing serious. Look, Second Brother has already stood up. He'll be fine soon."

Liu Huan was skeptical. The military doctor from yesterday came again. "Hey, why are you up? Lie down quickly."

They were talking about Su Yi; Su Cheng was still in bed.

He looked at Liu Huan with an unfriendly expression, "What's wrong with you, you little servant, sitting on your master's bed?"

Liu Huan jumped up, bowed her head, and admitted her mistake: "Yes, yes, you're right."

As he spoke, the military doctor helped Su Yi lie down. He took Su Yi's pulse and examined the wound for a while. "Hmm, the recovery is going well, but the leg injury isn't fully healed yet. It's best not to get up and walk around too often, as it will affect the wound's healing."

He then looked at Su Cheng's leg, pinched it, and asked, "Does it hurt like this?"

Su Cheng's face turned pale with pain. "A little..."

The military doctor concluded: "It's probably a bone injury, not a very serious one. It's just a matter of time before it heals properly. You absolutely must not get up and walk. If the bone doesn't heal properly, it will affect your ability to fight."

These words startled Su Cheng so much that he froze, looking at Liu Huan with a wronged expression.

With a military doctor present, Liu Huan couldn't immediately comfort him and could only pretend not to see him.

The military doctor spoke at length before leaving, and before leaving, he solemnly warned Liu Huan to keep a close watch on the two of them, and that they should not get up unless absolutely necessary.

Liu Huan bowed and scraped as she saw the person off, then turned back and gave Su Yi a sidelong glance, "Did you hear me? Don't get up."

Su Yi nodded honestly. When she looked at Su Cheng, he looked at her pitifully and said, "Huanhuan, I broke my bone."

Liu Huan felt extremely distressed and helped him lie down. She looked at his feet from side to side and said, "When we get back, I'll make you some bone broth to nourish you. Don't be afraid. Your father was seriously injured before, but he recovered."

"Yes, Huanhuan is so nice!"

After he finished speaking, he saw the murderous look in his second brother's eyes next door, and said to Liu Huan with a wronged expression, "Huanhuan, look at my second brother, he's still yelling at me even though I'm like this."

"Okay, I'll tell him to go later."

Upon hearing this, Su Cheng looked at Su Yi smugly, as if to say, "See, Huanhuan cares about me the most."

Su Yi didn't want to argue with him, so she pretended not to see him and just called Liu Huan over.

"You should go back later; it's not convenient here."

Liu Huan didn't care at all, "If there's anything inconvenient, I'll take care of you here. Once you're better, we'll go back to Beijing together and bring my sister home with us."

Su Cheng was overjoyed to hear that he was going home. "Great! I haven't been back for years. I'm going to go back to Maocao Village to take a look."

The two sat together, reminiscing about their childhood, laughing so hard they were doubled over. Su Yi watched them with a faint smile.

The general coughed as he entered, interrupting their laughter. He knew Liu Huan's identity; otherwise, he wouldn't have let her in. So, he wasn't surprised at all.

Upon seeing the general arrive, Liu Huan lowered her head and immediately fell silent, standing up to wait quietly to the side.

"How are you feeling today?" the general asked.

Su Yi replied, "It's fine, thank you for your concern, General."

"Well, you two can rest for now. We'll return to the capital as soon as the Emperor's decree arrives. However, it's inconvenient for you two to take care of each other while you're in the military camp. Why don't you go back to the city to rest? We'll call you when the time comes."

When the general said this, he was looking at Liu Huan. It was already the limit for him to allow Liu Huan to stay in the military camp for one night.

If others find out, the consequences will be unimaginable.

"I will listen to the general. Thank you, General."

The general said, "There's nothing to thank me for. I understand that you have a deep bond and care for each other, but rules are rules."

"only……"

He glanced at Liu Huan, who knew she shouldn't be there, and tactfully withdrew with Changbai.

"He's quite sensible."

Su Yi smiled indulgently, "You've been spoiled, General, please don't be offended."

The general said solemnly, "We already know what happened this time. Someone found Wu Mazi's body outside the city and followed the clues to Zhang Jun."

"Zhang Jun admitted that he was jealous of Su Cheng, which is why he poisoned him when the war was about to end. He has been taken into custody."

"As for other matters, Lord Su need not worry, they have all been taken care of."

Only Su Yi could understand the last sentence. He nodded to the general and said, "Thank you, General."

"You brothers have made great contributions in this battle. When we return, I will report to the Emperor and reward you accordingly."

"Alright, take that person back. Remember to invite me for a drink when you get married in the future."

After the general finished speaking and left, he saw Liu Huan outside and asked, "Am I really that scary?"

Liu Huan replied earnestly, "I am not afraid of you, but I admire you."

The general said nothing and strode away.

Liu Huan took the two back to deal with the remaining issues.

She entrusted the down jacket business entirely to Han You, saying, "Although you can't make too much money from this, you won't lose money either. You need to pay attention to it, don't let anyone take advantage of you, and remember to deliver the goods on time."

“I know you’re hiding your talents. Once you’ve settled your family matters, if you come to the capital or Suzhou, you can come find me.”

"Thank you!" Han You was naturally extremely grateful. He believed that as long as he completed this order, his future path would be much smoother.

It was his ignorance that led him to believe there was such an extraordinary woman in the world; the border town was truly too small.

After avenging his family, he went to travel around.

Half a month later, the imperial edict arrived, leaving tens of thousands of soldiers to guard the area, while the other soldiers returned to their hometowns. The general led General Qin Dayong, who had been accused of colluding with the enemy, back to report.

Su Yi's leg injury has healed, but the head he injured that day still hurts from time to time. The military doctor said this is unavoidable.

Su Cheng couldn't walk, so they followed the wounded soldiers at the very back of the column.

On the carriage was a jar wrapped in white cloth, containing Zhuangzi's ashes, which he had promised to take home.

Because of the wounded, it took them almost three months to reach the capital.

As the imperial envoy, Su Yi had to go with the general to report back immediately. Su Cheng, being of lower rank, was not qualified to meet the emperor, so he followed Liu Huan in a carriage back to the Su family.

Su Wan had been looking forward to it for days, and when the person didn't arrive, she was so anxious that bubbles were forming on her lips.

After much anticipation, Liu Huan and Su Cheng finally arrived.

"It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back."

She repeated it several times, tears of joy streaming down her face, and led the two back into the house. When she saw Su Cheng walking with a limp, she immediately became alarmed, asking, "Xiao Shi, what's wrong with your foot?"

Su Cheng explained with a smile, "Sis, my foot was injured a little before, but I've gotten into the habit of always standing on my tiptoes, so it doesn't hurt at all anymore."

Su Wan only believed him after he walked a few steps normally and even jumped a few times.

"Okay, stop jumping and come inside."

He didn't look at Liu Huan once throughout the entire process. Liu Huan walked behind the two of them, wanting to speak but not knowing what to say.

The two younger girls kept calling her "Auntie," so Guan Changdao said, "Since Shitou has gone to the palace, let's eat first."

Su Wan pulled Su Cheng to sit down, but Liu Huan didn't dare to sit, and Guan Chang didn't sit down either.

Su Wan said irritably, "What, do I have to treat you?"

Liu Huan sat down next to her with a smile, "No need, no need, thank you, sister."

Su Wan shook off her hand, "Don't try to get close to me, who's your sister?"

Guan Chang tried to smooth things over, saying, "Let's eat, everyone."

Seeing Su Cheng's dark and scaly face, Su Wan couldn't help but cry while eating, "Look at you, it's not like we can't afford to support you, why do you have to take such risks?"

"It is a man's mission to defend his country. Sister, I'm fine, don't worry about me."

"This dish is so delicious. I can tell it was made by my sister as soon as I taste it. I've been thinking about it for a long time."

Su Wan was gratified by Su Cheng's appearance; the younger brother she had personally raised back then was now taking on a responsibility.

Turning to the side, she saw Liu Huan smiling brightly at her, and she became even angrier. "Why smile so ugly? You might as well not smile at all."

Liu Huan nodded obsequiously, "Yes, yes, sister is right."

Seeing her cautious and ingratiating manner, Su Wan couldn't get angry. "Eat your food. I'll settle your matter later."

Liu Huan nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, yes, whatever you want, sister."

Guan Yi laughed loudly from the side, "Auntie is really hopeless."

Su Wan glared at him, "Eat your food." Guan picked up his bowl and started shoveling rice into his mouth.

The smile then shifted to Liu Huan.

After dinner, Su Wan didn't keep them talking. Instead, she asked someone to bring hot water so they could wash up and go to bed early.

When Su Yi returned home that evening, neither of them had woken up. "Let them sleep. You should wash up and go to rest. We can talk about it tomorrow."

Liu Huan didn't wake up until noon the next day. When she got up, they had already been chatting for a while.

Su Wan immediately ordered someone to bring in food, saying, "Let's eat first."

After saying that, she went to talk to Su Cheng, "When your mother sees you like this when you get back, she'll be heartbroken, and yet you're still smiling."

Su Cheng said, "It will be about three months before I get back from here. By then, I might have come back for nothing."

Liu Huan glanced at him and couldn't help but say, "With your skin tone that's been tanned to the bone, you think you can become fair and beautiful?"

Su Cheng said to Su Wan in a coquettish tone, "Sister, look at her."

Su Wan gave her a reproachful look, "It's food."

Liu Huan made faces at the two of them, and Su Cheng pretended to hit her, but Su Wan stopped him, saying, "Alright, why are you still arguing at such a young age?"

After Su Wan finished eating, Su Yi said, "There will be a celebration banquet in the palace tomorrow, and Huanhuan will be going too. Sister, could you prepare an outfit for her?"

Su Wan slapped her wrist. "Tomorrow? Then hurry up and come with me to the shop to find some clothes to alter and make do, or we'll be too late."

After saying that, Su Cheng pulled Liu Huan, who had just finished eating, away. He tentatively asked, "I don't need to go, do I?"

Su Yi glanced at him expressionlessly. "What do you think?"

Su Cheng stood there petrified until Guan Yi came to tease him, at which point he reluctantly went to play along.

next day

"Greetings, Your Majesty! Long live the Emperor!"

"No need for formalities. Today is a victory celebration banquet for all of you generals, so please don't be too reserved."

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

Liu Huan stood up. This was her first time entering the palace. Because she knew nothing, the princess had given her a letter last night to follow her. Otherwise, she would have been completely clueless, like someone painting a wall with coal dust.

The men and women are divided into two sides, separated by a screen.

Liu Huan stood closer to the princess, and although she could have seen the emperor's face by simply looking up, she dared not look.

After the ceremony, the rewards for meritorious service were announced. Since the Grand General was already the highest rank, he was given the additional title of Grand General Who Protects the Nation.

The other generals were promoted in turn, and even Su Cheng was promoted from a ninth-rank outer officer to a seventh-rank deputy lieutenant.

The general said, "Your Majesty, Su Cheng is the most talented person I have ever seen. He is an invaluable talent for the Great Li Kingdom."

The Emperor said, "I want to see if the person whom General Zhenguo highly praised is truly deserving of the title."

Su Cheng was nudged by someone nearby, and only then did he realize that the Emperor was calling him.

"Your subject Su Cheng greets Your Majesty. May Your Majesty be well."

"Raise your head!"

Su Cheng looked up at the sound, and the Emperor asked, "Who is Su Yi to you?"

Su Cheng honestly replied, "Your Majesty, he is my second elder brother."

After replying to the Emperor, Su Cheng remained silent, feeling uneasy, while Liu Huan held her breath.

After about several tens of seconds, the Emperor laughed heartily, "Well done! One brother is a scholar, the other a warrior. The Su family has truly raised two fine sons."

Where is Su Qing?

Su Yi stepped forward and knelt beside Su Cheng, saying, "Your subject Su Yi greets Your Majesty. May Your Majesty be well."
