Chapter 66 Morning Sickness

Su Wan gave a soft "hmm" and let those large hands caress her clothes.

She unconsciously recalled what her mother had told her and the illustrations she had seen last night, and felt like she couldn't breathe.

By the time she realized what was happening, she was already lying on the bed with her clothes half open.

A man's hands have a magical power; wherever they touch, they create ripples of emotion.

Their warm lips touched, and the man's innate wildness erupted, as fierce as a lion hunting its prey.

"Relax, it won't hurt."

The seductive voice made her relax unconsciously, allowing herself to be taken advantage of.

Huanhuan is right, men's words are deceitful.

Su Wan felt as if she had been torn in two, and for the next few hours, she was on a small boat, swaying and rocking without end.

She woke up the next morning when she heard the maid calling her.

Her husband was fast asleep beside her, which made her blush slightly. She weakly pushed him away, saying, "Husband, it's time to get up."

The new bride was required to be served tea upon entering the house. Since she was not favored by Guan's mother to begin with, and it was even later now, the impression she would have had was even worse.

"My lord~"

Guan Chang finally woke up after being called twice.

He opened his eyes and saw the soft, fragrant body in his arms, and unconsciously took a sniff. "My wife smells so good."

Su Wan didn't dare look at him. "Get up quickly, it's time to serve tea."

Guan Changxian stood up first, and when Su Wan stood up, the soreness in her body swept over her, causing her to involuntarily gasp.

Guan Chang helped her up. "It's all my fault for being so impetuous yesterday. How about we postpone the tea ceremony?"

Su Wan forced herself to get up. "Which new bride doesn't go through this? My mother-in-law doesn't like me to begin with, I can't make her even more disgusted with me."

After changing her clothes, a maid came in to help her wash up and style her hair. She endured the pain as she walked.

Master Guan and Madam Guan were already seated and waiting in the main courtyard, with Guan Mei standing beside them, looking resentful.

After properly serving tea and listening to the instructions, when it was Guan Mei's turn to address him, she stubbornly refused to speak.

Su Wan handed her the gold hairpin as a gift for changing her address to Guan Yu. She wouldn't have accepted it if Master Guan hadn't scolded her.

Madam Guan couldn't help but say, "Now that you've married into the Guan family, change your unseemly ways and live a good life with Chang'er. Go back home whenever you have free time."

Su Wan bowed respectfully and gracefully, "Yes, Mother."

Madam Guan looks much better now; if she were still so timid and submissive, Madam Guan would feel like vomiting blood.

Three days later, when her daughter and son-in-law returned home, Su's mother was already waiting at the courtyard gate. Upon seeing her daughter and son-in-law enter, she couldn't help but shed tears again.

He pulled Su Wan inside and spoke intimately, "How is your son-in-law treating you?"

Su Wan was still a little embarrassed, blushing as she said, "He treats me very well, and my mother-in-law is very good too."

She felt that her mother-in-law was not wrong, and after realizing it herself, she also felt that her mother-in-law's behavior was indeed annoying.

"As long as you feel good, that's all that matters. Of all of you, I'm most worried about you. Now that you're married, your mother is about to have a grandson, and Shitou is about to take the imperial examination. It's like all the good things are happening at once."

Su Wan asked, "Mother, has my sister-in-law's mother not left yet?"

Su's mother held her hand and said, "Not yet. Your sister-in-law's pregnancy has been difficult. She had some trouble with the pregnancy earlier and vomited everything she ate. Your mother-in-law is thinking of staying a few more days."

"When you get pregnant, I'll come and take care of you."

The mother and daughter were talking without being disturbed. In Fang Yi's yard next door, Fang's mother was also looking at her daughter with heartache.

"What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you."

Fang Yi shook her head, "Mom, don't worry about me, I don't want to eat."

Fang's mother was anxious, "How can that be? How can you and the child stand not eating?"

Fang Yi felt nauseous just hearing the word "eat," let alone eating.

I waved my hand, closed my eyes, and felt better.

Fang's mother glanced around the house and, not seeing her son-in-law, felt a little dissatisfied. "Da Shi is really something. Why would he go to the shop when you're feeling so unwell?"

Just as Fang Yi was about to speak, Da Shi came in from outside, carrying a package with some things inside.

Seeing that Fang's mother was very respectful, he said, "Mother, I went out and found some food. Do you think you could give it to my wife?"

Fang's mother opened the package; inside were oranges, the peels of which were very green and looked extremely sour.

Where did you get it?

Da Shi said, "My wife has lost weight these past few days, and I was very worried, so I asked the doctor. The doctor said this would work, but people in the county don't sell it because they think it's too sour, so I went to the next town to buy it."

Fang's mother felt guilty when she remembered what she had said to her son-in-law earlier. "You're so thoughtful."

Peeling one open, Fang Yi opened her eyes at the smell and said, "Mom, I want to eat."

Fang's mother put the sour food, which she thought was so sour it would make her teeth ache, into her mouth without even blinking, saying, "It's so delicious."

Fang's mother seized the opportunity to say, "They say sour foods mean a boy and spicy foods mean a girl, so your baby is definitely the right one."

Da Shi scratched his head, grinning and revealing a few teeth. "I love both my daughter and my son."

Seeing her son-in-law's attitude, she was overjoyed.

He hurriedly instructed, "Go and get busy at the shop, I'll keep an eye on things at home."

Da Shi shook his head, "I'm worried about my wife like this. I want to stay home with her."

Fang Yi snapped out of her daze after eating a few oranges, and gave a reproachful look, "Just go when I tell you to. Your mother is here. Go and earn some money for the children."

Da Shi then went out, looking rather simple-minded.

Fang's mother looked pleased, "My son-in-law is a good one."

Fang Yi smiled happily, "Mother, I am so happy to marry Da Shi. He is such a good person."

"Yes, Mother is happy for you too."

As they were talking, Liu Huan came in, carrying a bowl of noodles. The noodles smelled sour and spicy, which was very appetizing.

"Sister-in-law, try this. I made it especially with pickled chili peppers. Try it and see if you can eat it."

The aroma awakened her taste buds, and Fang Yi ate several bites without spitting it out. "Delicious, thank you Huanhuan."

The bowl was finished in no time.

Liu Huan laughed and said, "Why are we talking about this as a family? Auntie, come eat with me. Mom said that if we bring the food over, my sister-in-law might feel uncomfortable if she smells it, so she'll eat alone. We'll eat together."

Seeing how thoughtful the family was, Fang's mother wiped away her tears and went out, saying, "Alright, alright, you rest first, I'll be back in a bit."

Fang Yi lay down to rest during her pregnancy. The others were eating in a room far away, so she couldn't smell the food and quickly fell asleep.

After finishing their meal, Su Wan and Guan Chang prepared to go home, and Su's mother was reluctant to let them go.

It took a lot of persuasion before they finally let go.

Fang Yi's morning sickness lasted until three months into her pregnancy, when she woke up one day craving braised pork, which finally stopped.

She only got out of bed after the doctor took her pulse and said the pregnancy was stable.

Just as Fang's mother was about to leave, Su's mother gave her a gold hairpin, saying, "Mother-in-law, please take this back to Fang Yi's sister-in-law. She's been working hard at home."

Fang's mother refused to accept it no matter what, but Fang Yi choked up and persuaded her to finally accept it.

"Then I will thank my in-laws on behalf of Fang Yi's sister-in-law."

"We're all family, why be so polite?"

They also prepared a lot of food and supplies, and several bolts of fine fabric, for both the elderly and children.

Fang Yi knew that Su's mother was afraid that her mother would be looked down upon and said unpleasant things by her sister-in-law when she went back.

She watched Da Shi carrying his luggage as he saw his mother off, tears welling in her eyes, feeling grateful that Da Shi was hers.
