Su Yi rested outside for two days, and once his injuries had healed a little, he couldn't stay still.
"It's nothing, I'm much better now. I haven't gone back for so many days, so your wife won't nag me."
As he spoke, his dark eyes held a doting look that Changbai couldn't quite decipher.
Once you've advised your master on his decision, there's no need to interfere too much. Find a black robe for him to change into, and help him mount his horse, but he refuses, saying, "I'm not crippled, why are you helping me?"
Changbai looked at his empty hand and said, "Fine!"
The carriage traveled slowly and stopped at the entrance of the Su residence. "Master, we have arrived."
Su Yi got out of the car and looked at the towering gate in front of him, puzzled. "Why did you bring me here when we were going home?"
Changbai's face paled. "Master, do you really not remember?"
"Remember what?" Su Yi asked in return.
A look of worry crossed Changbai's face: "We've already moved here; this is a house bestowed upon us by the Emperor."
Su Yi thought for a moment, "Look at my memory, how could I forget this? Did your wife go to the Princess's residence? Why don't we take a detour and bring her back?"
Changbai was almost in tears. What's wrong with Master?
"Master, Madam, she..."
Before Changbai could finish speaking, Su Yi started talking to himself again, "I understand. If you don't want someone to pick her up, then don't go. Wait for her to come back on her own. She'll probably be captivated by the princess's daughter again."
When Changbai heard his master say these words, he wondered if he had been possessed by the Third Master. When did his master become so talkative, and what he was saying was all incomprehensible to him.
"Master, let's go in."
Su Yi glanced at him expressionlessly, then went inside and went straight back to the main house. Seeing the dusty tables and chairs, he said unhappily, "Is this how you clean when the master isn't here?"
The maid in the main courtyard didn't understand what was going on. Didn't the Second Master say that no one was allowed to enter this room?
Su Yi swept his dark eyes over them and said, "Go and clean it up. Where will your master stay when he comes back?"
The maid didn't know what it meant, and dared not disobey the order, so she took a broom and a handkerchief and went in to clean.
Su Yi said, "Master, don't touch your master's things."
The maid then realized that he meant the madam, but hadn't the madam left? Could it be that she had returned?
With these questions in mind, the maid cleaned the house spotlessly, while Su Yi looked at files in the study. Everything seemed normal yet abnormal.
"Second Master, the Old Madam requests your presence."
Su Yi looked up from the file and asked, "What is it?"
The maidservant spoke the truth: "The old lady said you'll know when you get there."
When Su Yi arrived, the place was bustling with activity. A middle-aged woman dressed in flamboyant clothes was laughing hysterically, and her eyes lit up when she saw him enter.
"I've long heard that Lord Su is exceptionally handsome and dashing, and now I've finally met him in person."
Su Yi ignored her and asked his mother, who was sitting in the main seat, "Mother, what do you want with me?"
The smile on Su's mother's face hadn't faded yet. "This is Matchmaker Wang. I invited her here to ask her to propose marriage at the Xu residence. It just so happens that you're back. See if there's anything else that needs to be prepared?"
Su Yi's face darkened, like the prelude to a storm, "What marriage proposal?"
Su's mother explained, "Didn't you ask me to arrange things for you before you left? I happened to hear that you were interested in a girl from the Xu family, so I thought we should settle things quickly. Only when you're settled can your son, Xiao Shi, find a wife."
Su Yi's face darkened further. "I already have a wife, why would I want to marry someone else?"
Seeing this, Wang, the matchmaker, stood there awkwardly, but being a matchmaker, she quickly smiled and said, "Is it because we haven't discussed it yet? It's okay, I'll come back in a couple of days."
She laughed so hard her eyes disappeared, "I'll come back in a couple of days!" and swayed her hips as she left.
Looking at her furious son, Su's mother felt exhausted. "What exactly do you want? My father and I have lived an upright life. How could we have raised such a rebellious son like you?"
Su Yi's eyes reddened and he choked up a little, "Mother, isn't Huanhuan good enough? Why did you have to marry someone else for me? What about Huanhuan?"
Upon hearing this, Su's mother stood up, trembling. "What did you say? What do you mean?"
"What do you mean by asking me?" Su's mother angrily grabbed his clothes and questioned him, only to find that her hands were stained red, which was seeping from his black clothes.
Su's mother froze, her hand too heavy to move. "Shitou... what's wrong with you?"
Su Yi didn't answer, not because he didn't want to, but because he didn't have the chance, as he was dizzy.
Su Yi remained unconscious for another day and night, and his mother also didn't sleep a wink for a day and a night, worrying about her son and wondering what he meant by what he said before he fainted.
Su Cheng advised, "Mother, I'll stay here and watch over my brother. You go and get some sleep."
Su's mother refused; she couldn't sleep because she thought of her son's wounds under his black clothes.
“If you don’t sleep, I won’t sleep either. You know I haven’t recovered yet. How can my body take this?” Su’s mother finally wavered when she heard this. Her son was her lifeblood, and so was her husband.
"Keep an eye on him. If he wakes up, send someone to find me. Keep your voice down so you don't wake your father."
As soon as Su's mother left, the person on the bed opened their eyes. The pillow was already soaked with sweat, and the person lying there had bloodshot eyes, a frightening sight.
Su Cheng wasn't afraid. "Second brother, what's wrong with you?"
Su Yi stiffened and said in a hoarse voice, "You can go out first. I want to be alone for a while."
After saying that, he closed his eyes and refused to communicate. Helpless, Su Cheng could only leave and close the door behind him.
Su Yi heard the door slam shut so loudly it felt like it hit his heart, jolting him awake from his slumber and all his past regrets.
He didn't know if what had happened to him in the past few months was a dream or something else; if it was a dream, why was it so vivid and cruel?
Why does he dream within a dream, dreaming that Huanhuan will do things to hurt his family? She is so kind and wholeheartedly thinks of the Su family and herself.
The more he thought about it, the more his head ached. He didn't want to think about it anymore, but he couldn't help but think about it. When he thought about the person who had disappeared for several months, he felt like he couldn't breathe.
Why did fate have to play such a cruel joke on him? He had finally found someone he cherished so much, someone who had finally agreed to marry him, someone whose every frown would break his heart. Why did he have to treat her like this?
Recalling everything that had happened over the past few months, he pulled the blanket over himself. Under the blanket, a figure was trembling incessantly. Su Cheng could almost hear the sobbing coming from inside, filled with despair and helplessness.
It was even worse than when Huanhuan was lost.
When Su's mother came again that evening, Su Yi had returned to normal. If it weren't for his swollen eyes and his constantly trembling hands, he would have looked no different from usual.
Su's mother thought he was in pain, and she wiped away her tears with heartache, "How could you not say anything when you were so badly injured?"
Su Yi found himself unable to speak; as soon as he opened his mouth, he couldn't suppress the surging emotions.
Changbai, with a clear mind, said, "Madam, Second Master is not feeling well and needs to rest. Why don't you go back first?"
Su's mother didn't want to leave, but seeing her son's condition, she had no choice but to go. "Take good care of him."
Changbai: "Yes"
