Chapter 104 Punishment

Xu Jiuyan and Xu Zijin knelt for as long as the princess slept.

The people from the Prince's Mansion sat outside for only a short time.

It wasn't until the person guarding inside came out and said, "Your Highness and Your Highness, the Princess has woken up."

The princess pushed open the door and entered; the princess burst into tears upon seeing her.

"Don't cry, your mother will take you home," the princess said, her heart aching.

The princess asked softly, "Where is the child?"

The princess immediately comforted her, "Yes, the baby is still here, don't be afraid."

She cried for a long time, feeling both wronged and relieved.

A servant brought the medicine and fed it to her. Only then did she say, "Mother, it's not Huanhuan's fault. Please don't blame her. If it weren't for her, perhaps the child..."

The princess was a little displeased. "Why are you still thinking about her at a time like this? Is she really that good?"

"My mother is really kind. Knowing that I couldn't eat, she specially brought her sister to cook for me. I ate a big bowl and I really liked it."

The princess spoke up for her, and the princess said, "Considering that she protected you, I won't hold it against her. But that Xu Jiuyan is truly hateful!"

The princess remained silent; if the child were lost, she would surely make her pay with her life.

"Do you want to go back? Your father, your brother, and I will come and take you home."

The princess shook her head. She didn't want to. Even if her brothers were all married, and even if no one objected, she still didn't want to leave Xu Zijing, despite her constant complaints.

"Mother, you didn't make things difficult for my husband, did you?"

"What use is a man who can't even protect his own wife and children?"

"But he..."

"Alright, don't worry about this anymore. Just focus on getting better. We're here to help you. Don't say anything about this; we'll handle it."

The princess felt very safe and said softly, "Mother, I want to move out. His family is so annoying."

The princess tucked the blanket around her, her voice full of affection: "How could your mother not do as you please? I've already sent people to clean up the princess's residence. You can go there as soon as you can move around."

Seeing her daughter looking exhausted, she gently patted the blanket to lull her to sleep, just like she did when her daughter was a child.

It was already dark outside. The prince led the others back, leaving only the heir apparent and the princess behind.

The Xu siblings were kneeling in the courtyard. Xu Zijing stood very straight, while Xu Jiuyan, who was used to being delicate, collapsed to the ground and the princess did not call her to get up.

When Liu Huan returned to her residence, Su Yi was so heartbroken that tears almost welled up in his eyes.

Despite the pain, Liu Huan tried to comfort him, saying, "It's nothing, just a minor injury."

Su Wan brought in the prepared medicine. "Drink this medicine first. It was prescribed by the imperial physician. You won't have a fever tonight."

Looking at the dark, black medicine, Liu Huan felt a bitter taste in her mouth.

Seeing that Su Yi's brows were furrowed, she took the drink and drank it down without making a sound.

"Thank you, sister, you're so kind."

A chubby little boy came running in crying, "Auntie, I heard you broke your leg, does that mean you can't walk anymore?"

Su Yi stopped him from lunging forward, "Stand still!"

Guan Yi stood still, wiping away his tears with his chubby hands, looking at Liu Huan with teary eyes, as if he would burst into tears again if she said yes.

"I just sprained my ankle, it's not broken, thank you for your concern."

Hearing that everything was alright, he sniffed and left; his emotions came and went quickly.

"I want to sleep. You guys should go back and rest too. I'll look for Qiu Rong if I need anything later."

Su Yi didn't leave. He told Su Wan to go back first, then sat down and took her hand. "I'll stay with you a little longer. Go to sleep."

Liu Huan thought she wouldn't be able to sleep because someone was watching her, but that wasn't the case. She closed her eyes and fell asleep shortly after.

The next morning, before dawn, Liu Huan woke up in pain, which woke up Su Yi who was by the bedside.

"What's wrong? Does it hurt a lot?"

Liu Huan opened her eyes groggily, "Shitou, what are you still doing here?"

Su Yi, still half-asleep, said in a hoarse voice, "I haven't been here long, is it still in a lot of pain?"

Liu Huan looked at the still-dark sky outside, then at her aching leg, and couldn't help but say, "Yeah, a little."

Su Yi was frantic. "Wait here, I'll have someone prepare your medicine."

Fortunately, the imperial physician prescribed a little more medicine yesterday, otherwise we would really be helpless now.

"Do you have any painkillers?" Liu Huan groaned with a bitter smile. Su Yi pinched the healthy part of her foot and asked, "What kind of painkillers?"

"I ate something that could quickly relieve my pain."

"You mean Mafeisan? I asked yesterday, and they don't have it. The only thing they have is a tribute from the Western Regions, which is priceless and locked up in the palace."

Liu Huan stopped thinking after hearing this, and said, "Fine, then I'm not worthy."

Qiu Rong brought in the medicine, and Su Yi fed it to her. She was still groaning, "Did they not find anything? Could it be a broken bone? Otherwise, why would it hurt so much?"

Su Yi said, "He's an imperial physician, how could he make a wrong diagnosis?" He lifted her feet and placed them in his lap, "Let me rub them for you."

"I wonder how the princess is doing now," Liu Huan tried to change the subject and distract her.

"It's okay, I'll ask again when it's light. It should be fine."

"Okay, remember to tell me when you ask," Liu Huan mumbled, then fell asleep again amidst the pain.

When I woke up again, it was already noon, and Su Wan brought in the food.

"You're awake. Shall we eat in bed or at the table?"

After weighing the pros and cons, Liu Huan decided to get up and eat, fearing that spilling soup on the bed would be a greater loss than gain.

"Sister, can you help me up? I need to sit up to eat."

"Slow down, be careful."

Upon seeing the dishes on the table, Liu Huan lost all hope.

Su Wan joked, "When Shi Tou left, he said to eat light meals recently, otherwise you'll start nagging him again if your wound doesn't heal."

Liu Huan was unconvinced. "Where did I cause trouble?" she said, but then obediently started eating the bok choy.

After finishing their meal, Liu Huan asked, "By the way, is there any news from the princess?"

"Shi Tou sent someone back to tell you that everything is alright and that you shouldn't worry."

Liu Huan breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good, otherwise I would have really let her down."

"Don't overthink it, she won't blame you." Su Wan took her bowl and filled it with rice for her. Liu Huan grinned and said, "That's enough, we can't finish any more."

"Eat more, look how thin you are."

Su Wan went out after finishing her meal. She had rented a shop outside and started a needlework training class, and had already taken in several apprentices.

Liu Huan helped Qiu Rong to the courtyard and sat under the shade of a tree to cool off.

After getting to know them better, I realized that one of the maids was steady and the other loved to gossip.

Qiu Ju, being the gossip she was, started telling her what she had heard as a joke.

"Miss, you don't know, I heard that Miss Xu and Young Master Xu knelt all night, and even when they fainted, they weren't allowed to get up."

Liu Huan snorted, "Then she deserves it, let her harm others."

Qiuju nodded emphatically: "Exactly, they even tried to frame Miss, that's really going too far."
