If she remembered correctly, her space was a hollow tree trunk, a dry tree trunk with the inside hollowed out, and the whole place was yellowish-brown!
But now, at this moment, the yellowish color has obviously faded, and it seems... there is even a faint hint of green emerging?
Was it just her imagination?
She looked around carefully again and found that apart from a slight change in color, there was nothing else unusual in the space, and the supplies she had stored inside were also correct.
"Mom!" Jiang Xiaoxin suddenly called out to her, and a pair of soft little hands suddenly gripped hers tightly.
Jiang Wan noticed her unease, finally snapping out of her reverie in the tree hole space, and softly asked her, "What's wrong?"
Jiang Xiaoxin leaned against her thigh, looking timid and scared, staring out the window in one direction, constantly trying to hide behind her.
What's wrong?
Jiang Wan looked up and followed her gaze, only to see Cheng Zhen striding towards them with a dark and sullen face. His domineering aura unconsciously overflowed, giving off an air of "keep away, or we'll kill you without mercy."
"What are you doing?" Jiang Wan asked coldly.
Reminded by her, Cheng Zhen saw Jiang Xiaoxin's pitiful appearance, who was terrified. She immediately said "Oh, oh" twice, and her expression and aura softened considerably.
But the twins didn't listen to him. Jiang Xiaoxin pouted and gave a soft "humph," refusing to look at him.
Jiang Xiaoshu came over as soon as she heard the noise and dragged the bag containing the crystals to Jiang Wan's feet: "Mom, please keep this for me."
Then, she took her sister's hand and silently comforted her, leading her into the RV. In front of Cheng Zhen, she slammed the door shut with a "bang," her little face expressionless and her expression very cold.
Cheng Zhen had just felt that her relationship with them was getting warmer, but due to a moment of carelessness, it seems to have fallen back to freezing point.
He couldn't help but run his fingers through his short hair in frustration. Beset by internal and external troubles, he was having a really tough time!
He was really annoyed; even being by Jiang Wan's side couldn't stop his irritability.
"Is there something you need?" Jiang Wan felt she didn't have much of a relationship with him, so he must have come to her for something. Could it be that there was a problem with the Hundred-Petal Grass? Or had he found some other unfamiliar plant?
She wanted to remind him that Xin Xin and Xiao Shu were only three years old, and with his fierce demeanor, it was impossible for the two children not to be afraid of him. Did he really think he could get along with them? Ha! He was dreaming!
But the words she was about to say were swallowed back down her throat.
Why remind him? So he can use all sorts of tricks to soothe the little one, and then come and try to take the child from her?
"If there's nothing else, I'll go up."
Her expression was indifferent. After speaking, she really got into the car. It was getting late, and the two little ones must be hungry. Besides, she had prepared the food but hadn't put it in the tree hole space. It was just left outside. If they didn't eat it soon, it would get cold.
Cheng Zhen immediately followed, and even opened the door for her with extra courtesy. Then, trying to calm her emotions and expression, she smiled and said, "I'll stay with you. Perfect timing, I'm hungry too."
He originally came to her seeking comfort, but with one thing after another piling up, he felt that if the restless energy within him wasn't calmed down, it would really explode on the spot!
Jiang Wan frowned, instinctively feeling unwelcome, but he was standing right behind her, and if she leaned back even slightly, she could press her body against his chest.
Too close!
The man's intense masculine aura surrounded her, a strange feeling that made them seem very intimate. She felt quite repulsed and subconsciously took a step forward.
She was already standing on the steps by the car door, and with this step, she was standing right at the car door.
Cheng Zhen smiled, just as he had hoped. With a gentle push, he shoved her into the car, then got in himself and locked the door behind him.
He took off his oxygen mask, took a comfortable breath of the fresh air in the car that carried her scent, and exhaled sincerely. His mood improved considerably, and the restlessness in his body instantly subsided.
Then his gaze swept across the dining table, looked at the two little ones, and said gently, "Are you hungry? Let's eat, Uncle will eat with you."
As he spoke, he automatically took out bowls and chopsticks, and then casually served rice to the mother and her two children.
The space inside the RV is only so big. If someone as big as him stands in the middle, no one else can get a hand in.
Jiang Wan frowned, then let him be, and beckoned the two little ones to sit down: "Never mind him, let's eat."
Jiang Wan didn't care about him at all, and even treated him like he wasn't there, but when Cheng Zhen was by her side, he felt very calm and his mind didn't explode.
However, in an oxygen-deprived apocalypse, tranquility and peace are destined to be luxuries!
He hadn't finished his meal when he suddenly heard a commotion outside the car. Judging from the noise, it sounded like people were fighting.
Cheng Zhen's eyes darkened. He ate all the rice in his bowl, took a big gulp of bone broth, licked his lips, stood up, and left with a sullen face.
Jiang Xiaoxin curled her lip in disgust: "What a rude person!"
Jiang Wan lifted her eyelids and glanced at her and Jiang Xiaoshu. After thinking for a moment, she felt that there were some things she needed to make clear to them: "You are both sensible now, and you should know that he is most likely your biological father."
The two children stopped eating at the same time, but Jiang Xiaoshu's expression was slightly cold, while Jiang Xiaoxin's eyes showed hurt.
Mom, do you still want to send them away?
"Therefore, you don't need to be afraid of him."
As for whether the two children accept him or not, what does that have to do with her?
It would be better if they didn't accept it.
The two little ones kept waiting and waiting, but their mother stopped talking and continued eating as if nothing had happened. So, that was the end of it?
The three-year-old brother and sister exchanged a glance, then, unusually, kept their mouths shut and didn't say a word, before poking at the last remaining chicken leg on the plate.
Jiang Xiaoshu silently gave it to her younger sister.
The younger sister, however, didn't seem happy. She muttered under her breath, "It's all that weird uncle's fault. We were supposed to each have two chicken legs, but he ate three by himself as soon as he came!"
Suppressing her reluctance, she placed the chicken leg in her mother's bowl and said obediently, "Mom, you eat this. You haven't eaten yet. My brother and I have already eaten!"
Jiang Wan smiled slightly, feeling that she hadn't raised them for so long in vain. She used her chopsticks to poke along the bone, picked off the meat, and divided it in half for each of the siblings: "Mom doesn't eat, you two eat."
After the meal, the noise outside did not subside; in fact, it seemed to have intensified.
Jiang Wan led the twins for a walk after dinner, passing by in the distance.
Jiang Xiaoxin suddenly grabbed Jiang Wan's hand and whispered in confusion, "Mom, look, that person is so strange!"
Before Jiang Wan could look over, she suddenly screamed urgently, "Ah! Run! He's going to bite!"
