Chapter 60 Bean Shooter

No one slept much last night, and after dinner everyone rested in place until noon.

They only started talking about their experiences after they had regained some composure.

Peng Yu was the first to run to find Peng Ze.

He could barely see anything in the thick fog, carrying a camping lamp.

I stumbled and walked in the darkness for a long time, not knowing where I was.

However, he actually stumbled upon Peng Ze, who was wandering around the small town.

After finding Pengze, he grabbed his younger brother and started walking back.

But after wandering around for a long time, they still couldn't find their way out.

The fog grew thicker and thicker, and the longer Peng Yu stayed in the fog, the more dizzy his head became.

Finally, as he walked, he fainted without anyone noticing.

Then Xia Feng and his team came to their rescue.

Zhou Xinran and Xia Feng also briefly recounted their experiences in the small town.

They were all puzzled as to why Peng Yu and his companion had not been attacked by the alien plant zombie hands.

Peng Yu was also puzzled. The lamp he was holding was too dim, barely illuminating an area the size of a palm, and he couldn't detect any aggressive creatures in the town.

He only noticed the withered, strange vines clinging to the building when he returned.

Peng Ze felt three shadows looming over him: his brother, the crying girl, and the flat-faced girl, surrounding him in the middle.

Backlit, the three people's faces were dark, revealing only their white teeth.

Now they're going to settle accounts with this troublesome brat.

Peng Xiaozhe, weak, pitiful, and helpless, squatted on the ground to accept punishment.

Zhou Lerui made the first move.

"Peng-Xiao-Ze! Explain to me why you ran out in the middle of the night. I know you can understand me, look me in the eye!"

Zhou Lerui pinched Peng Ze's cheeks and pulled them apart, her expression as vicious as a stepmother's.

"Speak up, Peng Xiaozhe! Didn't I tell you not to run around? Why are you so disobedient!" Peng Yu grabbed his younger brother's head with his big hand, wishing he could twist his skull off.

We must teach him a lesson this time. If he runs off again, we won't dare trouble others to risk their lives to find him again.

Zhou Lerui was lucky this time; she didn't turn into a zombie even after being scratched. If something really happened to this young lady, how could he face Young Master Zhou?

The two brothers should atone for their sins with their deaths to prevent them from harming others further.

I'm his bodyguard, so it's hard to tell who's protecting whom.

Peng Xiaozhe's eyes darted around. These three were terrifying; making eye contact was out of the question.

Lin Xuan suddenly remembered the thing that Peng Ze had been holding in his arms during their escape, which Peng Yu had later thrown away.

She quickly took the items out of her spatial storage.

This is a green plant with an oval-shaped fruit hanging from its short, thin, tender green stem.

The fruit has a ring of protrusions at the top, resembling a cannon barrel, and its surface is covered with short hairs. The leaves and stems also have relatively hard thorns.

The whole plant is small, only slightly larger than a bean sprout.

The small pot containing the plant had been smashed, so Lin Xuan found a small flower bowl about the size of her palm and put the soil and plant inside.

"And what is this? Where did you find this thing?"

Lin Xuan held the small flower bowl in both hands and brought it close to Peng Ze's eyes.

Peng Xiaozhe, who was originally in a state of confusion about who he was, where he was, and what was going to do to him, immediately focused his wandering eyes upon seeing this plant.

“Bean Shooter!” he finally spoke.

"Huh? Bean Shooter?" The three of them didn't understand his thought process.

Zhou Lerui, still not satisfied, vigorously rubbed his face until it bled.

Peng Ze was completely out of his body, and now he wouldn't say a word no matter what was asked.

Lin Xuan held the small flower bowl, looking at it from left to right, and suddenly realized what Peng Ze had said.

"Look, doesn't this thing look like the Bean Shooter from that Vegetable vs. Zombies game?"

Peng Yu hadn't played many games, but Zhou Lerui knew about this one.

She leaned closer for a closer look, "It really does look like the Bean Shooter, it really does!"

"Peng Xiaozhe, you didn't run away because of this Bean Shooter, did you?"

Lin Xuan guessed that it might be that Peng Xiaozhe found this strange plant and was then summoned by the ancient tree in the town.

This plant may have some function for the ancient tree.

But how did Peng Xiaozhe obtain this Bean Shooter? Why didn't the mutated plants and ancient trees in the town attack him at first?

The whole thing was extremely strange, yet the key figure in the problem, Peng Xiaozhe, was not someone you could communicate with normally.

The two men used both threats and inducements, even resorting to torture such as tickling his feet and pinching his fingers.

Peng Yu covered his face, unable to bear watching the two little girls tormenting his younger brother, and gave up trying to communicate with them.

My younger brother was diagnosed with autism when he was a child, and he rarely speaks to anyone other than his parents.

Even though he has taken care of his younger brother for so long, he sometimes finds it hard to understand what's going on in his head.

His parents both passed away from illness when he was 23. At that time, he was still in the army, but he retired early to take care of his younger brother.

After that, the two relied on each other for survival. He took care of his younger brother for six years and had a certain understanding of him.

Since meeting Zhou Lerui and Lin Xuan, the younger brother, who rarely shows emotional fluctuations, has become noticeably more expressive.

Her younger brother, who used to only listen to her, actually started finding all sorts of cosmetics that Zhou Lerui had stored in her space, just as she had asked.

She also learned to exchange snacks from her space with Lin Xuan.

Although my brother hadn't known them for very long, the two women made him happy.

He never knew what he could do for his younger brother, but he was content as long as his brother was happy. His brother was his only remaining family member, and he was truly grateful to them from the bottom of his heart.

Zhou Xinran, Zhou Lerui, Lin Xuan, and Xia Feng are all rare and wonderful people. It is their good fortune to have met them in this apocalyptic world.

Peng Ze remained silent for a long time despite being tortured, his face turning red as if he was about to suffocate.

In the end, they couldn't get anything out of the child, so they had to threaten him a few more times, telling him not to run around like that again before letting him go.

Lin Xuan first put the plant that looked like a pea shooter into her space.

Xia Feng and Peng Yu checked and reinforced the minibus again; they needed to leave quickly.

This town has cast a long shadow over everyone; no one wants to stay here for even a moment longer.

The two vehicles got back on the road and slowly drove away from the desolate little gas station.

As everyone watched the town recede into the distance, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Zhou Lerui couldn't hitch a ride with Lin Xuan because of her injury, and Peng Ze was forced to stay with her and couldn't come either.

Lin Xuan was worried that the two girls would be lonely, so she gave them a tablet with copies of TV dramas and variety shows, and also gave them a few bags of snacks.

Lin Xuan was quite reluctant to part, and even wanted to go with them to the minibus, but Xia Feng quickly put her into the car.

He had a stern face, like an old mother trying to stop her son from playing with bad kids. He was so annoyed by these two third wheels, and he didn't want them to lead his good little one astray.
