Chapter 1 What's your name?

"Run!"

Bai Xizhu suddenly woke up with a start, her face covered in a mixture of blood and sweat, which tasted bitter.

The bandages binding her body tightly pulled her back to reality.

I dreamt about things from the past again.

Three years ago, the world changed dramatically. An unknown virus gave birth to a new monster. When the family went out shopping, she was the only one left alive.

The moment the monster pounced, her parents only had time to lift her and her younger brother onto the wall.

The hideous zombies roared and bit off their necks.

She watched helplessly as they fell into a pool of blood, and then watched as they rose in a bizarre manner, struggling to lunge towards her and her brother.

She couldn't catch her panicked younger brother, and he fell. Her parents screamed and rushed towards him...

She jumped down, trying to pull her brother over, but it was too late; the hideous zombies pounced on her.

Purple lightning suddenly spread from afar, and the dense bolts of lightning shattered the zombies beyond recognition. Only her parents and younger brother each had a barely perceptible ice needle in their temples.

Through the flashing lightning, Bai Xizhu saw a man with a cold and aloof face in the distance.

Three years later, she was ambushed by her teammates who had gone out to find supplies. When she woke up, she was locked in this dark and sunless underground research institute.

Unexpectedly, she ran into the man who had saved her back then.

"Bang!"

A soft sound came from beside me.

Bai Xizhu turned her head and met his cold eyes.

Leng Yebai got off the bed, one arm hanging limply. He had broken his own arm to break free of his restraints.

Bai Xizhu felt her body loosen as the blood-covered man cut her bandages with a scalpel.

"Professor Wang, are we really going to cut open their heads this time? That's... such a pity, I don't have enough experimental data yet!"

A sound came from outside the door.

Leng Yebai narrowed his eyes, used his still-mobile arm to lift Bai Xizhu, who was lying down, smashed open the window, and jumped out.

A piercing alarm sounded, and the cold, mechanical voice came over the loudspeaker.

"Attention! Attention! Subjects One and Two have escaped. Shoot them dead on the spot, leaving no survivors!"

"You can't escape with me." Bai Xizhu glanced at the deep corridor. "Put me down!"

Leng Yebai tightened his arms, said nothing, and simply ran forward quickly.

“That time—I’m sorry, they were beyond saving.” The man suddenly spoke.

Bai Xizhu's body tensed slightly, and she managed a weak smile.

"stop!"

A group of people in white coats appeared directly in front of us, each holding a gun.

The stern-faced man staggered and turned around, behind him was a group of people wearing white coats.

"Heh, I was originally planning to dissect your brains thoroughly today, but now it seems..."

A middle-aged man in a white coat gave Bai Xizhu and Leng Yebai a sinister smile.

Bai Xizhu struggled to get off Leng Yebai's shoulder, her cold eyes looking at the people in white coats, firmly engraving their faces in her mind.

"Bang!"

A gunshot rang out, and Bai Xizhu turned around to see the man standing behind her.

Leng Yebai groaned, and blood slowly seeped from his abdomen.

"Why don't we die together!"

Bai Xizhu suddenly smiled sweetly at the person in front of her.

Leng Yebai paused for a moment, his icy gaze softened for a instant, and he slowly nodded.

Bai Xizhu closed her eyes and concentrated all her energy in her brain.

"May I have your name?"

Bai Xizhu heard a deep, hoarse male voice, but before she could answer, she knew nothing more.

In the third year of the apocalypse, a huge energy fluctuation occurred underground in a relatively large survivor base, and more than half of the base was razed to the ground.

"Bang bang bang!"

"Xiao Zhu, dinner's ready!"

Bai Xizhu was awakened by a knock on the door. She sat up abruptly and subconsciously looked around. The gleaming scalpels and various chilling instruments were gone.

Bai Xizhu was momentarily confused. All she could see was pink, the place where she had grown up.

"Xiao Zhu, wake up, it's time to eat! Your dad made your favorite braised pork!"

Bai Xizhu looked at her door, which was trembling slightly as someone outside pounded on it, as if it were about to fall down at any moment.

Bai Xizhu's body suddenly trembled violently, her eyes fixed on the slightly shaking door.

"Xiao Zhu, get up! It's already two in the afternoon!"

Her mother's straightforward and frank voice came from outside the door again.

Bai Xizhu opened her mouth, but it was as if someone had choked her, and she couldn't say a word.

With trembling hands, I picked up the phone that was charging beside me. After several attempts, I finally managed to turn on the screen.

It is now October 21, 2021.

There are three months left until the apocalypse breaks out on January 21, 2022.

Hearing her mother's carefree voice, Bai Xizhu felt a lump in her throat, and tears streamed down her face.

They scrambled out of bed, not even putting on slippers, and hurriedly opened the door.

Outside the door, Wang Yiyun stared blankly at Bai Xizhu, who was shedding tears.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Wang Yiyun asked tentatively. "Did you get dumped again?"

Bai Anhai, who was serving food, heard Bai Xizhu sobbing and quickly put the food on the table and ran over.

"It's okay, it's okay! So what if you got dumped? It's not the first time!" Bai Anhai gently patted Bai Xizhu's shoulder. "Dad made your favorite braised pork, come and try it!"
