Chapter 663 He died later.

"Sir, would you like a plate?"

Bai Yifan could tell at a glance that the old man was craving it.

Bai Yifan might not have been so kind as to invite anyone to eat dumplings, but the old man in front of him was different.

His intuition told him that this was a hidden master!

"I'm not asking, I'm buying! I'm not going to eat and drink for free, I'll exchange things with you! In this world, there's so little good food and drink, I can't let you suffer a loss!"

Grandpa Li grinned and finally pulled a round pearl out from the tattered clothes.

The pearls looked large and round, but they didn't emit a faint fluorescence; they were ordinary pearls.

"Here, can you exchange this for two plates of dumplings?"

As he spoke, Grandpa Li silently swallowed, looking somewhat guilty.

Pearls and gold were once precious, but now they are nothing special; crystal nuclei are the most valuable.

"able!"

Bai Yifan glanced at Bai Xizhu, and seeing her nod, he responded and then brought out the two plates of dumplings that Bai Xizhu hadn't had time to eat from the kitchen.

We couldn't very well let Grandpa Li squat on the ground to eat, so we let him get on the bus and sit down to eat properly.

Grandpa Li quickly placed the pearls in his hand on the table, then picked up his chopsticks and began eating dumplings one bite after another.

It smells so good, really smells amazing!

Not bothering to utter a single word, his mouth never stopped moving, and he didn't even dip the dumpling in any sauce. From the first dumpling to the last, it took Grandpa Li five minutes!

After Mr. Li boarded the bus, the entire bus was filled with the aroma of seafood.

It wasn't a strong, fishy smell, but rather the fresh aroma of seafood, like the taste of the ocean.

"It smells so good! Your dumplings are really delicious. Luckily I'm smart enough to know someone is coming when I see the car. I never thought I could get a free meal."

Grandpa Li patted his bulging belly with satisfaction, a smile on his face.

This family is very nice. I wonder how long they'll be staying here. He'd like to join them for a meal, but I don't know if that's convenient!

"Grandpa, do you live around here? Did you see a middle-aged man who looks similar to him around this morning?"

Bai Xizhu pointed to Leng Yebai's face.

Leng Yebai's face showed no particular expression. When he heard Bai Xizhu's question, his gaze fell on Grandpa Li's face.

A glimmer of hope shone in her cool, clear eyes.

“My home is around here. I used to make a living by fishing. But after this area was designated as a tourist area, I stopped fishing. Now I can only sell seafood in the tourist area. I’m a fishmonger now.” Grandpa Li glanced at Leng Yebai and said, “Today is the first time I’ve seen a living person. I didn’t see anyone else. I also saw a pathetic zombie, which I killed!”

Upon hearing Grandpa Li's answer, Bai Xizhu and Leng Yebai were slightly disappointed.

That's true. This area is so big, it's really not certain that Grandpa Li will run into the base commander who comes here in the middle of the night.

"Sir, is there a safe base around here? Why are you here all alone?"

Bai Yifan curiously smelled the sea scent on Grandpa Li's body, glanced at the vast beach, and wondered what the safe base here looked like.

“There is a safe base, but it’s not close to here. You have to walk a long way to see it. It’s not safe to build a safe base here. There are fewer zombies, but it’s too close to the sea. Those rotting fish that are washed ashore are too small to be cleared. You never know when they will get infected. So no one would build a safe base here.”

Besides the small zombie fish, there may also be huge zombie creatures like zombie whales that rush ashore.

This is more terrifying than a horde of zombies for a safe base.

Even if a safe base were established here, no one would be willing to join it.

It's rare to encounter humans around here. Resources are scarce, and fishing often results in catching zombie fish. No one dares to eat fish caught in the same net as the zombie fish.

Grandpa Li rarely encounters humans; he's mostly alone here.

Why doesn't the old man go to the safe base?

Bai Yifan looked at Grandpa Li's tattered clothes and felt a little curious.

Grandpa Li didn't look like a slovenly person; his face was very clean, only his clothes were a bit torn.

"My home is right here, I'm not going anywhere else."

Grandpa Li sighed, his gaze fixed on a small house not far away, a hint of sadness in his eyes.

Alone.

But they could never leave this "little house".

This is his home. Even though his family is gone, it is still his home. He doesn't know where he can go after leaving here, and he doesn't want to go anywhere else.

I just want to stay at home.

Seeing that Grandpa Li looked so weathered, Bai Yifan instinctively asked him something.

Everyone has their own difficulties. Asking about them can be hurtful, while not asking can earn you more goodwill.

"What else are you doing here besides looking for someone? I've been here almost my whole life, maybe I can help you out!"

Grandpa Li smacked his lips, savoring the taste of the pork and scallion dumplings he had just eaten.

This tastes much better than raw fish or raw crab.

He hasn't eaten cooked food in a long time.

There's nothing he can do; no restaurants are open right now, and he can't cook, so he has to survive on raw seafood.

"We're just here to see Uncle Leng, we have nothing else to do." Bai Yifan shook his head gently.

"Oh, then it'll probably be hard to find. This area is too big. If it goes out to sea, it'll be even harder to find. The sea is too dangerous; I don't even dare to go there!"
