"You trust that zombie that much?"
The base commander looked at Leng Yebai in surprise.
The base commander didn't mean to belittle Zhang Yiming; he just felt that his son seemed cold and aloof, and that he didn't seem to have many friends with anyone other than the Bai family.
If such a highly lethal weapon fell into the hands of an intelligent zombie king, it would be a disaster for humanity.
The base commander thought Zhang Yiming was a good person, but he wasn't entirely comfortable telling Zhang Yiming about that position.
Why did her son seem to show no hesitation at all?
"Is there a problem?"
Leng Yebai did not find this idea inappropriate.
The zombie king is indeed not a good person, but he still has some credibility.
"Aren't you afraid he'll just throw that thing back into the Human Survivors Alliance intact?"
The alliance is planning to use this to deal with Zhang Yiming. If Zhang Yiming gets his hands on it, will he retaliate in kind?
The base commander felt that if the other party was planning to throw this thing at his head, he would definitely throw it back.
“If he wanted to destroy the alliance, he wouldn’t need to go to such lengths,” Leng Yebai said calmly.
The guy who can create a zombie king is not someone to be trifled with.
If he truly stands against humanity, no weapon will be effective.
Leng Yebai maintained his aloof demeanor and spoke in a calm tone.
The base commander couldn't help but look at Leng Yebai.
He really understands his son less and less.
The people his son trusts most are definitely the Bai family, and now Zhang Yiming has joined them.
Regardless of where his biological father ranks, the base commander just felt that his son was showing off.
It's like an ordinary person saying how amazing a friend of theirs is!
"Bang bang bang!"
There was a knock on the door.
The base commander and his men then fell silent. The office was well soundproofed, but the content of their conversation could easily lead humans to believe they were traitors.
Bai Xizhu happened to be standing at the doorway. Seeing that neither the base commander nor Leng Yebai spoke, she casually opened the door.
Standing outside the door was a girl who looked not much older than Bai Yifan, Zhang Chen.
She was wearing a simple white short-sleeved shirt and jeans, holding a large food box in her hands, and glanced timidly into the office.
With just one glance, she saw the man she hadn't seen for days.
That day, the base commander told her not to leave the safe base, and she thought it was because the base commander cared about her and was afraid that she would be in danger if she went out.
After that day, the base commander never spoke a word to her again. Even when they met, he treated her like a stranger, with a cold expression.
She tried to catch up with him, but the base commander didn't give her any chance to get close.
Sometimes, Zhang Chen could even discern other emotions in his eyes.
That emotion was peculiar; it wasn't liking or disliking, but rather a very suppressed and restrained feeling.
Zhang Chen didn't know what he was restraining.
After leaving the safe base one time, the base commander returned with one arm missing. Zhang Chen made soup for him several times and brought it over, but the base commander refused to accept it.
This time, Zhang Chen came again.
Her hands looked a little red and swollen; she was so focused on making the soup that she didn't even notice she had burned her fingers.
"You're here too! Come and try the soup I made! It's mushroom and chicken soup, does Xiaozhu like it?"
Zhang Chen didn't dare to look directly at the base commander, and only smiled as he spoke to Bai Xizhu.
She thought she was probably possessed.
The man in front of her, who was many years older than her, appeared in her mind every day.
Throughout her life, all happiness she experienced was fleeting; she never truly found peace. The fate of being a cursed lone star was forever etched upon her.
Friends, family, and even neighbors will die one after another because of her appearance.
Later, she never dared to get too close to others until that day when she saw the base commander.
Although it was their first meeting, she felt as if they had met before, as if it were the guidance of fate and the first flutter in her heart.
From then on, she could no longer see any other men.
Bai Xizhu glanced at the base commander's gloomy face, unsure whether she liked or disliked the mushroom and chicken soup.
Before Bai Xizhu could even speak, the rich aroma of chicken soup filled the office.
A bowl of chicken soup with a few mushrooms floating on top was handed to Bai Xizhu.
The chicken soup was skimmed of butter, making it look light and not greasy.
"Thanks."
Bai Xizhu eventually accepted the chicken soup.
Zhang Chen's pleading eyes were simply too irresistible to refuse.
"Of course."
Zhang Chen glanced at the base commander furtively, speaking very softly.
Everyone here has superpowers, so even if we speak softly, it's enough for everyone to hear us.
Zhang Chen ladled out another bowl and handed it to Leng Yebai.
Seeing Bai Xizhu sipping the wine with relish, Leng Yebai took the cup from her.
Seeing that Leng Yebai and Bai Xizhu had both accepted the chicken soup, Zhang Chen's smile grew even brighter.
However, this smile was tinged with the glow of maternal love.
There wasn't much chicken soup in the small pot to begin with, just enough for three bowls. Zhang Chen carefully carried the last bowl of chicken soup and placed it in front of the base commander.
"Try it! If there's anything wrong, I'll make it again."
Zhang Chen's voice was low and soft.
Fresh chicken isn't easy to buy, and for some time now, Zhang Chen has been following the instructions of the base manager.
He said not to leave the safe zone, and she really wouldn't go out.
