"As long as you can move, you have to work. You can't just eat and drink for free!"
Old Master Tao smiled calmly and walked unsteadily toward the door.
"This is the first time I've ever seen zombies working. If the old man doesn't mind us getting in the way, of course we'll go and take a look."
Bai Anhai's face was full of curiosity.
The Bai family has all seen the Zombie King work.
I've hardly ever seen zombies working.
"If you don't mind, let's go take a look together!" said Old Tao.
Everyone in Peach Village treated the zombie as an important member of their family.
Tao Lao didn't mind letting outsiders see the scene of humans and zombies living in harmony. In fact, he wanted everyone to know that zombies were not just containers for providing crystal cores.
But no outsider ever appreciates all of this; they treat it like a snake or a scorpion and avoid it at all costs.
Whether others mind or not, the Bai family doesn't really know, but the Bai family truly doesn't mind.
Some people followed Old Tao out the door, where several zombies with rotting flesh on their faces were already standing.
Their eyes were vacant, staring in one direction, their expressions unreadable, showing neither sorrow nor joy.
Each zombie was dressed cleanly, except that their slightly blackened teeth had a hint of blood.
These are traces left after they ate their "lunch".
As soon as Old Tao appeared, the zombies started to move.
Old Tao and the Bai family were at the very back of the zombie horde, with clean-looking zombies joining them every now and then as they walked out of the village together.
Some people bring their own zombies to their doorsteps and watch them walk away.
Just like parents sending their children to school.
The villagers didn't react much to the Bai family members who were following Tao Lao.
They were quite accepting of the fact that people from other villages disliked Tao Village.
The most important thing is having family by my side; I don't care what others think.
Not all the villagers of Peach Village can accept their zombie relatives. Those who cannot accept them have left the village, leaving only villagers who cannot sever their family ties.
They can accept zombies and are prepared to be rolled their eyes at by others.
Most of the villagers are simple and honest, and they remained hesitant until the Bai family showed any sign of disdain for them.
Heavy footsteps echoed from all sides of the village, and the zombie horde grew stronger and stronger.
By the time they reached the edge of the village, the group already had over a hundred zombies.
"Grandpa, what kind of work are they going to do?"
Bai Yifan glanced curiously at the zombie with its limbs stiff.
They only become more active and move around more when they are tearing flesh and blood.
In most cases, they're just dullards; they can't even hold a hoe properly!
"They do everything, planting trees, watering them, protecting the village; they can do so many things."
Old Tao's wrinkled eyelids curved slightly, giving him a proud look.
Zombies are like newborn babies.
If you don't teach them, they'll never learn.
They may forget what you've taught them, but that's okay. All children are the same; you can just teach them a few more times.
The old man has lived for a century, and patience is his greatest treasure.
He had no children of his own, and these zombies were all raised by him, so he regarded them as his children.
As parents, we are the most patient when teaching our children new things.
"Planted trees?" Bai Yifan glanced at the rows of peach trees, somewhat incredulous. "Did they plant all of these?"
The entire village was enveloped in a sea of peach blossoms; planting so many peach trees must have been a massive undertaking.
"Yes! They planted them all!"
Old Peach smiled and stretched out his finger, green light overflowing from the dry fingertip and falling on the peach trees on both sides.
The pink peach tree swayed in the wind, as if giving thanks for this little bit of green life.
Bai Yifan was dumbfounded.
It's unimaginable what it would be like to see zombies planting peach trees.
We walked some more distance.
The horde of zombies in front suddenly stopped, standing motionless on the open ground, waiting for the zombie king's command.
There were dug holes, hoes, and peach saplings that hadn't been planted yet on the open ground.
Centered on Elder Tao, a powerful brainwave emanated from him, a brainwave that only zombies could receive.
The zombie horde began to move, splitting into two groups.
There was a large group of zombies, mostly elderly zombies or women and children.
There was also a small group of young zombies who looked very strong, and some of them even had special abilities.
The old, weak, sick, and disabled zombies stiffly bent down and took five minutes to finally grasp the hoe with their stiff fingers.
They move slowly and appear weak.
The hoe fell to the ground, barely creating a shallow crater.
He's not even as strong as an eight or nine-year-old child.
Zombies seem to be born with no talent for manual labor, only for devouring flesh and blood.
When it devours flesh and blood, the force it unleashes can clamp down on an adult's body.
When digging holes to plant trees, it takes half a day to dig one hole.
Some people dug holes.
Some people were carrying basins of water, their hands trembling as they poured the water.
Some were lying on the ground, preparing to push soil to bury the saplings.
Each zombie worked with an expressionless, empty gaze, appearing half-hearted.
The Bai family watched the zombies working with great interest, when suddenly a bold idea came to them.
These zombies aren't very efficient at working, but it's better than nothing. If they accumulate to a certain number, they might become a huge workforce.
But the prerequisite is that someone in the family must be a zombie.
