Chapter 22: Quarrel
It was the first time Yan Sui and Lin Jingyang met, and they didn't have much to talk about.
She always had a knot in her heart. Even though the other person was her target, it was difficult for her to open up and talk too much with someone she met for the first time.
Fortunately, Lin Jingyang was also a person who knew how to read people's expressions. After a few words, he took the initiative to say that he had something to do and had to leave first.
Yan Sui nodded without saying anything more.
Watching Lin Jingyang's back disappearing around the corner of the stairs, Yan Sui still stood at the highest point, looking down below, motionless.
When the footsteps in the stairwell faded away, she looked at the empty staircase and said, "How high is his favorability?"
The system appeared in her mind at the right moment: "Host, I have checked for you and found that Lin Jingyang's favorability has reached 60%."
Yan Sui sneered twice and said nothing.
The system that always loved to urge her to complete tasks also rarely continued to speak. Apart from the last sentence, her mind was as quiet as a chicken.
"He has a problem, why don't you say it?" After waiting for a long time and seeing no response from the system, Yan Sui had to take the initiative.
System: "I don't understand what you mean, Host."
"You know what I mean," Yan Sui said affirmatively, her tone becoming much colder. "There's something wrong with him."
system:"......"
Lin Jingyang's strangeness, the fear of being targeted by an unknown entity, had been suppressed by Yan Sui since that afternoon in the office. During the brief moment they'd spent together in the stairwell, she had been observing him.
Although the other party kept telling jokes to ease her guard, his excessive enthusiasm made Yan Sui's nerves tense and she dared not relax for a moment.
She had been observing him the entire time. Even though she laughed a few times to please his jokes, her curiosity about him had not diminished at all.
But the more she read, the more she felt that Lin Jingyang had some serious problems.
Is this weird person deliberately arranged by the system, or is it a system error?
Did the system know about Lin Jingyang's problems? Yan Sui had no idea.
If the system knew about Lin Jingyang's strangeness, and it was deliberately arranged for her...
Yan Sui didn't dare to think about it, she just felt it was terrifying to think about it carefully.
Then everything she did after her rebirth, including herself, was a pawn in the hands of the system, controlled by it.
Yan Sui forced herself to calm down and confronted the system in a cold voice: "You always knew there was something wrong with him, so you deliberately chose him as my target, right?"
The system was silent for two seconds, and in a trance, Yan Sui seemed to feel that the system seemed to sigh.
"Host, when I chose him, I didn't expect the favorability bar to be like this."
There seemed to be some helplessness in its cold mechanical voice.
Yan Sui frowned, pondering the credibility of the system's words, and tentatively asked, "You mean, he's out of your control?"
She calmed down and paid full attention to every voice in her head.
She wanted to judge the credibility of this statement from the other party's voice.
However, the system did not answer her question. Instead, it said, "No matter how unacceptable the strangeness of Lin Jingyang is to the host, please overcome it."
"Please believe me, host. Everything I do is for your own good."
"Lin Jingyang is the person who is most suitable for the host after my data matching."
—
After evening get out of class, Yan Sui and Tan Shu went home together.
Taxis cannot enter the residential complex without registration. Tan Shu hadn't had dinner yet and was feeling a bit hungry, so the two of them got off the car at the night market in front of the residential complex.
Yan Sui didn't have dinner either. She originally planned to go to the store to buy some bread to fill her stomach, but Lin Jingyang's sudden appearance disrupted her plans.
After Lin Jingyang left, Yan Sui considered the meaning of the system's words and decided not to go to the convenience store.
At this moment, Tan Shu was buying octopus balls at a night market stall.
The aroma of the meatballs being fried in the concave pan wafted into Yan Sui's nostrils, arousing her appetite, and her stomach growled twice at the right time.
Remembering that I had nothing to eat for dinner, I bought two servings.
One for yourself and one for your mother.
The junior high school that Yan Jiaping and Yan Jiaan attend is a boarding school. They come back every Friday to spend the weekend and return to school on Sunday night.
Yan Zhaoting rarely goes home except on weekends, and usually Sui Yuling is the only one at home.
When Yan Sui returned home, the house was brightly lit, with the lights in the living room and kitchen on, but no one was there.
She called out "Mom" twice, but didn't get the response she wanted.
Yan Sui frowned and was about to take out her cell phone from her pocket to call Sui Yuling when she heard the sound of breaking glass from upstairs.
She paused, without time to think, she grabbed the handrail and ran upstairs.
The voice came from Yan Zhaoting's study. Yan Sui pushed the door open and shouted, "Mom!"
In the study, Yan Sui noticed Sui Yuling squatting in front of the shelf and sorting out the fragments on the floor.
She suddenly barged in, leaving Sui Yuling with no time to stand up. She was still clutching the fragments she'd been collecting. The moment her eyes met hers, a flicker of surprise crossed her face. She quickly tilted her head to the side, facing her from behind, as if trying to hide something.
Yan Sui's gaze turned to the desk. Yan Zhaoting's face flushed, his chest heaving. He looked at Yan Sui standing at the door with an impatient expression, but said nothing. He then glanced coldly at Sui Yuling, who was squatting on the ground sorting things, snorted, and turned his gaze away.
Yan Sui straightened the corners of her lips, no longer looking at the person at the desk, and walked straight towards Sui Yuling.
She bent down and placed her fingers on Sui Yuling's arm, "Mom, get up."
Sui Yuling refused to get up. She gently turned her arm to avoid Yan Sui's hand and said in a low voice, "Wait a minute, wait until Mom finishes cleaning up the debris on the ground."
Yan Sui refused and grabbed her arm again, pulling her up from the ground forcefully.
She was stronger than Sui Yuling, who was caught off guard and was pulled up from the ground by her.
After standing up, Sui Yuling lowered her head in a panic, and used her other free hand to press Yan Sui's shoulders and turn her body in another direction.
Although it was only for a moment, Yan Sui still noticed Sui Yuling's red eyes.
"mom--"
She was about to ask in detail when Sui Yuling interrupted her with a trembling voice: "Sui, Sui Sui..."
Yan Sui was pushed towards the door by the other party. As she walked, Sui Yuling said, "Let's go. Don't disturb Dad from working here."
"you--"
"Mom made you a midnight snack. It's still in the pot. I'll take you downstairs to have a look."
Sui Yuling's voice trembled and her breathing was unstable.
Although she tried her best to hide the sob in her voice, Yan Sui could still tell from her words that she had just cried.
Yan Sui was pushed all the way out of the study. After stepping out of the study, Sui Yuling turned around and gently closed the study door.
Just as she was about to speak, Sui Yuling held her hand. She gestured for silence and walked downstairs first.
Yan Sui had no choice but to keep quiet and followed Sui Yuling down the stairs in silence.
Sui Yuling led her to the kitchen, made Yan Sui sit down at the dining table, and then turned around and placed the simmering soup in front of Yan Sui. "This is the flavor that Mom has newly researched. It clears away heat and toxins, and also has a calming effect. Sui Sui, help Mom taste it and see if it tastes good."
Yan Sui couldn't hold her breath and ignored the soup in front of her, "Mom——"
"Oh yes, let me get you a spoon." Sui Yuling turned around and found a spoon and put it in Yan Sui's hand.
Without waiting for Yan Sui to speak, she turned around and searched around in the kitchen while continuing to talk to herself.
Yan Sui watched her rummaging aimlessly in the kitchen, picking things up and putting them down without even looking at her.
She couldn't help but get angry, so she leaned over and grabbed Sui Yuling's wrist: "Mom, can you please stop looking around? Why are you hiding? What did you do just now?"
Sui Yuling's body stiffened, but she still held her neck stiff and didn't turn back: "No, it's nothing, we are fine."
"Your excuse is not enough to deceive Ping An and the others, and you still want to deceive me?"
Yan Sui forcefully pulled Sui Yuling to sit on the chair, "What happened to you two? Did you have a fight?"
"No, nothing, we just had a few words." Sui Yuling avoided her gaze and didn't dare to look at her.
Only then did Yan Sui notice that one of Sui Yuling's cheekbones was a little red and swollen.
In an instant, the rage that had been pent up in her heart surged up, and she jumped up from her chair: "Did he hit you?"
Without waiting for Sui Yuling to answer, Yan Sui turned around and wanted to go upstairs to find Yan Zhaoting.
Sui Yuling quickly stood up and pulled her back: "Sui Sui."
Yan Sui's anger surged, and her eyes were filled with anger: "Don't pull me, I'm going to find him."
"Mom Sui Sui is fine, calm down."
Yan Sui turned around and said angrily, "He's already hit you, so why don't you just stop caring about him?"
Sui Yuling said anxiously: "Your father didn't hit you. Your mother bumped into you accidentally."
She hurriedly explained, "Really? I didn't lie to you. I was arguing with your father just now and I was so angry that I turned away. When I turned to leave, I didn't pay attention to the shelf next to me and bumped into it. My face hit the shelf panel, which tilted it and accidentally knocked the vase off."
Yan Sui stared at her, his lips tight: "You're not protecting him, are you?"
"How could that be?" Sui Yuling grabbed Yan Sui's arm, "And why would your father hit me? He's been beating me since I was a child. Have you ever seen your father hit your mother?"
Yan Sui pursed her lips tightly and said nothing. The anger on her face had not faded, but she was no longer as out of control as before.
Sui Yuling pulled Yan Sui back to her seat, stroking her back again and again with her palms: "Okay, okay, don't be angry. Mom knows you are worried about me, but I'm fine, so don't worry. Come and try the soup that Mom made for you!"
Hearing this, Yan Sui turned sideways and grabbed Sui Yuling's fingers: "Mom, don't lie to me. I told you, no matter what, don't lie to me."
Sui Yuling stood beside her and hugged her: "Mom didn't lie to you, it's true."
Yan Sui didn't say anything else, but the hand holding Sui Yuling's fingers kept tightening.
She didn't know why, but she was a little scared.
She was afraid that Sui Yuling would hide Yan Zhaoting's affairs from her.
After returning to this life, she didn't want to, and couldn't, let Sui Yuling experience the same things she had experienced in her previous life.
