Chapter 141: The first birthday banquet, hidden murderous intention

The guards took command and sprang into action. Jiang Yan turned to the housekeeper and said, "Housekeeper, check to see which outsiders have entered the Prime Minister's residence today, especially during the time the child disappeared. Also, notify the servants in the residence and have them ask each other if anyone has noticed anything unusual."

The housekeeper nodded and hurried to make arrangements. Jiang Yan took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He knew that at this critical moment, he couldn't panic and had to remain calm in order to better deal with the crisis at hand.

Su Jinli paced back and forth in the room, her heart filled with worry and self-blame. She kept wondering if it was her failure to take good care of the children that put them in danger. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she told herself that now was not the time to cry. She had to be strong and believe that Jiang Yan and his family would definitely find their children.

Time ticked by, each second seeming to stretch as long as a year. The atmosphere within the Prime Minister's residence was tense to the point of utter indignation, as everyone frantically searched for the children. Meanwhile, in a secluded corner of the residence, a dark figure cradled two children, carefully avoiding the searching crowd. A black cloth covered the figure's face, obscuring its features, but a hint of nervousness and panic could be seen in his eyes.

The shadowy figure gently soothed the crying children in his arms, saying, "Don't cry, don't cry, or you'll attract someone." However, the children, as if sensing danger, cried louder and louder. The shadowy figure grew anxious, looking around for a place to hide. Just then, he heard footsteps and shouts not far away. Startled, he quickly ran in the other direction, carrying the children.

Jiang Yan, leading a team of guards, was searching everywhere. He carefully observed everything around him, not missing any details. Suddenly, he heard a faint cry. He was delighted and signaled the guards to be quiet, then walked in the direction of the cry. However, when they arrived, they only saw some trampled grass and fallen leaves, but the child was gone. Jiang Yan frowned, thinking to himself: "The murderer must have heard our movements and moved away in advance."

After searching the garden for a while, Young Marquis Su and Su Qingyao returned to the main hall. Their faces were filled with fatigue and disappointment. Young Marquis Su said, "Brother-in-law, there's no sign of the child in the garden. What should we do next?"

Jiang Yan pondered for a moment and said, "We can't just search within the Prime Minister's residence. The murderer may have already left with the child. We need to expand the search area and notify the authorities in the capital to assist us in the search. At the same time, we need to carefully investigate everyone in the Prime Minister's residence to see if there is a traitor."

Su Qingyao nodded and said, "Brother-in-law is right. We can't let go of any possible clues. I don't believe they can disappear with the child."

Jiang Yan immediately sent someone to the capital to report the case, detailing the child's characteristics and the circumstances of his disappearance. Upon learning of the incident, the authorities took it very seriously and immediately mobilized a large number of personnel to search every corner of the capital.

Inside the Prime Minister's residence, the investigation of the servants was also underway intensively. Jiang Yan and Su Jinli personally interrogated each person, hoping to uncover some clues. However, after a thorough interrogation, nothing suspicious was found. Jiang Yan felt somewhat frustrated, but he didn't give up. He knew that now was not the time to give up.

Just as everyone was getting extremely anxious, a guard rushed in and said, "Master Jiang, we found some strange footprints in an alley outside the Prime Minister's Mansion. They looked like someone was walking by in a hurry while holding a child."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yan immediately said, "Quick, take me to see!" He brought Young Marquis Su and some guards, and followed the guard to the alley outside the Prime Minister's residence. Sure enough, there were some clear footprints on the muddy ground. The shape of the footprints showed that the person was in a hurry and seemed to be carrying something heavy.

Jiang Yan followed the footprints, silently praying that he would find the child as soon as possible. However, the footprints disappeared at a fork in the road, as if the murderer had split into two groups. Jiang Yan frowned, thought for a moment, and decided to split up and continue the search.

Young Marquis Su led a group of men in pursuit, heading left, while Jiang Yan led another group in pursuit, heading right. Along the way, Jiang Yan was terribly anxious, constantly urging the guards to speed up. He was filled with worry, wondering if the children were safe and if they had been harmed.

Elsewhere, Young Marquis Su and his guards chased after the children, but they couldn't find any trace of them. He was extremely anxious, eager to find the murderer and rescue the children. Just as he was about to despair, an old man passing by said, "I just saw someone holding two children, heading west of the city."

Upon hearing this, Young Marquis Su immediately thanked the old man and led his guards in pursuit towards the west of the city. Meanwhile, Jiang Yan and his team had discovered some new clues on the road to the right. They found a piece of cloth on a tree by the roadside, the same material as the one Su Qingyao had found earlier. Jiang Yan's heart tightened, knowing he had found the right direction, and he continued along the same road.

As the search deepened, Jiang Yan and Young Marquis Su were getting closer to the truth. Meanwhile, a dark figure, holding a child, was hiding in an abandoned warehouse west of the city. He looked at the crying child in his arms, feeling a surge of regret for his actions. But now that things had come to this, he had no way back.

Just as the shadow was hesitating about what to do, footsteps suddenly sounded outside the warehouse. Startled, the shadow quickly hugged the child and hid in a corner. He knew he might have been discovered.
