Chapter 272: Looking for Baozi on the Journey

Jiang Xiaohuang led Mo Chen out of the capital, heading south. Initially, Jiang Xiaohuang had considered hiring a comfortable carriage, hoping to enjoy the scenery and rest during the long journey. However, Mo Chen suggested riding a horse, which would be faster and more flexible to evade potential pursuers. Jiang Xiaohuang's heart burst with joy. She had been dreading the chance to gallop freely, and she immediately clapped her hands in approval, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

The two arrived at the post station and selected two strong, fast horses. The horses were sturdy and their hooves were light, as if they were ready to gallop across the land at any moment. Jiang Xiaohuang climbed onto the horses and gripped the reins tightly, her eyes filled with anticipation and eagerness. With a crisp crack of the whip, they galloped away like arrows.

Jiang Xiaohuang was embarking on such a long journey for the first time in her life, and everything she saw was filled with novelty and interest. Like a lively little elf, she would excitedly point at the wildflowers blooming by the roadside, calling out to Mo Chen to admire the vibrant colors with her. Then, unable to contain her inner joy, she would stop her horse and chase the fluttering butterflies. She looked like a child lost in the embrace of nature, her search for the "best buns in the world" completely forgotten.

Mo Chen followed her quietly, his eyes following Jiang Xiaohuang's figure. Watching her chirping and jumping like a happy little bird, the corners of Mo Chen's mouth lifted slightly, revealing a subtle, gentle smile. Although his injuries hadn't healed yet and were aching from the long hours of riding, the sight of Jiang Xiaohuang's beaming face seemed to alleviate the pain.

"Mo Chen, look what that is?" Jiang Xiaohuang suddenly pointed at a small town looming in front of her and shouted excitedly. Her voice echoed in the air, filled with surprise and curiosity.

Mo Chen raised his eyes slightly, looked into the distance, and said calmly: "The town ahead is Jiming Town. We can rest there tonight."

As they drew closer to the town, Jiang Xiaohuang could no longer contain her excitement. Upon entering, she headed straight for the largest inn. She strode through the door with great swiftness and shouted with full energy, "Boss, two rooms upstairs, and ten more meat buns!" Her voice was resounding and clear, instantly drawing the attention of everyone inside.

The shopkeeper saw that although she was dressed as a servant, her every move showed extraordinary dignity. He did not dare to neglect her at all and quickly responded with a smile on his face: "Okay, please wait a moment, sir!"

Mo Chen followed her silently up the stairs. He leaned closer to Jiang Xiaohuang and said in a low voice, "As a girl, you'd better not speak so loudly."

Jiang Xiaohuang stuck out her tongue playfully and responded with a smile, "I know, Master Mo Chen."

After dinner, Jiang Xiaohuang rubbed her round belly with a caress. She sighed slightly and said with a hint of disappointment, "This bun is too ordinary. It's definitely not the legendary best in the world."

Mo Chen looked at her serious expression and couldn't help but ask, "How can you be so sure that the best buns in the world are in Jiangnan?"

"It's written in my grandmother's storybook!" Jiang Xiaohuang answered as a matter of course, her eyes full of confidence, "My grandmother is a master of storybooks. If she said it's in her storybook, then it must be there!"

Mo Chen couldn't help but laugh after hearing this. During the time he spent with Jiang Xiaohuang, he felt that although this girl was extremely bold, she was sometimes so naive that it made people laugh, but she was also very cute.

Late at night, all was silent, the entire world seemed to have fallen into a deep sleep. However, Mo Chen was startled awake by a subtle noise. He stood up alertly, tiptoed to the window, and cautiously peered out. He saw several men in black lingering around the inn like ghosts. They were nimble and agile, their eyes revealing a chilling aura. Mo Chen's heart tightened, and his brows furrowed unconsciously. It seemed the pursuers had finally arrived.

He quietly returned to the room. Jiang Xiaohuang was sleeping soundly, breathing evenly, with a trace of saliva hanging from the corner of her mouth. She looked very cute. Mo Chen hesitated for a moment, but finally shook her awake gently.

"Xiao Huang, wake up, the pursuers are coming." Mo Chen said softly. Although his voice was soft, it was filled with a hint of urgency.

Jiang Xiaohuang drowsily opened her eyes and asked sleepily, "Who is it? Is it someone from the bun shop?"

Mo Chen gave a helpless smile and said, "They are the ones chasing me. We have to leave here quickly."

Jiang Xiaohuang woke up instantly, the sleepiness in her eyes swept away. She quickly and swiftly packed up her things and whispered, "Go through the window?"

"Yeah." Mo Chen responded briefly.

The two of them climbed out of the window quietly. Mo Chen endured the pain from his wounds and stayed by Jiang Xiaohuang's side. They carefully went to the stables and led out the horses. As soon as they left the town, the men in black spotted them and gave chase.

"Stop!" The leading man in black shouted loudly, his voice echoing in the silent night sky, full of deterrence.

Without a word, Mo Chen spurred his horse into a gallop. Jiang Xiaohuang followed closely behind. Although she was inevitably a little scared, she took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down when she remembered her grandmother's daily teachings.

"Mo Chen, run to the east, there is a forest over there!" Jiang Xiaohuang shouted loudly, relying on his familiarity with the terrain.

The two rushed into the woods like a gust of wind. Seeing this, the man in black chased after them without hesitation. The trees in the woods were lush and green, with branches and leaves crisscrossing and forming a complex terrain. Mo Chen and Jiang Xiaohuang dodged left and right in the woods, trying to shake off their pursuers. However, an accident suddenly occurred. Jiang Xiaohuang's horse accidentally tripped over a vine, and she screamed, about to fall to the ground.
