Chapter 289 The truth is revealed and the storm begins

In the thick, inky darkness, Jiang Xiaocai and Wang Yi cautiously groped their way along the winding paths of the factory complex, like two ghosts stalking the night, toward the dock. The night was unnervingly quiet, with only a few lanterns swaying lonely in the breeze. Their dim lights cast a shimmering shadow, like a fragmented painting, adding a touch of eeriness to the already mysterious atmosphere. They clung to the wall, each step cautious, as if the slightest mistake might trigger some hidden mechanism. Their heartbeats, resonating distinctly in the suffocating silence, reverberated like drums, hammering at their taut nerves.

Finally, after a long and intense sneak, the vague outline of the dock gradually came into view. On the dock, a dozen burly men were busy, boxes of sugar being methodically loaded onto a large ship. In the night, the ship was like a dormant beast, waiting to return with a full load. Jiang Xiaocai was just about to get closer to take a closer look, his curiosity simmering. Wang Yi, quick-witted and quick-handed, suddenly grabbed him and said in a low, hurried voice, "Wait, something's wrong!"

Looking in the direction Wang Yi pointed, Jiang Xiaocai was stunned. He saw the words "Official Sugar" prominently printed on the sugar packaging. Official sugar was a special commodity supplied exclusively by the imperial court, and private sale was strictly prohibited, with regulations bordering on harsh. And now, the Wang family's factory director had the audacity to smuggle official sugar. Such an act was undoubtedly a heinous crime punishable by death!

"Cousin, we have to spread this news quickly! We must not let his conspiracy succeed!" Jiang Xiaocai was anxious. Although his voice was low, it revealed a firm determination.

Wang Yi nodded emphatically, and the two retreated cautiously without delay. However, fate always seemed to play tricks on them at crucial moments. Halfway through their journey, they heard a flurry of hurried footsteps behind them. Thinking something was amiss, they turned around to see Director Wang and a group of Black Wind Gang thugs charging after them.

"Well, you two little bastards, how dare you ruin my plans? You're simply courting death!" Director Wang's face flushed red like a ripe tomato, his eyes blazing with anger as he roared almost maniacally, "Catch them! Today I'll show them what happens if they go against me!"

Before he could finish his words, the Black Wind Gang descended upon them like hungry wolves, surrounding Jiang Xiaocai and Wang Yi. Jiang Xiaocai and Wang Yi exchanged glances, seeing the same determination in each other's eyes. Without a word, they took off running. However, the enemy was outnumbered and seemed quite familiar with the area. They hadn't gotten far before they were cornered. With an icy wall in front and a ferocious enemy behind them, they felt trapped.

"Run! Why aren't you running? Hahaha!" Director Wang sneered as he slowly approached, his smile filled with pride and ferocity. "Today is the day you die! Dare to go against me, and this is what will happen!"

At this critical moment when life hangs on a thread, a loud shout like a bell suddenly rang out: "Stop!"

Everyone turned around in astonishment, only to see Young Marquis Su, carrying his imposing broadsword and leading a group of servants, charging towards them like a hurricane. Nianli and Su Qingyao were also among the crowd, and behind them were several officials in official uniforms, carrying a majestic presence.

"Boss Wang, you're so brave!" Nian Li's eyes were as cold as ice, and that gaze seemed to penetrate the darkness and pierce the heart of the Wang family's factory director. "Smuggling government sugar, such a heinous crime, do you know your crime?"

Director Wang's expression instantly changed, as if he'd been whipped. But he was, after all, a seasoned veteran in the business world, and he quickly forced himself to remain calm. With a forced smile, he said, "Madam Su, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. Words are useless. What evidence do you have to prove that I was smuggling the government candy? Don't slander me!"

"Evidence?" Jiang Xiaocai glared at him, pulling out the stack of contracts he had prepared long ago and holding them aloft. "This is irrefutable proof of your collusion with the Black Wind Gang! Also, that batch of sugar at the dock with the words 'official sugar' printed on it is irrefutable proof of your illegal activities! What else do you have to say?"

The Wang family's factory director's face instantly turned pale as paper, as if all the life had been drained from him. Seeing this, the Black Wind Gang members knew their situation was hopeless and immediately scattered, each fleeing. The officers then rushed forward and expertly bound the Wang family's factory director, leaving him no chance to resist.

"Take him away!" The leading officer gave the order, his voice firm and powerful, as if declaring the victory of justice.

Watching the Wang family's factory director being taken away by the officials, Jiang Xiaocai finally breathed a sigh of relief, as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his heart. However, fate always has its ups and downs, and before he could bask in the joy of victory, another unexpected event struck like a storm.

"Wait!" A sharp, piercing voice pierced the night air like a blade, piercing everyone's eardrums. Everyone turned around in shock, only to see Liu and a group of people approaching leisurely. Her eyes held an unreadable expression, a mixture of pride and anger.

"Madam Liu, why are you here?" Nian Li frowned, a sense of foreboding welling up in her heart. She knew Madam Liu too well; every time Madam Liu showed up, it seemed like nothing good was going to happen.
