After Su Jinli and Jiang Yan returned to their own mansion, life seemed to have returned to normal. Jiang Yan attended court daily, busy with the affairs of the Dajing Dynasty, while Su Jinli continued to manage her bookstore and occasionally met with other noble ladies in poetry clubs. Her life was fulfilling and sweet.
However, this peace did not last long. One day, Su Jinli was sorting newly arrived storybooks in the bookstore when a maid suddenly rushed in and said in a panic, "Madam, something bad has happened. A princess has come outside and wants to see you by name."
Su Jinli frowned slightly, puzzled. She had never met any princess before, so why did she come to see her? She put down the book in her hand, straightened her clothes, and said, "Please let her in."
After a while, a princess dressed in gorgeous clothes and wearing pearls and jade on her head walked in arrogantly. She glanced at the bookstore with disdain in her eyes, then set her eyes on Su Jinli and snorted coldly, "Are you Su Jinli?"
Su Jinli was unhappy, but she remained polite and said with a smile, "That's right. I wonder why the princess came here today?"
The princess walked up to Su Jinli, looked her up and down, and said, "Hmph, nothing more than that. I came here today to tell you to stay away from Jiang Yan. Jiang Yan is the one I like. Why do you, a daughter of the prime minister, want to keep him so hostile?"
Su Jinli was both angry and amused when she heard this. She looked at the princess and said fearlessly, "Princess, Jiang Yan is my husband, and we have a deep bond. I'm afraid it's inappropriate for you to say that."
The princess's face changed, and she angrily said, "How dare you refute me? There is no one I cannot get who I like. If you know what's good for you, you should divorce Jiang Yan immediately, otherwise, you will suffer the consequences!"
Su Jinli sneered inwardly. This princess was truly arrogant and willful, irrational. She looked directly into the princess's eyes and said, "Princess, please go back. Jiang Yan and I are deeply in love and will not be separated. If you insist on doing this, I'm afraid you'll only bring trouble upon yourself."
The princess was so angry that she was shaking all over. She pointed at Su Jinli's nose and shouted, "You are so good, Su Jinli, how dare you speak to me like that! Just wait, I will not give up!" After that, she turned around and left angrily.
Su Jinli looked at the princess's departing back and shook her head helplessly. She knew that the princess would not give up easily, and the days ahead would probably be more turbulent.
In the evening, Jiang Yan came back from court and saw Su Jinli sitting in the yard with a worried look on her face. He walked over and asked with concern, "Jinli, what's wrong with you? Did something happen?"
Su Jinli told Jiang Yan about the princess's trouble today. Jiang Yan frowned and said, "This princess is too much. Jinli, don't worry, I'm here and won't let her hurt you."
Su Jinli looked at Jiang Yan and said, "I'm not afraid of her, but I think she's being so unreasonable and might cause us a lot of trouble."
Jiang Yan held Su Jinli's hand and comforted her, "It's okay. At worst, I can go to the palace and report this to the emperor. The emperor will definitely uphold justice."
Su Jinli nodded and said, "I hope she can stop and stop pestering me."
However, things did not go as they wished. A few days later, Su Jinli went out with her maid to attend an event at the poetry club. As soon as she reached the door, she saw the princess with a group of servants blocking her way.
The princess looked at Su Jinli proudly and said, "Su Jinli, you still want to leave? Today, I will let you know the consequences of going against me!"
Su Jinli was furious. She looked at the princess and said coldly, "Princess, what do you want? In broad daylight, you dare to bring people to block the road. Aren't you afraid of the law?"
The princess laughed disdainfully and said, "The law? In my place, I am the law! Today, you must agree to divorce Jiang Yan, otherwise, don't even think about leaving here!"
The maidservant beside Su Jinli turned pale with fear and clung to the corner of Su Jinli's clothes tightly. Su Jinli patted the maidservant's hand, signaling her not to be afraid. She looked at the princess and said firmly: "Princess, I say again, I will not divorce Jiang Yan. If you continue to be so unreasonable, I will not be polite!"
The princess was furious when she heard this. She waved her hand and the servants behind her rushed forward. Su Jinli secretly groaned inwardly. Although she was not afraid of the princess, the other party was outnumbered and powerful, and she and her maid would probably have difficulty escaping.
Just then, the sound of horse hooves could be heard. Su Jinli and the princess turned to see Jiang Yan on horseback, hurriedly approaching with several guards. Jiang Yan's face instantly turned grim as he saw the scene before him. He quickly dismounted, striding in front of Su Jinli, shielding her behind him. His gaze, like a sharp blade, pierced the princess, and he said coldly, "Princess, what do you mean by this? In broad daylight, you dared to lead people to intercept my wife? Have you thrown all the rules of the palace to the wind?"
When the princess saw Jiang Yan appear, she was stunned for a moment, then a trace of panic flashed across her face, but she quickly regained her arrogant expression and snorted, "Jiang Yan, stay out of my business! Today I want Su Jinli to give an explanation. Why does she occupy you so much?"
Jiang Yan frowned and said seriously, "Princess, please respect yourself! Jinli is my legitimate wife. We are in love and I will not tolerate any interference from others. Your behavior is truly beneath your dignity."
The princess stamped her feet in anger and screamed, "I don't care! I have admired you for a long time. As long as she leaves you, I can give her any compensation!"
Su Jinli poked her head out from behind Jiang Yan and said disdainfully, "Princess, how can matters of the heart be measured by compensation? You are taking advantage of me like this, and you will only be looked down upon."
