Chapter 144 A Friend Makes a Move to Win Back His Wife

That's just how it is.

Mo Bei sighed and downed the wine in front of him in one gulp.

Sitting opposite him was General Liu, a colleague who fought alongside him on the battlefield and also a close friend despite their age difference.

The two men developed a deep mutual respect on the battlefield, sharing everything and becoming sworn brothers who could entrust their backs to each other.

General Liu's mother was none other than the old lady of the Liu family. Therefore, he returned this time to bring his mother back to the capital. So the two traveled together, thinking that they would be going the same way back to the capital. They planned to set off together on a chosen day. Unexpectedly, Mo Bei encountered difficulties.

General Liu thought for a moment and said, "When I was pursuing my wife, I used every means at my disposal! Why don't you try pursuing her again?"

Mo Bei was taken aback. Pursue her again? They were already engaged!

Seeing that Mo Bei did not understand, General Liu patted Mo Bei on the shoulder and said, "You two have been separated for so long, it is inevitable that you will feel awkward when you meet again. She may have too many concerns, whether it is about her identity, status, or age. So you must show your sincerity again to move her, so that she can continue to stay by your side without being affected by these worldly things."

Mo Bei was greatly enlightened and immediately asked, "Brother Liu, tell me, how should I pursue her again?"

General Liu laughed heartily and said, "I do have one or two techniques I can tell you, but most women have different temperaments, so you shouldn't just apply them blindly."

Mo Bei nodded naturally: "I would be grateful if Brother Liu would be so kind as to offer his guidance!"

Mo Bei appeared to be fully receptive to the lesson. After all, he had no experience in pursuing women, and his relationship with Rou Niang had progressed naturally and effortlessly over time. To be frank, he had to thank Da Ni for the aphrodisiac she had given them, which led to their significant progress.

But if he were to genuinely pursue her again, the two would already be familiar with each other and have been intimate. He wouldn't know how to adjust his mindset and start over from scratch.

Therefore, he couldn't quite understand Rou Niang's current state of mind, but he was willing to give Rou Niang a sense of security, so he thought of trying it again according to General Liu's method.

General Liu reminisced, saying, "I fell in love with my wife at first sight, and then fell in love again at second sight. But she seemed indifferent when she first saw me. So I thought about how to get closer to her. My first move was to get close to the people around her."

I first got to know my wife's brother, who was also my brother-in-law, and used him to successfully enter her family. Then I ingratiated myself with my in-laws and got people around my wife to speak well of me. This gave her a very good initial impression of me.

General Liu paused for a moment, seemingly lost in memories, and then smiled unconsciously.

Mo Bei asked anxiously, "And then?"

General Liu was displeased that Mo Bei had interrupted his pleasant reminiscence. He glared at Mo Bei angrily and said, "That's all for today. I'm going back to be with my mother. I'll tell you the rest after you've used this trick of mine."

Mo Bei touched his nose, watching General Liu walk away, speechless.

After thinking for a moment, he quickly got up. Of the people around Rou Niang, his first thought was her children, who should be easy to bribe. Who else could he think of? Oh, right, Rou Niang also had two good sisters, Lady Liu and Lady Zhang. He would have to put in some effort to win them over.

Li Rouniang was dejected after rejecting Mo Bei and listlessly sat in the pastry shop.

Madam Zhang came in, smiling, and said, "Congratulations! Congratulations on your family reunion! Oh, you don't look well last night!"

Zhang Niangzi said jokingly with a smile.

"Stop teasing Rou Niang," said Liu Niangzi, and the two of them laughed heartily.

Li Rou Niang looked at them with a worried expression. Seeing that her expression was far from sweet, they asked with concern, "What's wrong, Rou Niang? You don't seem happy."

Li Rouniang said, "I refuse to return to the capital with Mo Bei today."

"What?" Madam Zhang was very surprised. She said, "Rou Niang, don't be foolish. Why are you refusing?"

Madam Liu remained silent, seemingly understanding. Li Rou Niang had voiced her concerns: she and Mo Bei were three years apart in age—not that she was three years younger than Mo Bei, but rather that she was three years older.

Secondly, the two are too different in status and position. Thirdly, she has no family background and is divorced, so it is difficult for her to be worthy of Mo Bei.

Liu Niangzi fell even more silent after hearing Li Rouniang's words. In fact, she had been worried about these issues yesterday as well.

But Madam Zhang disagreed: "If there are lovers, what do these things matter! If there is no love, even if these problems don't exist, he will still find some problems for you. I think you shouldn't worry unnecessarily. You can tell him your concerns and see what he does."

Li Rouniang lowered her head. It wasn't that she didn't want to speak up, but men and women think differently. Mo Bei might not care now, but what about later? She didn't have the courage to gamble on the future.

Madam Zhang sighed and said, "Your temperament is not good. You keep everything to yourself. If you suffer any grievances when you return to the capital, don't let it bother you. Why not stay here instead of going to the capital? You and I, as sisters, can chat and laugh together. Life is quite pleasant that way."

Lady Liu smiled and said, "That makes sense. If you feel that being with him is more stressful than enjoyable, then you might as well stay."

Li Rouniang sighed; she didn't know what to do either. Meanwhile, Mo Bei first went to the yamen to find Zhang San. Zhang San was trembling with fear, wondering why Mo Bei wanted to see him.
