"Young master, let's go back to this remote and impoverished place," Jinzi, the little follower, coaxed as he drove the carriage.
"If you say another word, you can go back by yourself," Qian Duobao said unhappily.
Jinzi immediately dared not say anything more.
When Qian Duobao returned home last time, he told his parents about meeting Zhao Erni at the restaurant.
Mr. and Mrs. Qian hoped that Qian Duobao would spend more time with Erni, since the master had said that Erni was Qian Duobao's lucky star and might bring him a lot of good fortune!
So when Qian Duobao said he wanted to go to Zhao Family Village to visit Zhao Erni, Master Zhao readily agreed.
But the premise was that no one was left out of the group. In addition to Qian Duobao's carriage, there were two other carriages following behind, along with more than 20 servants.
The procession was quite grand; from a distance, one might mistake it for the arrival of some important figure.
Qian Duobao first bought a lot of toys and snacks that children like to play with in the town. He also bought pretty little dresses for Erni and her sister. Oh, right, he also bought one for Erni's mother. He heard from his parents that Erni has a little sister named Sanni, so he bought her baby toys as well.
After buying everything, they took a horse-drawn carriage to Zhao Family Village. Villagers had already run to Zhao Youtian to say that important people had come to the village, with three horse-drawn carriages and many people.
Zhao Youtian was also startled, thinking that the county magistrate had come. He thought carefully that nothing had happened to him, and the village had been peaceful recently with no strangers visiting. So why had the county magistrate come?
Zhao Youtian politely asked the servant driving the carriage, "I don't know which distinguished guest has graced our Zhao Family Village with their presence. I apologize for not welcoming you properly. I am Zhao Youtian, the village chief. Please feel free to ask me anything."
Upon hearing this, Qian Duobao poked his head out of the carriage and said, "Hello, Chief Zhao, I'm here to visit Zhao Erni from your village. I'm Qian Duobao from town."
Zhao Youtian was initially taken aback when he saw that Qian Duobao was a child. Then, after hearing his self-introduction, he realized that the Qian family in town was the wealthy Qian family, and the young master of the Qian family was the young master.
How did such a valuable person end up in their village?
What if it gets bumped and broken? What if it gets damaged?
"Where is Zhao Erni?" Qian Duobao asked when Zhao Youtian remained silent.
Zhao Youtian snapped out of his thoughts and quickly said, "They're probably at the Mo family's right now. Shall I take you there?"
"No need to trouble the clan chief, I can go by myself," Qian Duobao said politely.
Then the servants drove the carriage in a grand procession toward the Mo family. For a time, many villagers who were eager to hear the news gathered around, all wanting to see which wealthy relative had come to visit the Mo family.
When Old Man Mo heard the knocking, he sensed that many people had come to the door and became nervous. He even gripped his hunting gear tightly before finally opening the door.
He looked at the servants warily and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
"Excuse me, is there anyone here named Zhao Erni?" the servant asked politely.
Hearing the commotion outside, Zhao Erni ran over and poked her head out. "I'm Zhao Erni. What do you want?"
"Erni, it's me. I've come to play with you." Upon hearing Zhao Erni's voice, Qian Duobao quickly jumped down from the carriage.
The two servants were so frightened that they rushed over to help him up. Luckily, he managed to catch him; if he had been seriously injured, they would have been in big trouble when they got back.
"Duobao, it's you! What brings you here? And you've brought so many people with you. Are they all your family?" Erni asked curiously.
“No, they are my servants, all raised by my father,” Qian Duobao said.
"Your dad is amazing! He can support so many people," Erni praised.
"That's right, my dad is a very capable person," Qian Duobao said proudly.
"Since you are Erni's friends, please come in and talk. However, not all of you can come in; my courtyard is too small."
Old Man Mo and the other man knew each other. Hearing him call Qian Duobao, he guessed that he was probably the young master of the Qian family that you mentioned.
"Then I'll trouble you, Grandpa Mo," Qian Duobao said politely. This won over Old Man Mo; he was truly a polite and well-behaved child.
Qian Duobao waved his hand, instructing his servants to move all the gifts he had brought into the courtyard, and then only allowed the two families to stay outside with the others.
After entering, he greeted everyone and then gave them gifts.
Then, somewhat apologetically, she said, "Grandpa Mo, Uncle Mo, I'm sorry, I didn't know Erni was here with you, so I didn't prepare any gifts for you."
"It's alright," Old Man Mo said with a smile, shaking his head.
"Mother, can I play with Duobao in the village?" Erni asked Li Rouniang.
Li Rouniang was naturally unwilling, but he had already promised Qian Duobao last time. This time, Qian Duobao brought so many gifts, so she couldn't refuse. She could only nod reluctantly and say, "Then you can't go too far. Be careful."
"Don't worry, Aunt Li, I'll take good care of Erni." The two then walked out hand in hand.
The villagers at the door also started discussing among themselves:
"I thought he was some relative from the capital of Old Master Mo's family, but I didn't expect him to be the young master of the Qian family."
"Look how handsome this young master is, I wonder what he ate to grow up like this."
"Don't even mention how good he is to Erni. I even let my dog play with Erni. Maybe he'll even get to know Young Master Qian."
What was said without malice may have been taken to heart by the listener.
Suddenly, families with children around Erni's age all had this idea.
Erni and Qian Duobao strolled around the village. Usually, the village children would ignore her when they saw her, but this time they all took the initiative to surround her.
"Erni, these are steamed buns made by my mom. They're so delicious. Do you want to try some?" Gouwa was the first to run over, holding a hot steamed bun in his hand.
"Erni, these are wild fruits that my dad picked on the mountain. They're so sweet!" Hu Zi ran over, not to be outdone.
Erni knew these two people and would usually greet them. After all, Erni used to do a lot of housework and didn't really get along with them.
Tiger and Dog would occasionally help Erni gather firewood, but the children were short-lived and would run off after a short while. After a while, Erni had no one to play with. This time, however, they all enthusiastically gathered around her.
Erni nodded happily and said, "Okay, thank you."
"Erni, who is this? Is he your friend?" Gouwa asked, remembering his mother's instructions.
"Oh, his name is Qian Duobao, he's my good friend. This is Gouwa, and this is Huzi, they're all from our village," Erni introduced them to the group.
"Hello, Duobao, I'm Gouwa." "Hello, I'm Huzi." The two children greeted Qian Duobao together, and Qian Duobao greeted them one by one in return.
With the two of them starting, more and more children from the village gathered around.
Qian Duobao frowned slightly, but seeing how happy Erni was, he couldn't help but feel happy too.
