After the two left, Li Rouniang and Mo Bei awkwardly emerged from behind the tree, both blushing furiously. They hadn't expected that the two people who had been there in broad daylight would actually...
Ugh, it's really upsetting to run into something like this so early in the morning!
"Ahem, ahem! Well, I didn't realize it was getting late. Let's head back," Mo Bei said awkwardly.
Li Rouniang nodded, and the two began to walk back.
"Mo Bei, do you think Wu Xiucai will pass the imperial examination?" Li Rou Niang asked with some worry, since Wu Xiucai had just said that if he passed the imperial examination, she would be in big trouble.
“He definitely won’t pass the high school entrance exam,” Mo Bei said with certainty.
"How can you be so sure? He passed the imperial examination and became a scholar, which shows he has some ability." It's just that his character isn't very good. Lady Li Rou added quietly.
"Rou Niang, the capital is a vast city, and there are countless scholars in the world. Someone like him definitely won't do," Mo Bei said, unable to say more to Rou Niang.
However, his words did not put Li Rouniang at ease; she remained worried.
She wasn't worried about herself; she was mainly worried about her three children. Given Wu Xiucai's inhuman nature, coupled with the hatred Zhao Dahua and the others harbored towards her, she imagined that she and her three children would suffer a terrible fate.
Thinking of this, she frowned with worry. When Mo Bei saw Li Rou Niang frown, he also felt a tightness in his chest for some reason.
So he thought for a moment and said, "How about I help you?"
"How can you help me?" Li Rouniang asked, puzzled.
“He needs travel expenses to go to the capital for the imperial examination. I’ll steal his travel expenses. He’s just a scholar, weak and helpless. Without travel expenses, let’s see how he gets to the capital for the examination,” Mo Bei said.
Li Rouniang stared intently at Mo Bei, who became somewhat nervous. He quickly explained, "Rouniang, don't look at me like that. I'm not a thief. I only said that because I wanted to help you. If you think it's inappropriate, I won't do it."
Mo Bei himself was unaware that he subconsciously didn't want to be seen as a bad person by Li Rongniang.
"Mo Bei, you've misunderstood. I was just wondering how you were so clever to come up with such a great idea."
Hearing Li Rouniang praise him, Mo Bei's face turned even redder, but he was secretly delighted.
"Then I'll go now."
"Not now. It would be best to get him out of our town so that we won't be suspected." Li Rouniang felt that would be the safest option.
Mo Bei nodded and was about to walk out of the village when Li Rouniang grabbed him and asked, "Where are you going? Aren't you going home for breakfast?"
Mo Bei froze, feeling Li Rouniang's hand gripping his arm. His heart suddenly raced for no apparent reason.
He stammered, "I...I'm not eating anymore. You...you tell my dad that I need to go with him to the outskirts of town now before I start. Wait for my good news."
After saying that, he hurriedly ran out of the village.
Li Rouniang watched Mo Bei run out, bewildered and somewhat helpless. She could only return to the Mo family home and explain the situation to Old Man Mo.
Old Man Mo wasn't worried about Mo Bei, after all, he knew his son's martial arts skills. He was just a little surprised that his silly son was so concerned about Li Rou Niang's matter.
It's just a pity that Rou Niang was already a married woman. Alas, it was destined that their relationship would not end well.
"Uncle Mo, are you blaming me for not stopping Mo Bei?" Li Rou Niang asked somewhat nervously when she saw Old Man Mo sigh.
"It's alright, let the child go if he wants to," Old Man Mo waved his hand.
He learned from Erni and Dani that Zhao Dayou was no good, but he didn't want his son to break up someone else's family.
So he didn't bring it up with Li Rou Niang, thinking that perhaps his silly son didn't realize his feelings either!
Li Rouniang stayed at the Mo family's house until evening as usual, and then took the children home. However, she hadn't seen Mo Bei return all day, and she was actually quite uneasy. She was afraid that something might have happened to Mo Bei this time, and what would she do then?
What will happen to the Mo family, with their old and young members?
She felt she should have stopped Mo Bei that morning; how could she have let him run away so hastily? Now where is she going to find him?
If something happens to Mo Bei, how can I compensate Old Man Mo for having a son?
She couldn't sleep at night because of it.
Just then, she heard someone calling outside the window: "Rou Niang, Rou Niang."
Li Rouniang's alarm rang loudly. She quietly got up, picked up a stick, and thought that perhaps some lecherous man from the village had come to her house in the middle of the night.
She was prepared to hit the other person with a stick as soon as she opened the door, to let them know she wasn't someone to be trifled with!
So she quietly opened the door, didn't even look, and swung the stick at her!
Mo Bei didn't expect Li Rou Niang to hit him with a stick. Caught off guard, he was hit squarely and cried out, "Ouch!"
Only then did Li Rouniang realize that the person who had come was Mo Bei, and she hurriedly threw the stick at him:
"Mo Bei, it's you? It's so late. Are you alright? Did I hit you too hard? Did I hurt you?"
Mo Bei waved his hand and said, "It's nothing, I'm as tough as nails, it doesn't hurt at all. It was my fault for calling you out in the middle of the night. I mainly wanted to tell you some good news: Wu Yong won't be able to take the exam."
"Oh? How did you do it?" Li Rouniang asked curiously.
“I followed them out of town. They rented an inn, and in the middle of the night, while Wu Yong was asleep, I took all his travel money back, and it’s all here.”
