"If it really doesn't work out, sister, you should quit, lest Manager Fan find something else to pin on you," Dahe advised, frowning after hearing Xiuer's story.
Erhe nodded in agreement, and Old Man Mo also agreed.
Li Rouniang shook her head and said, "Actually, I wasn't just there to do odd jobs and earn this little bit of income. Another reason was to learn some of their cooking skills."
I've been observing Liu Niangzi in the kitchen these past few days, and her pastries are truly amazing. I'm thinking of learning from her. You know I used to sell pastries back in Zhao Family Village, but when I got here, I realized my mother's pastries weren't up to par; theirs are much more refined. So I want to learn from her.
After all, I have this foundation, so I'm sure I'll learn something new soon. I still want to start selling myself right away.
After hearing Li Rouniang's plan, the others stopped trying to persuade her.
"I was originally thinking of asking Brother Li to help you arrange another one, but since you said so, let's forget about it," Erhe said.
What was said in jest was taken seriously by the listener. Hearing Erhe's intimate dependence on Li Si, Li Rouniang corrected him, saying, "Li Si and I were just good friends when we were children, and we haven't seen each other for more than ten years. He helped us out of consideration for our past friendship, but we can't rely on him for everything."
Erhe wanted to say, "Isn't it going to happen sooner or later for you two? Why do you have to be so clear about it?" But Dahe gave him a look, and he didn't say anything more. After all, his older brother had only talked to him privately about Li Rouniang and Li Si after they got home.
Old Man Mo didn't know what to say, since it was awkward for him to say anything more or less. But Erni suddenly blurted out, "Mom, when will Dad come to see us?"
Li Rouniang was taken aback, and everyone fell silent, their eyes filled with undisguised sorrow. This was the reason why Erni asked that question.
It was because after she called him "uncle" once that day, she kept asking Da Ni about it. Da Ni then told her the reason. Although she didn't quite understand the intricacies of the situation, she vaguely sensed that it seemed to be about tying her mother and Li Si together.
Wait a minute! Shouldn't Mother be with Father? In her heart, Mo Bei is her father, and Erni firmly believes that Father is so capable, he will definitely find them; it's just a matter of time.
Therefore, she didn't want her mother to have anything to do with Li Si. After all, what would happen if her father came back one day?
“Your father will definitely find us. Think about it, it took us so long to get here from our old village. He'll have to ask around the whole way, and it will definitely take him even longer to find us. But it doesn't matter, your mother will wait until your father finds us,” Li Rou Niang said firmly. She seemed to be speaking to Er Ni, but also to everyone present!
Erni nodded emphatically: "Erni will go with Mother."
Old Man Mo sighed but didn't say anything. He wanted to find some time to talk to Li Rou Niang, but his own emotions were quite complicated at the moment, so he wanted to calm himself down before talking to her.
If Rou Niang is so young and truly has no fate with Mo Bei, then he hopes that Rou Niang will find a good home in the future.
After all, he now treats Li Rouniang like his own daughter.
The next day, Xiuer and Li Si left for the noodle shop. Everything went smoothly, so let's leave that aside for now.
After Li Rouniang went to work, Manager Fan didn't make things too difficult for her, since what she did yesterday was too obvious.
Li Rouniang continued to do her work dutifully, and when there was no work, she would try to find something to do. Of course, she would intentionally or unintentionally approach Liu Niangzi, who made pastries, and lend her a hand. No matter what it was, she would happily help.
This made Liu Niangzi feel a little embarrassed.
In the afternoon, Manager Fan took the day off, apparently saying she had some family matters to attend to. From the chatter in the kitchen, it seemed her son had started causing trouble again, so she went home.
To be honest, Steward Fan's son is a good-for-nothing. He's been a bad kid since he was little, ended up in jail a few times, got out with a broken leg, and lost his wife. He spends his days idly, either getting drunk and causing trouble or gambling. He's sold off everything in the house that he can. Even though Steward Fan works in the kitchen and earns a little money each month, it's not enough to pay off his son's gambling debts. He's really done something terrible.
Hearing this, Li Rouniang felt some sympathy for Steward Fan, but Steward Fan was narrow-minded and couldn't distinguish right from wrong. There must be something hateful about a pitiful person.
"Madam Liu, this pastry you made is really good. What's it called?" Li Rou Niang asked.
"This doesn't have a name. This is something I just came up with. Old Madam Liu likes to eat snacks, but I don't dare to give her anything too sweet, so I researched some soft, easy-to-digest, and not too sweet snacks for her."
Lady Liu's actions were truly heartfelt.
"You're amazing! You can even make your own desserts!" Li Rouniang said admiringly.
"I see you have some interest in making pastries. If you have time, you can take a look and do some research when you get home if you're interested." Madam Liu wasn't a stingy person, and she didn't hide anything from others.
She wouldn't stop Li Rou Niang from observing more, but of course, it was impossible for her to pass on all her skills for making a living to Li Rou Niang.
Li Rouniang didn't ask for anything else, just wanted to learn more. She hadn't intended to compete with Liu Niangzi for this job.
"Then thank you very much, Madam Liu. Please don't bother me," Li Rouniang said politely.
