"Sister Zhao, wait for me!" As soon as Granny Zhao left the Wu residence, she heard someone calling from behind. Turning around, she saw none other than the nanny who served Qian Ruyi. Although Granny Zhao didn't know her surname, she knew that she was not an ordinary servant, as she had just been by Qian Ruyi's side. Her guess was correct; this person was Granny Gu, Qian Ruyi's wet nurse.
Then Granny Gu said in a feigned friendly tone, "Young lady, we seem to have hit it off right away. Let me see you off."
Old Lady Zhao had no idea what the person in front of her was up to, so she had no choice but to follow her obediently. As she listened to Granny Gu say, "You know, wealthy families are quite particular. They even have a custom of the 'three-day homecoming.' Tomorrow is the day our young lady returns home. Our master and mistress will have to entertain her properly then. Oh dear, people's energy is limited at that time, and they probably won't be able to care about anything else."
Old Lady Zhao didn't react for a moment. Seeing Old Lady Zhao staring blankly at her, the old woman cursed inwardly: "Fool!"
But with a forced smile on her face, she continued, "Look at these little kids, they're so lively and active. There are so many people around, what if they get lost? Right, little sister?"
The words were quite blunt, and Granny Zhao immediately understood. She nodded and said, "I understand. I'll go and lure that young master Qian out tomorrow."
"What are you saying? I didn't say anything! Alright, that's enough. Take care, young lady." Granny Gu waved to Granny Zhao after speaking, then turned and walked back.
Old Lady Zhao cursed inwardly at how these wealthy people always spoke in such roundabout ways.
As she walked home, she pondered how to get the young master out the next day and what to do.
Just then, a man approached them. It was none other than Zhao Mazi from the village.
This Zhao Mazi steals chickens and dogs in the village, and also does some shady business outside.
He's just a petty hoodlum at best, barely making ends meet, and at this age he hasn't even managed to find a wife.
However, he was good friends with Zhao Pozi's second son, Zhao Eryou. When he saw Zhao Pozi, he happily went up to greet her: "Auntie, are you going to town? If you have any profitable business opportunities in the future, remember your nephew."
Just when Zhao Pozi was feeling sleepy, someone offered her a pillow. She was worried, and that's when she ran into Zhao Mazi.
Her eyes lit up, and she quickly grabbed Zhao Mazi, saying, "I actually have a profitable business opportunity. I wonder if you dare to take it?"
Zhao Mazi was just being polite, but Zhao Pozi took it seriously. However, since it was a way to make money, he naturally wouldn't refuse.
So he asked, "What kind of business?"
“I want to sell a child, the farther the better,” Granny Zhao said.
"You're not going to sell your granddaughter, are you? This?" Zhang Mazi hesitated.
After all, he lives in the same village. If people find out, how can he stay there in the future?
As the saying goes, "a rabbit doesn't eat the grass near its burrow," so he would never kidnap or sell children in Zhao Family Village.
"What are you thinking? He's a friend's grandson. I'm just asking if you want him. If you do, all the money is yours," Granny Zhao said through gritted teeth.
He really went all out for those fifty taels.
Upon hearing that such a good thing was possible, Zhao Mazi nodded and said, "That's great, of course. When can I inspect the goods?"
"Tomorrow, around noon, where do you think I'll meet you with the child?"
"Let's go to the Hundred Flowers Pavilion. I'll arrange to meet everyone there, cash on delivery. Afterwards, I can have some fun there," Zhang Mazi said with a grin. He figured his pockmarked face wouldn't bother the girls, so he figured he wouldn't be disgusted by their presence!
He didn't care at all whether that old woman Zhao was really his friend's grandson or something else; he just wanted to make money as long as he could, and he'd live day by day.
Just get by, being happy is the most important thing.
Granny Zhao nodded without saying much, and the two considered it an agreement.
However, man proposes, God disposes. Just as the two were about to part, the old woman with sharp eyes spotted a corner of red behind the tree.
She quickly asked, "Who's there?"
Realizing she had been exposed, Zhao Erni immediately turned and ran. Zhao Pozi hurriedly said to Ma Zi, "Quick, catch him!"
Zhao Mazi was also afraid that things would be exposed, so he rushed forward. Although Erni was considered agile for her age, who could withstand two adults? She was quickly pinned down.
"Aunt Zhao, what should we do?" When Zhao Mazi saw that it was actually Zhao Pozi's granddaughter, he was at a loss. He thought that he might as well just let it go. Anyway, no one would believe what a child said. As long as he didn't do it and there was no substantial evidence, what could anyone do to him?
But he didn't know that Granny Zhao had no choice but to do this.
Granny Zhao gritted her teeth and said resolutely, "Why don't you deal with her first? Or you can lock her up and deal with both of them tomorrow."
After finishing her sentence, Granny Zhao turned and left without looking at Erni again.
Zhao Mazi thought to himself: This old woman is really heartless.
Looking down at Zhao Erni, who was struggling, she said helplessly, "You're just unlucky!" With that, she knocked Erni unconscious, stuffed her into a sack, and carried her into town.
Li Rouniang didn't realize Erni was missing until it got dark, and she immediately started asking around the village.
Recently, there aren't many children in the village who play with Erni.
Tiger and Dog would occasionally sneak a bird egg or a cooked potato to Erni, but they didn't dare to openly play with her.
Tiger told Li Rouniang that he saw Erni go to the village entrance.
