Chapter 224 Min Rong's Plans
After leaving Songhetang, Min Changzhong went to the study in the outer courtyard.
Since Min Rong wasn't there, he waited in the study.
Min Yuexi also received the news that Min Changzhong hadn't gone to the academy early in the morning, but instead went to Songhe Hall. She had been worried for a while. Just as she was thinking about whether she should go and check on him, she heard that Min Changzhong had already left Songhe Hall and gone to the outer courtyard study.
Min Yuexi didn't know what had happened either; she only knew that her father had spoken to her eldest brother the previous night. She had no idea what they had discussed.
Ever since she argued with her father at Songhetang for her grandmother, her father has not trusted her as much as before.
Gradually, there were some things I stopped letting her know.
Not knowing what had happened, she had no choice but to have someone keep a close watch on the outer study.
As evening fell, Min Rong returned from his official duties and was told at the door that Min Changzhong had been waiting for him in the outer study all day.
Min Rong smiled, went back to the main courtyard to change his clothes, and then went to the outer study to see Min Changzhong.
"So, has your grandmother agreed to help you?"
Upon seeing her son, whose eyes were downcast, shoulders slumped, and expression was dejected, Min Rong immediately asked a heart-wrenching question.
Min Changzhong shook his head, then looked up at Min Rong with a determined gaze, "Father is right, Grandmother is not surnamed Min after all, and she is not of the same mind as us!"
Min Rong nodded in satisfaction, "Good to know. The Xuanping Marquis's mansion will still have to rely on us, father and son, to carry it on in the future."
"Yes. Your son will obey your orders, Father." Min Changzhong solemnly replied.
Min Rong was even more pleased with his son's attitude and said with a smile, "Don't worry, I would never harm you. My choice of Miss Wu, the seventh daughter of the Wu family, for your marriage is a well-thought-out decision."
Min Changzhong adopted a respectful listening posture.
Seeing this, Min Rong became even more satisfied and explained seriously, "First, naturally, is to ease the relationship with the Crown Prince."
"Secondly, although Miss Wu is born out of wedlock, she is a rare and wonderful girl. I had someone inquire about her carefully, and she is indeed a virtuous and kind lady, as well as an excellent housekeeper."
"The Wu family has three branches. The eldest branch produced a crown princess, so naturally they are very prestigious."
"The third branch of the Wu family produced a woman named Liu, who loved to take advantage of others, and was protected by Old Mrs. Wu, who favored her youngest son. Her notoriety spread far and wide."
"The second branch of the Wu family, seemingly the least valued and unknown, is actually the one that lives the most enlightened life."
"That Miss Wu Qi is from the second branch of the family, and as a concubine's daughter, she manages the affairs of the second branch of the family very well."
Min Changzhong was surprised. "So, the second branch of the Wu family and the seventh young lady of the Wu family are not bad."
Min Rong nodded, "Otherwise, I wouldn't have risked being scorned by others to let you marry Miss Wu Qi."
“I’m mainly looking at Miss Wu Qi herself!” Min Rong said with a hint of pride.
He could appease the Crown Prince and the Wu family's anger towards him, and also marry a capable daughter-in-law. Why not?
Thinking of this, Min Rong continued, "After you marry her, you will hand over the management of the Marquis's mansion to her."
"At that time, I will submit another memorial to request that a heir be established for you, and Miss Wu will be the wife of the heir of the Marquis of Xuanping's mansion."
"I think that by then, the Crown Prince and the Wu family will be able to see the sincerity of our Xuanping Marquis's Mansion and completely turn hostility into friendship with us."
"Perhaps we can use this opportunity to climb up the Crown Prince's pedestal."
Min Changzhong agreed, replying, "Father is right. However, Miss Wu Qi started managing the household as soon as she entered the family, what about the younger sister…?"
Min Rong raised her hand to interrupt Min Changzhong, saying, "Your younger sister is wholeheartedly devoted to your grandmother and is not on our side."
"Once Miss Wu enters the family, I will find a marriage for your younger sister and marry her off."
Min Changzhong was startled. "Didn't Father just praise my sister for being intelligent and good at managing the household? How come..."
How long has it been?
Was the father's change in attitude towards his younger sister a little too sudden?
Or perhaps the younger sister did something to anger her father?
"You're still young, and there are some things I can't explain to you too clearly right now. Just know that the only people who will wholeheartedly protect the Xuanping Marquis's mansion are my father and me, and only my father and me. Your grandmother, your younger sister, and even your mother are all untrustworthy!"
"Yes, son will obey his father in everything!"
Seeing Min Rong's solemn words, Min Changzhong also quickly expressed his loyalty.
"Alright, I'll have someone go to the Wu family to act as matchmaker in the next few days. You can just wait patiently for the wedding to take place."
Min Changzhong nodded, then hesitated for a moment, as if thinking of something, before saying, "Father, I have a favor to ask."
The son was obedient, and Min Rong was also very good-natured. "Tell me about it."
Min Changzhong gritted his teeth and said, "My son has a woman he likes. He was planning to pass the imperial examination next year so that he could tell his father and marry her."
"Now that Father has chosen a good wife for his son, the son dares not disobey. He only begs Father to allow him to take her as a concubine after he marries his wife."
Min Rong waved his hand dismissively: "What's so difficult about that? After Madam Wu enters the family, it won't be a big deal to take in one concubine, or even three or five."
"Thank you so much, Father!" Min Changzhong was overjoyed.
***
Soon, the conversation between the father and son reached Min Yuexi's ears.
There was no one else in the study when the two were talking. But he couldn't resist Min Yuexi's tactic of bribing people with money.
The steward may not have many other advantages, but he makes it easy to spend money and win people's hearts.
The servant in charge of serving tea and water in the outer courtyard, after delivering the tea to the study, quietly went to eavesdrop by the window at the back of the study.
Upon hearing the news, he immediately forwarded it to Min Yuexi.
Upon learning that her father was going to marry a capable sister-in-law to manage the household and that she was also going to marry him off, Min Yuexi felt a surge of emotions.
There was anger, indignation, sadness and grief, but mostly there was helplessness and disheartening.
This is her father!
Just because she argued with him once for her grandmother, he was able to abandon her without hesitation!
It's easy to imagine how much he resented his grandmother in his past life!
No, in this lifetime, his resentment towards his grandmother has probably been deeply ingrained in his bones!
He just hasn't shown it yet.
How could she forget how ruthless and adept at deception her father was!
He abandoned the He family mother and daughter who brought him wealth without hesitation, and now he doesn't even mention them once, as if they never existed.
If she hadn't kept her promise and taken good care of that mother and daughter, they probably would have died without Min Rong even bothering to inquire about them.
Min Yuexi paced back and forth for a while before calling out, "Yu Hua."
"Yes, sir." The personal maidservant hurriedly entered the room.
"Have someone check if Miss Weijia is free. If she is, ask her to come over. Tell her I would like to discuss with her the arrangements for attending the banquet at the Yongning Marquis's residence."
Min Yuexi found herself a perfectly legitimate excuse.
